  2. Chronic Kitten - surely Britain's worst ever girlband? (after BWitched, of course)
  3. Even on a list as Godawful as this one.... Westlife walk it.....

All very ordinary..and yes, Ronan Parke's the winner...but... err... can someone have a word in, ahem, 'music mogul' Simon Cowell's ear? What the hell has Adele got to be proud of listening to Parke sing 'Make You Feel My Love'??? It's an old Bob Dylan song, something of a modern standard, that's been covered by oodles of people, the latest in a loooong line is Adele. Who sang it very nicely.

  7. Really lovely....
  8. Thanks Jaack, not sure yet - but couldn't miss the opportunity for a GaGa cover ..... after hearing the album, the steely electro of Government Hooker, I thought an uber-modern industrial-style cover would suit. Is there anyone here who likes the actual album artwork? It's the worst album cover I've seen sine Madonna's Hard Candy.... :puke2:
  9. it's true though, FM.... Here's my GaGa entry..... ;) http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm76/blissfulignorance_2008/ladygagabtw.jpg
  10. I think JARK should've designed the actual cover - his makes the official one (which, let's be honest, is abysmal) look like a Buzzjack Cover Design entry that would struggle to make 9th place. Stunning work.
  11. How on earth can people vote Kelis over Natasha bloody Bedingfield? She STINKS?! Kelis is the only great record left on the whole list....????
  12. Natasha bloody Bedingfield - the only person in the world who can make even her brother seem talented.... vile.
  13. Kate's the only artist I've followed from Day One.... where I've bought every single album on the day of release... on this reckoning.... I was 10 when I bought The Kick Inside... I remember asking my Mum what some of the lyrics meant.... and her saying...hmm...I'm not really sure you should be listeniong to that at your age :D God knows what she thought when I was singing Kashka from Baghdad or The Infant Kiss around the house..... the lyrics to Infant Kiss, even now, still seem shocking..... and it remains one of my favourite Bush moments.
  14. I love Sensual World, so definitely don't agree - and, after buying the 3-CD pack, with the Red Shoes remastered from the original analogue tapes..... there's at least half of the album that sounds..... bloody brilliant. Song of Solomon and Top of the City especially - the remaster works amazingly well... these 2 songs have never sounded better - and definitely not in their re-recorded state on Director's Cut. OK, we still have the appalling Constellation of the Heart, Why Should I Love You and You're The One.... but tracks like Big Stripey Lie... they sound damn good given the old remastering treatment. What strikes me with Director's Cut is the sameiness.... it's as if Kate remembers the universal praise for A Coral Room - and decides her other classic ballads (This Woman's Work and Moments of Pleasure) would benefit from - exactly the same treatment...... to my ears, they don't, although Moments on the new album is rather brilliant. I'm still agahast at how Godawful Flower of the Mountain is, though..... a definite "what on earth was she thinking?!" moment for me..... :o
  15. Nah, I'd never recommend a Greatest Hits album to someone who wants to find out more about an artist.... a bit of a cop out, a singles album, don't you think?
  16. Probably my overall favourite, too - however, for a casual newcomer, it's pretty inpenetrable. And it's only relatively recently that the genius of The Dreaming was recognised.... upon release, it was loathed by critics and fans alike.
  17. agreed - abysmal muzak for Mums.....
  18. In all honesty, I'd avoid Director's Cut like the plague - it's an album for the die-hards only - I'd consider myself one of them, but even I don't like it one bit..... Definitely Hounds of Love for starters - on headphones, preferably...and get the re-issued CD version which includes the extra tracks (a fiver online)..... and look out for Under The Ivy and Be Kind To My Mistakes... two tracks that show the quality of work this lady was producing at this time that she could consign these classics to b-side status. In order, for a newcomer, I'd go for these..... Hounds Of Love The Sensual World Aerial Never For Ever The Kick Inside Lionheart The Dreaming (incredible album - but a tough one to get into) Red Shoes Director's Cut
  19. What shocks me a bit about the album is that, for a notorious perfectionist like Bush, the vocals seem....off. Plus, Flower of the Mountain sounds like she recorded it underwater. On Valium. Whilst eating a boiled sweet. The same as Rubberband Girl. I think, in reality, the sad fact is - it wasn't that the recordings of the originals weren't up to scratch...... I think the songs themselves, well Red Shoes ones anyway, are just not good enough to merit remaking. She's ripped the guts out of This Woman's Work and turned it into a meandering mess - devoid of anything but a feeling that Bush is bored rigid singing it. The fraught desperation of the original, it's gone - replaced by a sparse arrangement that just doesn't work on any level. The huge faux pas on Directors Cut is the remake of Sensual World - it's so bad it's embarrassing - the James Joyce text simply doesn't fit the arrangement (which is exactly the same as the original anyway).... it's toe-curling hearing an artist of this stature clumsily fitting bits of a frankly unreadable book into what is now an unlistenable song. Undoubtedly the worst thing this fine lady has ever ever recorded. The stunningly beautiful Song of Solomon remains almost unchanged bar the vocal - and the addition of some pretty awful "wap bam doo's" which sound like a yelping puppy in a stranglehold. Only Moments of Pleasure sounds better... the choir is a terrific idea that works beautifully...... It pains me to say it, but Director's Cut is shocking..... a completely misguided idea that falls at every hurdle. If only this lady had someone who could suggest to her this really wasn't a very good idea - that when you polish a turd...well... sorry Ms Bush..... it's still a turd..... :(
  20. Bush looking to stop Adele's chart run Tuesday May 17, 2011 By Paul Williams Music Week Kate Bush has taken an early lead over Adele in UK artist albums sales this week but, with a deficit of fewer than 3,000 units to make up, the XL signing’s 21 could still make it a 16th week at number one. Bush’s newly-released Director’s Cut, her first issued by the label Fish People via EMI, is aiming to become the singer’s first UK chart-topper since retrospective The Whole Story in 1986. Her last album Aerial peaked at number three in November 2005. The album had sold 17,562 copies up to yesterday compared to 14,645 for Adele’s 21, which is currently one of three XL albums among the top five sellers. It is joined in third place by the newly-issued second Friendly Fires album Pala and 21’s predecessor 19 in fifth place, while the top five sellers is completed by Warner Music Entertainment’s Let Them Talk by Hugh Laurie at number four. The Laurie album debuted at two on last Sunday’s chart.

  22. Anastacia of course - nauseous Mum's muzak.... hideous.
  23. to the stupid, maybe... I was referring to the fact that she ISN'T in the video - so who knows what her weight is? It's Coltrane we see - as the main focus... NOT Bush. Spelt out E A S I L Y enough now? Thank you.
  24. I've never been a fan of Polly - se's always been either too rocky, too screechy, too....something.... and I've never really got her. And I found White Chalk just painful. However..... after reading the reviews for this album I decided to take the plunge (and after seeing her spellbinding performance on Later...)... and I agree - unquestionably my album of the year so far. The Glorious Land is SUBLIME.... I've had it on repeat in the car for the past week and it gives me goosebumps..... the guitar sounds like Johnny Marr at his blissed-out finest....... and there's echoes of Cocteau Twins, Kate, Siouxsie...... a fabulous combination in anyone's books. My song of the year. The first half of the album is definitely the winner - it does tail off a little in parts but maybe that's because I've not given the latter half the attention I've given the first half quite yet.... but I can't praise Let England Shake highly enough - it's a masterpiece.
  25.   Christ... WHAT clubs do you frequent? Please let me know.... I need to avoid.....
