  1. I don't understand the criticism of this by some people, this is still great!
  2. 83. Not3s - My Lover
  3. X9RnnZf6zHQ Three singles, three triumphs for Not3s - this was the most instant for me yet! That guitar twang reminds me of 00s classics such as 'Hotel' and 'Like Glue and while this isn't in their league yet this has been on repeat all day. FfXrmepH49g
  4. 7NtrarqVQEw After Yxng Bane-featuring 'Bestie' was one of the big breakthrough hits of the Summer, Yungen has released the follow up. Follows a similar formula tbh, a song for the girls with an addictive chorus which makes the song really. Can't see it being as big as 'Bestie' was, but it wouldn't surprise me to this become a minor hit with some solid radio backing. I'm definetly supporting anything that gets Mr Eazi some exposure to a mainstream audience!
  5. 'do re mi' sounds better, but a step in the right direction for Tinashe.

Bristol City get Man United at home! No overtime for the Bristol police when that rolls around... West Ham get Arsenal away so that's us out.
  7. NLZRYQMLDW4 8. DNA (6 votes) 9. i 10. LOYALTY. 11. LOVE. 12. The Blacker The Berry A fan favourite upon the release of DAMN. this year, DNA falls about where I expected it too. Goes off in the clubs as you'd expect, but never received a radio push here in the UK which is strange. Anyway, vote closes in just under 48 hours so get voting!

Tonight reminds me why I love West Ham!! Never saw that coming, what a result. I know it's only the League Cup but tell that to the fat off grin on my face. Great to see Bristol City get through, hope for a big tie for them and for the city! The whole area will be buzzing if a top team comes to the West Country (Rovers fans excepted).
  9. FwCCxSS9VkI Really liking this right now, got quite a good chance of going Top 40 as well which is impressive!
  10. She always did come across manufactured and without a real identity, so not too surprising to speculate about the influence of 'her team'. (I do quite like 'Your Song' actually).
  11. A tough category I feel, with 10 artists who have had excellent breakthrough years in 2017! I feel the three that will stand out to many are Jorja Smith, Mabel and Stefflon Don and with good reason. All have made their chart debuts this year and big things are expected for all three artists. They are warranted front runners for this award. Also, it's been a great year for 'Afroswing' rap - UK rap music with Afrobeat and Caribbean influences. Following the example of J Hus, artists such as Kojo Funds, Lotto Boyzz, Not3s and Yxng Bane have exploded in popularity this year. This sound I feel has been the defining street sound of 2017 and songs such as Warning, No Don, Addison Lee, Aladdin & Rihanna are all staples round my way. UK Rap with a focus on lyricism has also flourished - the witty wordplay of Loyle Carner, the street readiness of Brummie MIST. and the versatility of Dave (Samantha was one of my favourites at the start of the year) sees them receive deserved nominations. But who will win? Last year's award went to WSTRN and I feel this year is harder to judge. My top 3 would be: 1. Stefflon Don (I firmly believe she will be huge) 2. Dave 3. Jorja Smith In many ways, I could make a case for most of these winning this award, it's so open! Feel free to speculate below.
  12. 8aShfolR6w8 9. i (5 Votes) 10. LOYALTY. 11. LOVE. 12. The Blacker The Berry Kendrick's first UK Top 40 hit, but it feels slightly forgotten these days so perhaps an appropriate time for 'i' to depart. This was very commercial at the time for Kendrick, and a lot of people said this sounded better in the context of the album - something I agree with. however, this sounded fresh on the radio. The first comparison that sprung to my mind was Outkast. Anyway, 8 to go and you have 48 hours to vote!

Equally, there shouldn't be 'token representation' for these categories either. Artists should not be put forward 'just for the representation' as you've put it. I definitely don't think the point about Best Newcomer is a 'void point' either when I think it's highly likely a female artist will win that award. The type of argument you are proposing means that if there were female nominees in each category but no winners then that would be equally taken as evidence of sexism. Also, looking at last year's nominees for Best Song there were songs by Jorja Smith, M.O. and appearances by Beyoncé and Zara Larsson in an admittedly bigger field. If the field was as big this year then at least Stefflon Don and Mabel would have made it on.

