Cheeiest Music Videos Ever
Cheesy and toe-curling? Has to be 'Hello' by Lionel Richie - the blind woman making the clay model of his head... how wonderful, you might think, until she turns it round to show him.... and there's this ghastly cross between King Kong and Pete Burns staring back at poor Lionel....

Anyone like Tori Amos?
I've heard every single Tori album - and to say they're not a patchy as you think Kate Bush's apparently are - seriously?! Her last few albums have been, at best, Godawful. However, I absolutely agree that 1000 Oceans is probably her finest track since Little Earthquakes. One of my major critiscisms of Tori is that she seems to have zero quality control - there was a period where she appeared to release anything and everything, abums at an alarming rate, each diminishing in quality and returns. I also agree that some of Aerial and most of Red Shoes is absolutely terrible - once an artists starts singing love songs to their children you know you're in serious, serious trouble. However, can you honestly say Tori Amos has released anything as groundbreaking, out-there and ownright jaw-droppingly brilliant as The Dreaming? Hounds of Love? Even, bar one or two dodgy tracks, Never For Ever?

Mikey - definitely cover A, although I'd add some shading to the font to make it a bit more visible

Pink - terrible terrible song.

Kate Bush - 'Director's Cut'
Agreed - she's an artist I'd buy any old tripe by... and in fact, with Red Shoes, I probably did :o :P

Anyone like Tori Amos?
I'm utterly gobsmacked that anyone in public can honestly, hand on heart, say that they prefer Tori Aimless over Kate Bush. The people who prefer Aimless over Bush are probably just too young to remember the actual impact Bush made. It's like, to take this to base level, people saying they love GaGa but loathe Madonna - it's a bizarre chicken/egg scenario. There simply wouldn't be one without the other, and whilst imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - there comes a time where surely any true artist finds a niche of their own. Aimless hasn't - album after album, we're hearing the same Kate-lite songs - not similarities, but... well... pastiches. "Tonight Matthew, I'm going to be....". Aimless has made one decent album - Little Earthquakes. 'Precious Things' is incredible. However, her turgid ditties about rape, abuse, blah blah bloody blah... it's like 6th form poetry for beginners. I find her absolutely toe-curlingly bad after Little Earthquakes'... deliberately, laughably obtuse... and just a bit.... sad and desperate (I seriously hate how she sits astride her piano stool in gigs and tells 'kooky' stories about her 'kooky' life. It's like Cyndi Lauper goes serious). My absolute least favourite artist.... I thought she was a Kate Bush for the Americans who simply didn't 'get' Kate.....

Kate Bush - 'Director's Cut'
I remember reading shortly before his untimely death that Mick Karn had been working with Kate again - hopefully for Director's Cut, as his trademark bass is all over Sensual World - especially the beautiful Never Be Mine which, I think, is my favourite lyric of hers - it sums up beautifully the end of a relationship and seeing the person you've left carrying on with their life..... superb... I look at you and see My life that might have been: Your face just ghostly in the smoke. They`re setting fire to the cornfields As you`re taking me home. The smell of burning fields Will now mean you and here. This is where I want to be. This is what I need. This is where I want to be. This is what I need. This is where I want to be, But I know that this will never be mine. Ooh, the thrill and the hurting. The thrill and the hurting. I know that this will never be mine. I want you as the dream, Not the reality. That clumsy goodbye-kiss could fool me, But I`m looking back over my shoulder At you, happy without me. This is where I want to be. This is what I need. This is where I want to be. This is what I need. This is where I want to be, But I know that this will never be mine. Ooh, the thrill and the hurting Will never be mine. The thrill and the hurting, It will never be mine. It can never be. The thrill and the hurting Will never be mine.

