  1. When Belinda Carlisle climbed from 28 to 14 in 1989 with leave A Light On that is when I didn't stop listening to the top 40 every week for 15 years.
  2. Get Up, This Beat Is Technotronic & Rockin Over The Beat were much better the latter being my fave of their songs. I would like to pose a question re Black Box if Ride On Time had not been re-recorded by Heather Small do we think it would still have reached 1 million copies, did people buy both and inflate the sales or did in fact the remix put some people off like me and had the original stuck around in the shops it may have sold more? The remix and the hype over the vocals certainly put it into people's minds so maybe a factor of all the above inflated sales and maybe it would have done slightly less had it not had the negative coverage.
  3. Interesting how huge Harry Styles song is on the American and Canadian i-tunes but the rest of the world not quite as enthusiastic to get it to no.1, clearly it has been targeted for the Atlantic side of the world.
  4. How on earth can you not tell the difference it is totally obvious by the way Loletta Holloway interview on Youtube love the last comment she makes and her facial expression over the settlement making her views clear.
  5. Ride on Time but only Loletta vocals I have always hated Heather Small's version so much so I remember age 14 going around with my parents to every record shop trying to get the original and only the remix was on the shelves.
  6. It's not a patch on Niall Horan's fantastic new song, Harry doing a sordid version of Kylie's All The Lovers video won't sell more records its not the 90s anymore.
  7. Most Christmas songs have gone to number 1 on a chart dated in January the official chart was always dated the Saturday after the Sunday chart was announced so why is this an issue now?
  8. People complaining about Christmas songs in the chart but no one is complaining that Spotify rig the bloody thing by putting in playlists
  9. Because the chart is based on what was bought/listened to the previous 7 days not what people are listening to after the chart is broadcast it has never been about now or next week in its 60 odd years.
  10. How would this explain the big interest in Shakin Stevens and Kylie this year and the continued interest in Chris Rea and The Pogues if they are dropping here but increasing over there?
  11. If someone goes "Alexa play Santa Tell Me" does it count anywhere as a play towards the charts, or if someone goes "play Christmas songs" do they count towards any charts?
  12. Such a shame Wham! were kept off the top spot last year by Ed Sheeran as I think they will never get that chance again.
  13. Indeed why would the OCC care it's a big event a song reaching No.1 24 years after release, no one is going to publicly mention that it's technically all fixed by where you are placed on spotify it will just be wow Mariah reaches No.1 finally just a shame it is so fixed other Christmas releases don't stand a chance of every getting to No.1 for first time as Mariah is now classed as the ultimate Christmas song in the western world.
  14. There isn't technically a US Spotify chart on the other section so I will just mention here Kylie Minogue Santa Baby making No.81 on it's first appearance in US spotify charts, especially well done to her considering there is also Adriane Grande version around as well as Eartha Kitt.
  15. The Pogues only 6th used to be guaranteed 3rd every year.
  16. The Kworb chart shows Shaky and Kylie debuting in the top 200 for first time this year. I think 130 is good for Kylie with Santa Baby considering it's the first time it has entered the US chart and there are numerous versions. I assume it has no video as it never gets played on uk tv channels.
  17. Interesting the drop in spotify fortunes for Slade and Wizzard are we seeing a removal of 70s hits to make way for the newer songs? Wizzard peak in previous years was 8 this year it was 28 on Christmas Eve. Also Shaky hasn't made the top 10 this year usually he creaps into top 10. Not sure what the Brenda Lee thing is about I haven't heard it once this year and as there is no vid it doesn't get tv exposure. It's a shame Greg Lake is doing worse every year a great classic that is drifting away.
  18. Shakin Stevens in the US Spotify top 200 who ever would have thought old Shaky would make the US charts I know it's all playlist position orientated but the Americans hearing songs we been listening to for years who must think they are new.
  19. I haven't really taken notice of anything in the charts since about last October but I had a look at kworb today and is pop music actually making a return? George Ezra, Years & Years, Keala Settle, Anne-Marie etc it seems to me maybe pop is coming back. I thought George Ezra would be a one album wonder but he has suddenly become popular again and Years & Years seem to be getting popular again, are the charts from 4 or 5 years ago suddenly returning or is this just a phase?
  20. I could see Google being interested and linking it with Youtube, that could work.
  21. Spotify ripe for a takeover ? Apple clearly have no answer with i-tunes anymore, Deezer and the others can't get close, basically Spotify have the monopoly but still don't make a profit surely some company now will come along and gobble it up to make money from it?
  22. I know this is UK but I want to mention Band Aid reaching No.9 in US spotify, I never realised they liked this song so much The Pogues at No.62 think in a few years this song will finally get the credit it deserves in America, should have been a huge hit over there a long time ago, Chris Rea at No.64 think it's probably playlist related but it bodes well for future years. Astonishing figures will be interesting to see next year if this trend continues or if there becomes a year or so where people get a little tired of the same songs. Interesting how Earth Kitt trumped Kylie on the final day, last year they were neck and neck all December, this year Kylie was way ahead until Christmas Day.
  23. I listen to belinda Carlisle at No.28 then next week went up 14 places to no.14 then top 10 and 16 years of top 40 listening took over my sunday and life. The days when songs climbed and made you want to tune in next week.
  24. Shaky top 10 for the first time ever on Spotify