Yes, but 'Dun Talkin' was a huge underground hit - music that deserves recognition by award ceremonies like the MOBOs. It's got over 13 million views on YouTube for example and it's a song I've heard consistently throughout 2017. For black music, it has been one of the defining songs of the last twelve months. And like I've said, the MOBOs aren't there to reward the five biggest urban chart hits. Look at last years winner ('Robbery' by Abra Cadabra & Krept & Konan) and I guarantee only a handful of Buzzjack members have heard that song. I don't think the MOBOs can really be accused of gender bias either - the Best Newcomer award is full of female artists who could win that award (Mabel, Jorja Smith, Stefflon Don). Best Song is a narrow field and if it was as wide as other categories I guarantee female-led songs would have been shortlisted.
  15. Still time to vote, very close as it stands!

I'm amazed that 'Location' never charted here, it seems the biggest Khalid song so far.
  17. I actually can't stand Mr Brightside. Everytime it comes on during a night out (and it is every night) it's my cue to go to the bar or the toilet.
  18. Man's Not Hot finally A-List!! Liking the adds for French Montana, GRM Daily, J Hus & Stormzy and also jokes they've added Chris & Kem. Shame Jorja Smith has already gone though.

I do think Finders Keepers could have been nominated, but maybe the Stefflon Don one hasn't been out long enough. I do think it would have been harsh to exclude any of the five nominated.

Finders Keepers could actually become a Top 10 hit! Probably the biggest sleeper hit from the UK this year, never thought it could do so well when I first heard it in March.

The nominations for the 2017 MOBO Awards were announced this week, and leading up to the ceremony in November the R&B Forum will be running a series of polls to figure out who should be winning the awards! First up is Best Song, a heavily competitive category but I think this year they picked five very strong songs. The songs are as follows: J Hus - Did You See Kojo Funds ft. Abra Cadabra - Dun Talkin' Not3s - Addison Lee Stormzy - Big For Your Boots Yungen ft. Yxng Bane - Bestie I think maybe 'No Don' could have crept in, but apart from that I think they picked the strongest five. Addison Lee has been a huge underground anthem that has crossed over, Dun' Talkin is the underground hit of the year (and the chart hit that never was), while these nominated songs saw J Hus and Yungen achieve their first Top 10 hits and cemented Stormzy as a national treasure. I think Did You See should win overall, but don't rule out the impact of Addison Lee. What does everyone else think? dFOErVWlsxg3rk6_Ax0mQoCyfwmoGJzNE9UQoHSo9-IoICPp_1SDueM
  22. Dlh-dzB2U4Y 10. LOTALTY. (6 Votes) 11. LOVE. 12. The Blacker The Berry On first glance, it might be a surprise to see a Kendrick/Rihanna collaboration out so early. However, I think the common consensus was that while this is a solid song it doesn't quite stand up in comparison with the rest of Kendrick's back catalogue. Personally, I think the video and the excitement of seeing Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna link-up overshadows a mediocre track. Props for the clever 24K Magic sample though! Next round closes midnight on Saturday so get voting!
  23. Shaqiri and Xhaka for starters! Switzerland tend to be one of those teams people underrate or assume they are boring but they do have a very good team. Obviously their qualifying group was easy and they froze in the final game against Portugal but they are favourites against Northern Ireland for a reason. I do hope Northern Ireland get through though, Switzerland always get there and never do much.
  24. Switzerland, Croatia, Italy should go through for me - they look to just have that edge in quality and experience. Denmark - Ireland too close to call.
  25. I don't know what it is, but something about her rapping style makes me cringe a bit. It's a shame, I really liked 'Where Are You Now'.