Kate Bush - 'Director's Cut'
There's a site with oodles of Kate gifs, so I pinched one :o ;) Kate looks beyond gorgeous in the Sat In Your Lap video, I reckon. Isn't it odd that, for an artist who lead the way with videos at the very beginning of the video age, Kate still hasn't allowed EMI to release an official DVD release of her music? Whilst a lot of the early videos have dated quite badly, there's still no denying how, from the 70s to the late 80s, she really did push the envelope. Also, just listened again to The Sensual World - apart from the awful Between a Man and a Woman and the ho-hum Love and Anger (terrible single choice), it's a GREAT album - The Fog..... has she ever released anything more atmospheric?

Kate Bush - 'Director's Cut'
I can live without Red Shoes, apart from the divine Song of Solomon, And So Is Love and Lily... but The Sensual World?! It's a masterpiece! From the liltingly beautiful title track to the stunning Never Be Mine and one of her career-best This Womans Work (hang your head in shame, Maxwell) - it's a warm, wintery gorgeous piece of work..... although I'm not quite sure what re-recording parts of it can do to it. It's already perfect.... Anything new from our greatest living musician is absolutely welcome, though. Interesting that Deeper Understanding is to be a single - it's true that the lyrics really are more relevant now than ever..... a great song.... As the people here grow colder I turn to my computer And spend my evenings with it Like a friend. I was loading a new programme I had ordered from a magazine: "Are you lonely, are you lost? This voice console is a must." I press Execute. "Hello, I know that you've been feeling tired. I bring you love and deeper understanding. Hello, I know that you're unhappy. I bring you love and deeper understanding." Well I've never felt such pleasure. Nothing else seemed to matter. I neglected my bodily needs. I did not eat, I did not sleep, The intensity increasing, 'Til my family found me and intervened. But I was lonely, I was lost, Without my little black box. I pick up the phone and go, Execute. "Hello, I know that you've been feeling tired. I bring you love and deeper understanding. Hello, I know that you're unhappy. I bring you love and deeper understanding." I turn to my computer like a friend. I need deeper understanding. Give me deeper understanding.

Pink - a truly terrible record from a massively overrated 'artist' - Pink stinks. Closely followed by Shakira - who sounds like she's gargling vomit on Hips Dont Lie. Foul.
-

well it's certainly better than listening to Shakira trying to phlegm up a flip-flop in the rancid 'Hips Don't Lie'.

You must have missed vomit like Shakira, Pink, Scissor Sisters and Rihanna STILL on the list, then, I can only assume....

FULLY AGREED - but it's always the way round here - if it aint camp, flappy-armed girly pop or faux-diva hollering, the gayers on BJ vote it out, bless 'em - let's be honest - I'd say a better indication of the best songs of the year are looking at these results - in reverse.

Thanks for the votes - seriously surprised, but thanks all the same. This week, a band who need serious help with their graphic design - has any band released albums in as consistently ugly sleeves as REM? Anyway - what do you think - darker or redder? http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm76/blissfulignorance_2008/remcollapseintonowd.jpg http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm76/blissfulignorance_2008/remcollapseintonow.jpg

I think we all need to calm down - running these contests is time-consuming and far from easy - plus, there's very little reward - so anything anyone does for BJ should really be appreciated.

Portugal - Airplay + Digital Charts
I love Portugal....and your country has a fantastic musical heritage - as well as some incredible performers who I absolutely love (Mariza to name one)... but yikes - your charts are seriously bad, even worse than the UK charts.

Yes, really - and to say The Automtic are a 'faux indie' band...err... I can only assume 'Monster' is the sole thing you've ever heard by them. And saying 'Who Knew' is 'one of Pink's finest' is akin to saying s hit's better than diahorrea, let's be honest. Pink is astonishingly awful, full stop.

Do you only buy music by females? What a shockingly bland top 5 it would've been if only you were voting.... Pink?!?! What? Seriously?! 'Monster' remains one of the finest pop singles of the past 10 years.

Hoe the hell are a band as toe-curlingly AWFUL as Orson still in this list? Is it because nobody seems to notice them?

Hardly in the same class, really, I'd say.

hmm...surely one of the only countries in the world who still haven't caught onto Adele? Weird,... awful chart, too :(
