Film scores that work perfectly.
Agreed - it's one of the few film score albums you can actually sit down and listen to without it sounding...incidental. There are a few soundtracks that didn't work at all well, too, that need mentioning here. The one that stands up for me is The Matrix. Bar Rob Dougan's beautiful Clubbed To Death, the soundtrack is a turgid trawl through pretty sub-standard dated 'rawk' music.... Rammstein, Rage Against The Machine, Marilyn Manson... what should have been a hi-tech futuristic modern masterpiece is bogged down with a truly terrible, clumpy soundtrack - at odds with the whole look and feel of the film. Also, whilst, in my opinion, the last 2 Bond films have been the best ones ever - they've had two of the worst-ever theme tunes.

Gabriel Yared's stunning soundtrack for Betty Blue is pretty hard to beat.....

Should The UK Spilt Up?
Not at all - the majority of Welsh people want complete independence. The problem is, we have a Welsh Assembly government that is only concerned with Welsh cities - all its money is ploughed into Cardiff, Swansea and Newport - the rest of Wales is left to rot. Welsh people have never forgiven the English for Margaret Thatcher, simple.

Foster the People - Torches
... I had a promo of the album last week..... and... it's brilliant. For anyone who loved Empire of the Sun or Oracular Spectacular-era MGMT, this is definitely for you - an album where every track sounds like a single. Alongwith PJ Harvey, my album of the year so far.

cheers both - a definite back to basics for me this week after the everything but the kitchen sink approach of last week's ;)

I loved The Cure up til Disintegration, too... after that..... not bothered at all. And whilst I love Pornography-era black as hell Cure, I think some of their poppier stuff is pure brilliance. In fact, my favourite Cure track is Let's Go To Bed, one of their poppiest ever. It's nigh-on a perfect pop song, that.

hmmm.. 'Up' I'm not so keen on. Agree about 'Reno', though, a bit of a stinker on an otherwise stellar collection.- LEAST Favourite of 2003s best selling singles
Oh good - you can read, too. However - is a message on a public forum not posted to voice an opinion? Ahem.....- 1994
I think my favourite REM album is 'Reveal' - some absolute gems on there - 'Ive Been High', 'Disappear', 'She Just Wants To Be'....... it's an oft-overlooked classic to my ears. Tooth-crunchingly gruesome artwork, but still.....- LEAST Favourite of 2003s best selling singles
I suggest you check the definition of what a public messageboard is.... it's an avenue to express your OWN opinion (ie...not someone else's opinion)... err..... thank you. :D And louis - there's not one but TWO abysmal Black Eyed Peas records on this list... I'm sure they can only be there because the majority of the rest of this list is even worse....- LEAST Favourite of 2003s best selling singles
quite....- LEAST Favourite of 2003s best selling singles
I find it far more hilarious that you're trying to paint someone as completely awful as Eminem as some modern day Shakespeare... I mean - are you serious?- LEAST Favourite of 2003s best selling singles
err...maybe if you're 12. With a particularly low command of the English language.- LEAST Favourite of 2003s best selling singles
and hmm...you've clearly either completely mis-read my message - or you're living on a planet where the Black Eyed Peas are even remotely aceptable. Thank Christ I'm not living there.....- 1994
REM are a spent force nowadays, I think, sadly - and why oh why do they always apperar to have Stevie Wonder designing their artwork? They're surely the most consistent band in living memory for having utterly appalling and ugly artwork.... not one of them is in any way pleasing on the eye..... rancid.- LEAST Favourite of 2003s best selling singles
umm...ok. I hate Eminem because he's lyrically banal and childish... and whilst I love rap music - I wouldn't even consider his MTV-lite brand of 'rap' worthy of the genre.- LEAST Favourite of 2003s best selling singles
Eminem a 'modern classic'? errr... really? This is a shoddy list, anyway, with barely a single song left on there worthy of mention - but... Eminem????- Popstar To Operastar
Melody gave what was EASILY last weekend's best performance.... yet she's on her way home??? Whaaaat? :o- The CD Single/Album Cover Design Comp
I think text-less covers can only work when either the image or the actual artist is iconic......- 1994
Fully agreed - a sprawling, majestic, epic masterpiece that they've come nowhere near to matching since. It's in my all-time top 10, too. Their last album, 'Barking' and, to a lesser degree, 'Oblivion with bells' were both welcome almost-returns to form, though.....- LEAST Favourite of 2003s best selling singles
The eternally appalling Black Eyed Peas, please - what on EARTH are Buzzjackers thinking leaving this pile of catsick in the list? TWICE?!?   - 1994
