Jorja Smith - Lost & Found
Teenage Fantasy has really grown on me, think it's her strongest song since Blue Lights!
-
J Hus - Common Sense
'Spirit' has been added to the R1 playlist and has been A-Listed on 1Xtra for a few weeks now. It sounded an instant smash when I first heard it - think it's even catchier than 'Did You See'. hBgF6JrWaO8

Lotto Boyzz - Birmingham (Anthem)
It's been stuck in my head ever since I heard it!

Lotto Boyzz - Birmingham (Anthem)
pq1mUEhKQfc I challenge anybody to listen to this and not have 'man I'm from Birminham' stuck in their head for the rest of the day. This sounds big and will obviously be a floor filler in the West Midlands for years to come.

R&B & Hip-Hop · NEWS
Haile should pursue a solo career I reckon. One hit wonders they may be, but IN2 remains one of my favourite songs released this decade.

She isn't the selling point of 'Feels' though.

Snakehips & Anne Marie - Either Way (ft. Joey Bada$$)
Confirmed to be released this Friday and will feature American rapper Joey Bada$$! Heard a 20 second snippet on Facebook, sounds decent.

Love Island • Series 3
Honestly, some of her's and Chris's arguments bought a wry smile to my face. I want Kem and Amber to win too!

Not3s - Aladdin
IWW8PbclQKY The follow-up to the huge 'Addison Lee' by UK rapper Not3s, it would not surprise me to see R1 pick this one up too. Another very catchy effort and has been playlisted by 1Xtra for the last month. Effortlessly summery and I always find myself humming this or singing the chorus.

JAY-Z - 4:44
Great to see, that's my favourite from the album!

I too think Latin influence will be the next big thing in chart music. Obviously we have Despacito (which will go down as the start of the trend) but also Wild Thoughts. UK rapper Dave's new single, 'Tequila' is Spanish influenced and it will be to 2018 what deep house was to 2014 and 'tropical house' was to 2016.

Dizzee Rascal - Raskit
Wot U Gonna Do sounds massive. Real festival anthem in the making.
-
Yungen ft. Yxng Bane - Bestie
Oh no, how terrible. This is a more radio friendly mainstream song rather than an underground crossover one.

Yungen ft. Yxng Bane - Bestie
Amazingly this is now a Top 40 chart hit!! Made up for both of them, the first UK rap track this year not made by Stormzy or J Hus to break the Top 40 ceiling.

BBC Radio 1Xtra Playlist
Liking all the adds this week! That Toddla T Track is so understated, it reminds me of 'All Cried Out'. Great that both French Montana songs have been added (prefer 'A Lie') and surprised more Dizzee tracks haven't been added. Shame 'All Around The World' has been removed, that really grew on me.

Your Song | 1st Single
I actually really like this. :o Like the original more than the TeamSalut Afrobeat remix with Burna Boy which says a lot. 'Poison' was crap though, no redeeming features about that one.

Tinashe - Flame
But huge pop songs aren't necessarily 'in' right now are they? I think '2 On' was a hit mainly because it was very on-trend for the time. Hopefully she releases a Metro Boomin produced song or something similar to 'All My Friends' next.

French Montana - A Lie
Well this is a triumph! That hook is simple yet catchy. Probably perform similarly to tracks like 'Low Life' and 'Might Not'.

EastEnders
Be just on her legs though wouldn't it, judging by how she fell?

How are these hits selected?
-
Playboi Carti - Magnolia
Been loving this for a while, been going off in the clubs too. Infectious and on-trend so not surprised to see this doing well.
-
Tinashe - Flame
It flopped because it wasnt good enough to attract the Pop audience the song was obviously intended for. Simple.

Chase & Status - Love Me More (feat. Emeli Sande)
To be fair, 'Heaven' is the best Emeli Sande song and this type of dance music isn't prevalent anymore. I think it's the perfect balance of fresh and nostalgic (for the mid 10's ).
