BBC Radio 1Xtra Playlist
Liking all the adds this week, 'La Puissance' was a bit of a discovery!

MHD & Major Lazer - Afro Trap Part 7 (La Puissance)
VhMW87avFIM Please please can this be the next foreign-language hit? French rapper MHD released the original of 'La Puissance', which translates as 'the power' last year and has been viewed 135m times on YouTube. Last week Major Lazer remixed the song and it is arguably the best thing they have attached themselves to in ages... Been on repeat since I first heard it and 1Xtra added it today to their playlist. I think I prefer this to all the Latin music that has been in the charts, but what does everyone else think?

The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar - Pray For Me
First song this reminded me of was Starboy! Very good on first listens.

Spotify Chart Thread 2018 [I]
It was #1 I think! On all the major urban playlists too quite high up.

ASAP Ferg ft. Nicki Minaj - Plain Jane (Remix)
I totally agree that the original is my preferred track, and agree that the inclusion of Nicki Minaj has given this a boost on radio and replies here.

Round 9: Least Favourite Bruno Mars Single
SR6iYWJxHqs 7. Grenade (10 Votes) 8. That's What I Like 9. Versace on the Floor 10. It Will Rain 11. When I Was Your Man 12. Young Girls 13. Gorilla 14. The Lazy Song Having not heard this for years, listening now I found myself knowing all the lyrics to this, One of those songs that takes you back to a specific time period - 'Grenade' being very illustrative of early 2011. Perhaps this is a sign also that the song has not particularly aged well either, but I imagine it is recognisable to anyone who listened to a radio or watched music channels at the start of the decade. Nice song, bit annoying and earnest (a theme in his music) and about the right time for it to depart. Gonna speed things up a bit now, so you have just under 48 hours to vote!

Kojo Funds ft. RAYE - Check
It sounds like a similar set-up to 'Fine Line' but slightly slower and with Latin influences. Not surprised it's been playlisted by Capital - it's a clear attempt to get into the charts.
-
Iggy Azalea - Savior (Feat. Quavo)
Surely she is done, regardless of the strength of the song.

Which of course some people disagree, thinking an act can't be big if they're not in the charts.

To be fair, most of Rudimental's output since 'Waiting All Night' has been fairly forgettable. This is one of the better ones.

It would be very West Ham to sign an injury-prone, past-his-prime player on ridiculous wages...

Round 8: Least Favourite Bruno Mars Single
PMivT7MJ41M 8. That's What I Like (11 Votes) 9. Versace on the Floor 10. It Will Rain 11. When I Was Your Man 12. Young Girls 13. Gorilla 14. The Lazy Song Wow, a billion views for this on YouTube.... That is the indication of just how popular this track is. Released as the second single from '24K Magic', this was unavoidable at times last year becoming the type of song all types of radio stations playlist. In America it was even bigger, climbing to #1 in the spring and having a ton of remixes from artists like Gucci Mane and PARTYNEXTDOOR. I didn't clock its hit potential upon first listen of the album but this is impossibly catchy, if a little sweet and potentially annoying. Next round closes Wednesday, getting ever harder to choose now!

ASAP Ferg ft. Nicki Minaj - Plain Jane (Remix)
XDMGmtpvBjs One of my favourites at the moment. The original was big, but radio has started playing the remix version with Nicki Minaj and it isn't hard to see why. Complimenting the original, this is the best Nicki Minaj has sounded in a while and really fits with the song. The chorus is a hype too.

Mabel - Fine Line (feat. Not3s)
Despite this being her biggest pop single yet, I really like this! There is so much chemistry between Mabel and Not3s musically.
-
Burna Boy ft. Lily Allen - Heaven's Gate
It just strikes me as the type of song they'd put on there for six weeks or so. Its left-field and catchy, and they've started play listing more urban songs on there now.

Burna Boy ft. Lily Allen - Heaven's Gate
FKa6jTfZB5w Something a bit different for you here... and a contender for most left-field collaboration of the year so far. Nigerian artist Burna Boy has teamed up with Lily Allen for this effort. Relentlessly upbeat, slightly weird but also catchy as hell, this song has been released by Warner Music and I can definitely see Radio 1 playlisting this. Also previews a collaboration with J Hus called 'Sekkle Down' which sounds very in-tune with what's hot in the UK right now. Worth a listen for sure!

R&B & Hip-Hop Recommendation Page
Life has been busy just recently, but here is the next selection of what's hot in the world of urban music! Avelino ft. Dave - U Can Stand Up xjvCZ1AEUpg Avelino has been releasing great music for a while now, and after R1 playlisted '1 In A Million', this fan favourite from his 'No Bullshit' album has been given the video treatment. Featuring Dave, this sounds so anthemic and uplifting! Definitely need more music like this, recommended for fans of Wretch 32. One Acen ft. WSTRN - Vice Versa o7-z1XKK3BU Heavily hyped by 1Xtra this January, this collaboration dropped on Friday and the video just today. A very melodic track, with an interesting beat to match too - you may remember One Acen for his feature on huge 2017 song 'Unsigned' with Hardy Caprio and this latest offering shows he is an artist with lots of potential! Recommended for fans of J Hus, Lotto Boyzz and the like. SL - Tropical AuzMyTHNFDw The UK drill scene is just starting to get mainstream recognition and the artist with the most crossover potential, SL, has been getting rave reviews for this one. Garnering 3 million views in just over a month, this is less harsh sounding than much of the drill scene and has been playlisted at both 1Xtra and Capital XTRA. For fans of AJ Tracey.

Migos - Culture II
Album out now! No songs as good as 'T-Shirt' on first listen, but 'Walk It, Talk It' is a tune and 'Stir Fry' has really grown on me.
-
MIST - Game Changer
ihYWpi77csY I'm getting hot like Nelly, legend in the game Machiavelli Birmingham rapper MIST has built up a big underground fanbase, with his Steel Banglez produced anthems such as 'Ain't The Same' and 'Karla's Back' so this return was highly anticipated. And his new single 'Game Changer' does not disappoint, it maintains his signature sound while also sounding like a potential mainstream crossover. This is supported by his success on Spotify so far (only just outside the UK Top 50) and the reaction its received on social media. Personally, the piano in the beat reminds me of 'No Words' and the chorus is stuck on repeat in my head! So many quotable lines too. A certified tune.

2017/18 FA Cup
I was there too, alongside 5,000 other West Ham fans... ended up amusing ourselves with chanting 'we're f***ing shit'. Not even a shot on goal which says it all.
-
Kojo Funds ft. RAYE - Check
Very exciting collab, looking forward to hearing this! Reckon it'll sound more 'Bestie' than 'Finders Keepers'.

BBC Radio 1Xtra Playlist
'Game Changer' getting an instant add. :cheer: Good adds for Drake, One Acen, Big Tobz, Mabel and Nafe Smallz too.

Round 7: Least Favourite Bruno Mars Single
A surprise leader so far :o

B Young - Jumanji
JFlrNP6_I28 Just outside the UK Spotify Top 50 and added to Hot Hits a few weeks ago, this looks a very safe bet to be the next UK rap hit. 'Safe' being the operative word, as I don't think there is anything ground-breaking about this song and its success is probably more down to the saturation of the UK afro-rap sound right now. Still, it's a decent song for what its worth - take a listen.
