  1. To be fair, I think 2017 was a vintage year for urban music in the charts - both quantity and quality (the quantity especially as the year went on) and the best since 2003. That's a lot to live up to.
  2. Yeah some of those aren't really urban (the Craig David song for example) but there is undeniably an urban domination going out right now. About time too - these kind of songs were always popular but people illegally downloaded them so it wasn't fully reflected in the charts. Even I admit that some of them are dull sounding - Jumanji and the new Hardy Caprio track spring to mind. Hopefully MoStack does well as that song has a bit of life to it. I do also think we are approaching peak saturation for these kinds of songs and in 6 months/a year they will have receded. Its a shame songs like Lock Doh, Addison Lee, Dun Talkin, Samantha, Unsigned, No Don etc. never made the Top 40 but I suppose they were trailblazers for artists like Ramz and B Young to do so well commercially now.
  3. Like Shining was?
  4. The more I hear it, the more I'm really liking the new MNEK single. Genuinely sounds fresh and different and given it's prominence on the new music playlists on Spotify maybe it could actually become a hit.

The spoken chorus has a similar flow to 'Forget About Dre' I've realised!

Early entry at #78 on Spotify and in the iTunes Top 40, solid start. I really like the instrumental on this, makes the song more lively than some of the other UK rap hits recently. Almost as good as 'Screw & Brew' last year.
  7. 2003 really was a classic year for music.
  8. zPKjFGe78eg After his song-stealing feature on 'Unforgettable', one of the biggest urban songs in years, I think this is Swae Lee's first mainstream leaning single since. Sounds decent on first listen, although not quite the knockout I was expecting. Shows plenty of potential though.

This new one is actually very good! Very MNEK, but with a fresh twist and I quite like the Funk/R&B vibe to it. Won't be a hit though.

uuf1DnA2vsU MoStack is back after a nine month break, and this will appeal to all those who enjoyed his features on 'No Words' and 'Bad' this winter. This is begging to be played during the warmer months ahead and I can see this doing well on Spotify.
  13. Of middling 'of-their-time' hits?
  14. Would rather he didn't stick Demi Lovato on the song, but we'll wait and see. Plenty of exciting R&B/Hip-Hop talent around without him resorting to pop stars.
  15. Good to see Post Malone on there and need to check out that Damian Marley/Ghetts remix! Removed Bruno Mars a bit early though?
  16. Been hearing this remix for a good few months now, decent!
  17. I think a lot of those comments are wishful thinking.

  19. I think Kojo Funds can do better than this, but it is good for the charts. More songs like Dun' Talkin please!
  20. Chorus sounds huge... festival ready (is he in the UK this summer?)
  21. Post Malone at #29 already! The chorus is so melodic that I wouldn't be surprised if this was another hit!
  22. A song cannot become an 'iconic bop' after a couple of hours.
  23. I echo this. Should sound good once the weather gets warmer though.
  24. I imagine they're all mates and they all appeal to similar audiences.
