R&B & Hip-Hop Recommendation Page
NSG ft. Not3s - Pushing Up 9lIoSHRqvkg There's been plenty of hype for this track, a collaboration between one of the hottest UK artists around and NSG - a group who had a big underground hit last year with 'Yo Darlin'. It doesn't disappoint, Not3s provides an uplifting chorus and the reaction has been strong as expected. Made small waves on Spotify already, so keep an eye out for this. Shakka ft. AlunaGeorge - Man Down Hxxss69tVY0 Shakka is back and this time he links up with AlunaGeorge for a surprise and welcome collaboration. Produced by Jae5 ('Did You See', 'Bouff Daddy'), this sounds like a song perfect for the early summer. Could see this getting playlisted by mainstream stations and doing well on Spotify given a push. Taya ft. Lotto Boyzz - Skin nQ1-OKP0CIM Liverpool singer Taya has been bubbling under for a while now, but this is her most mainstream effort yet. Teaming up with Lotto Boyzz, this is a typical Pop/R&B effort that almost sounds a little like Ariana Grande vocally.

RESULTS: Least Favourite Bruno Mars Single
e-fA-gBCkj0 LsoLEjrDogU 1. Locked Out of Heaven (21 votes) 2. Finesse (22 votes) 3. 24K Magic 4. Treasure 5. Just The Way You Are 6. Marry You 7. Grenade 8. That's What I Like 9. Versace on the Floor 10. It Will Rain 11. When I Was Your Man 12. Young Girls 13. Gorilla 14. The Lazy Song Well the final threw up a surprise result! All the way through I was expecting 'Finesse' to win this quite easily, but in the final I believe it's release date of six weeks ago counted against it. For what it's worth, I prefer 'Locked Out of Heaven' because it came out at a time when chart music was changing for the better - after years of David Guetta dance-pop had gone beyond stale, this stood out a mile. I associate with songs like 'Latch', 'Thrift Shop' and 'Suit & Tie' as the start of a massive improvement in chart hits (2013 was an excellent year). 'Finesse' is great too, the Cardi B remix bringing it to a new audience and it is undeniably one of the songs of the year so far. However, I think we had the right winner in this final. Thank You to all those who voted and participated!

I remember loving 'Amazing' when it came out! To be fair, it still sounds alright now too. Backstreet Boys and Blue are the more defining childhood boy bands for me... doesn't get more defining than 'I Want It That Way'.

Speaking for myself, I find the lyrics in a lot of Drake songs very relatable. Songs like 'Passionfruit', 'With You' and 'Take Care' in particular.

FIFA World Cup 2018 Soundtrack
Please no. I always associate 'Wavin Flag' with the 2010 World Cup, so hopefully this one will be as strong! Don't remember the 2014 one.

#ThrowbackThursday
'Always On Time' is such a bonafide classic, still sounds good to his day. Interesting to compare to the current songs by Mabel & Not3s - they are clearly influenced by songs like this! Never heard the Kelly Rowland song, but after listening to it here I have definitely heard it before... the City High song is very strong too.

Sean Paul & David Guetta ft. Becky G - Mad Love
I saw a great quote from a user here a few years ago describing a song as being 'as urban as pate on toast'. It applies so strongly here.

Final: Least Favourite Bruno Mars Single
UqyT8IEBkvY 3. 24K Magic (17 Votes) 4. Treasure 5. Just The Way You Are 6. Marry You 7. Grenade 8. That's What I Like 9. Versace on the Floor 10. It Will Rain 11. When I Was Your Man 12. Young Girls 13. Gorilla 14. The Lazy Song After a dramatic and closely fought semi-final, we ended up with a tie! Both 'Locked Out of Heaven' and '24K Magic' amassed 17 votes, even after an extension. I decided to use the previous rounds result as a tie-breaker, where '24K Magic' received double the amount of votes. Therefore, it has been cruelly eliminated just before the final. I remember there being a lot of hype over Bruno Mars' return in 2016 - his last record had been 'Uptown Funk', one of the biggest selling songs of all time. '24K Magic' isn't a massive departure from that, still funky as anything with perhaps a more hip-hop edge to it. It was no surprise to see this become very popular! Anyway, the final will close at midnight on Sunday - the deadline will be extended by a 12 hour period in the event of a tie.

New Sports & Fitness mod
Congratulations to Pete, a quick look around the Sports forum suggests the promotion of a frequent and insightful poster to the moderator team can only benefit the forum! Thanks to all for the opportunity to moderate the Sports Forum over the last few years - I've been feeling for a while like the forum could do with some fresh blood and ideas, especially during a World Cup year. I'm looking forward to seeing what the mods have planned for that! I'll still post in there as much as possible, lamenting the state of West Ham and in excitement of the tournament in Russia this summer. Good luck Pete.

R&B & Hip-Hop Recommendation Page
Here are this week's recommendations from the urban underground: Ms Banks - Come Thru thLCR9BLCTw Fresh from her hit remix of 'Yu Zimme' from Stylo G that drew attention from Nicki Minaj, London rapper Ms Banks has come through with this one. Already playlisted by the big urban stations, this is the perfection introduction to the artist for many. Slick raps and a slick beat, this reminds me of Stefflon Don. Recommended. H.E.R. - 2 WtCREZoiSQQ My favourite discovery this week - I cannot get enough of the beat on this! The vocals from R&B artist H.E.R. are really on point too and I will definetly be keeping an eye out for more of her music in the future. Reminds me of Jorja Smith on a track with more interesting production. Tom Misch ft. Loyle Carner - Water Baby llpAET-kqsc Both already firm festival favourites and considered 'cool' artists by the uni crowd, this is a song that belongs to the warmer months to come. Loyle Carner has been critically acclaimed for a while now and offers something different to the current crop of mainstream UK rap around right now. He does justice to a typically well-constructed Tom Misch instrumental.

nPvuNsRccVw 4. Treasure (13 Votes) 5. Just The Way You Are 6. Marry You 7. Grenade 8. That's What I Like 9. Versace on the Floor 10. It Will Rain 11. When I Was Your Man 12. Young Girls 13. Gorilla 14. The Lazy Song Close run thing, but 'Treasure' falls just short of the semi-final. A song that wouldn't sound out of place on his latest album, I actually really like this one! Partly for memories (this was on the radio the day I passed my driving test) and partly because this is classic Bruno Mars: a track that sounds both retro and modern. Relentlessly catchy, I am not surprised to see this one so high up. Votes for the semi-final close at midnight on Tuesday so get voting! Would be great if we could manage 40 votes...

Khalid - American Teen
Very good remix I agree, Jorja and Wretch both add something different to the track. I can understand why they've pushed 'Location' here again - it wasn't a hit at all I don't think, but the problem for me is that this is such a 2017 song I can't get too into it again.
