agreed - all-time classic album..... I absolutely HATE REM's Monster, though.....
  3. :o it's beautiful, as are all the accompanying single sleeves - Savile at his very best..... stunning Nick Knight photography too. Then again, Peter Savile is THE most revered of all the sleeve designers anyway - just look at his work with New Order amongst others.
  4. Can see you doing much better this week - that's dead nice, I like it a lot
  5. I think Coming Up is pretty ok on the whole - and it's my favourite ever album artwork, too.. but... I'm really hating the cheapy packaging with these re-issues - the fold-out digipacks that last about 3 minutes.... every one I've had so far from amazon has been shrinkwrapped - and the spine of the digipack is bent, really ruins the effect when they're side-on on the shelf.... :(
  6. Black Eyed Peas - Shut Up - just an awful, awful song...
  7. aww thanks - took ages... and hundreds of layers. I had about 6 different versions too, but thought sod it, that's the one I'll go with.... :P

When The Levy Breaks for me....

A pop album from Rhydian is about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit, let's be honest...... the original poster here is part of his 'online team'...... hmm..... he'll need more than a few messageboard hackers to sell any of this album, I reckon.....
  11. she failed dismally in trying to sound like Goldfrapp, that's the point.... then again, this was a time when everyone and their dog were copying Goldfrapp so..... but you're right - it's Some Girls where Stevens goes Goldfrapp-by-numbers..... how the hell they didn't sue her for ripping off Strict Machine... I'll never know.
  12. Rachel Stevens - Alison Goldfrapp has more style, talent and intelligence in her toenail than Rachel Stevens.... quite why she tried to imitate her..... laughable. Crapola. Big style.

Saint Etienne's 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' remains one of the few cover versions that's miles better than the original. Another for me is Siouxsie's 'The Passenger' (although I know many prefer Iggy's version). The early 90s produced some truly stellar music - 'Weirdo' is still my favourite Charlatans track. Lush were a brilliant band that were on the verge of truly huge things when they lost a member.... very sad, as they produced some of my favourite singles of this period. And Daisy Chainsaw - brilliant - Love Your Money is a brilliantly bonkers slab of thrashy noisy pop that's hard not to love.
  14. .... this is an album I keep finding new gems on - On Battleship Hill is just BEAUTIFUL......
  15. Lewis, image is great, not sure about the font and the red and pink round it, though...? Jark - first one, definitely.... perfect image
  16. GaGa - 1st one for sure.... FM - I like that - doesn't she look like Nelly Furtado? As for my comments about friends/fans - that was directed at voters, certainly not at entrants - Ryan's cover last week was my favourite of his - ever - so it was absolutely deserved. Happen I'll go for the last one of mine, then.... it was the one I nearly didn't bother saving, too....
  17. Unfortunately, very often..... yes. Nicola Roberts for me this week, amended the post to get rid of the other choices I put up.... http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm76/blissfulignorance_2008/nicolaroberts5-1.jpg
  18. very clever, Sean, that really should do well.... I just hope you have some friends or Coldplay fans round here <_<

Very sad news - he helped shape much of the music that I really loved way back then.... RIP...
  20. but not enough for their records to be banned - after all, 50 Cent and Eminem have built careers on being disgustingly homophobic.... I'd say whilst homophobia is viewed as being a little uncool - it's still alive and kicking, especially in the black-dominated hip hop scene and especially in Jamaican reggae and dancehall.
  21. My whole pont was that it ISN'T worse - but TV companies, even now, always get cold feet when the gay issue arises. Off topic, but relevant, was BBC2's recent adaptation of Christopher 'A Single Man' Isherwood's fantastic book Christopher And His Friends - the book is basically a gay man's diary as World War 2 erupts - and his gay affairs before, during and after WW11. It's literally packed with stories of his gay exploits. The TV adaptation was like some Merchant Ivory production - very little gay sex, just a few tentative kisses..... absolutely ridiculous. Isherwood must have been turning in his grave to see his rampantly erotic book turned into this because the BBC got the heeby jeebies abut man on man action.. If this had been an adaptation of a straight guy's sexploits during this era, can you honestly imagine them leaving all the sex out? As for there being no uproar about nudity, I disagree - a nude scene in a TV drama, say, still causes a bit of a scandal. Moreso in America, where their main channels are crazily censored.
  22. Excellent post, and I agree..... I'm sick of bands and acts releasing naff first singles..... the lead single will always be the main single off an album in my view, and it's bizarre that the best doesn't come first these days.
  23. Well, there's little doubt that they ARE becoming increasingly explicit - after all, it was only 1990 that Madonna was getting lambasted for Justify My Love, front page in all the newspapers, crucified in the press - nowadays, people wouldn't blink an eye at a stray nipple or a lesbian snog...... My bugbear is that it's always females exploited in the videos - in the rap genre particularly - and they seem to be paraded in a seriously unpleasant way - the ho's and bitches attitude, women as objects, that kind of thing. And usually by seriously dodgy, ugly males - Eminem, Snoop Dogg etc... the kind of men who, if they weren't global megastars, would only encounter girls like this if they saved their benefit money up for a year and went scouting for callgirls. When was the last video that caused uproar because it showed MALE nudity? It almost never happens, although I'd be happy if there's some Buzzjackers who could show me otherwise ;)
  24. I wonder how Daniel got along with his Kate purchases...? I played Directors Cut again last night - and yes, it's every bit as awful as it sounded a few weeks ago... a definite 'what the hell was she thinking?' moment..... :(
  25. Only heard it twice today but... well... it's Coldplay-by-numbers really, isn't it? He even sounds bored singing it....
