That made me laugh so much.
  3. I think we can all agree that 2017 was a stellar year for music championed by this forum! Many of the years big hits, both culturally and commercially, were urban and artists such as Cardi B, J Hus, Post Malone and Stormzy became household names. There's every indication that urban music can continue to be a dominant presence on Spotify and in the charts. The question is, what are your predictions for 2018? Which artists will break through? Which songs already premiered will blow up? Any dominant urban genres that will see the most success or any artist's return that people are looking forward to? Mine are: 'Barking' will be a top 5 chart hit.The afro-influenced UK Rap sound will become oversaturated by mid-Summer and songs will start to underperform.Yxng Bane will have a big chart hit in the Spring.Chance The Rapper will return and have his most successful era yet.Swae Lee's solo material will be more succesful than Quavo. One hyped urban female (Cardi B, Mabel, Stefflon Don) will become known as a one hit wonder.Jorja Smith won't have a chart hit, but a critically acclaimed album.

Neither of them would suit house.

Ngl I half want to watch them all but half wish I'd never watched what I watched.

Watched two episodes of this for the first time with my mate yesterday and I've barely been able to think about anything else since! (I watched Shut Up and Drive and the Christmas episode). Both captivating and with plot twists I didn't see coming. Struggled to sleep after watching them idk why.
  7. Very true. This is sometimes overlooked by chart fans when assessing the popularity of urban music. Another example of this (in the UK at least) is something like 'Addison Lee' - not a huge chart hit but undeniably culturally massive.
  8. Unless it's signed to a major label and/or gets underground hype I wouldn't have thought this would get an add. A dance song much more likely to receive 1Xtra support in the New Year is 'Wavey' I reckon.
  9. It still could be of course, but I think the real issue is that it has been overshadowed by similar releases. It dropped on the same day as 'My Lover' which has taken off and since songs like 'No Words', 'Bad' and 'Barking' have attracted more attention than this new Yungen song. He'll be back. He's got a good ear for mainstream-friendly producers and featured artists so I'm sure he can have a hit in 2018.
  10. It's very commercial actually, just not as strong.
  11. 1Xtra love Avelino! And the new Yungen song is much weaker than 'Bestie' which was perfect for the late Summer.

If the song is good, I see no reason why they couldn't have another hit! If they released an on-trend UK influenced record with a female R&B twist I'd be all for it.
  13. Good adds there for Big Boi, Giggs and Lil Uzi Vert this week, need to check out the Yo Gotti and Yogi tracks. Plenty of big songs they can add in the next few weeks though, needs a freshen up for the new year.

As a proud Bristolian, I watched the game in the pub with over 100 Bristol City and Manchester United fans. Such scenes when Bristol City scored their winner, I was among them! They played so well and deserved their win. So what if they fail against Manchester City, every other team this season has. What it does mean is another big occasion for the city of Bristol.
  15. Three of the best of the year here! Love HUMBLE and XO Tour Llif3 in particular.
  16. I think some of the names mentioned have only had one song, however huge that song was, that captured the public's attention. I'm looking at Yungen and Logic, whereas French Montana and Cardi B have had huge hits AND crossed over. One look at social media shows how popular Cardi B is right now and her features too. In the UK I think there is a strong argument for J Hus as biggest artist - in my experience his music has been unavoidable this year. Did You See is also one of the biggest songs of the year, no matter which way you look at it. However, Stormzy has really become a household name this year so can't really argue against him. I mean, how many UK rappers could release something like 'Big For Your Boots' which got love on the streets and the charts and appear on the X Factor! Critically, a lot of good names mentioned here - Kendrick, SZA and Khalid especially. I think Kendrick challenges Post Malone for biggest artist of the year actually, every year he just seems to get bigger. Also, Kendrick is a household name now and I'm not sure Post Malone is quite there yet (although next year he probably will be).
  17. As a West Ham fan, this is far from a dull season! Must admit, Moyes is proving me very wrong. The team look so much more organised and fit - we could have won by 5 or 6 yesterday. Arnie is like a different player and I loved his celebration! Apart from maybe Swansea, nobody looks like being cut adrift.
  18. GoldLink, Krept & Konan, Mr Eazi and Ramz for me this week!
  19. As the title says... who has been the biggest urban artist this year? Whereas last year it was undeniably Drake, it's been a lot closer this year. I'd say Post Malone. From the UK, probably Stormzy with J Hus a close second. Agree? Would like to hear reasoning too.
  20. I suspect Afrobeat-influenced UK rap will continue to have its moment in the sun through the first half of next year. 'Barking' looks like being a huge chart hit and songs from Steel Banglez and Not3s should also do well. I expect Yxng Bane will come with a chart hit at some point next year. I do think it will reach oversaturation point by the summer though. Some more from me to look out for: ASAP Ferg - Plain Jane CLiQ - Wavey Not3s ft. Shakka & Tinie Tempah - No Drama
  21. Wavey is a massive tune! Fingers crossed for it.
  22. Agree with this. On another note, I'm liking the new Eminem/Ed Sheeran song a lot more than I thought. Sounds a bit 2012, but that sound is almost nostalgic to me now. Big hit oncoming?

EFmjgUgltzc Obviously the growing success of this song is down to the iPhone advert - but this is a fine example of pop rap in its own right! Playlisted by Radio 1 today and this would certainly sound different in the current charts.

Added to the 1Xtra playlist today, alongside a place on Capital XTRA. Starting to get support now!
  25. The first bit is the best bit by far.
