ABBA
ABBA were truly superb live - a fact not often mentioned, mainly due to them having a Kate Bush-like attitude to touring thanks to Agnetha's fear of flying.... one of my best mates was at one of the London shows when he was a kid and he still says it's the best gig he's ever been to. There's only 3 acts I can think of that cause a hush when you mention you've seen them live - ABBA are absolutely one of them (Kate and The Beatles being the other 2 I'd say....). I've just been checking Amazon for the deluxe ABBA releases from this year - the albums reissued, remastered, with bonus DVDs of all the TV appearances around the time of the album - brilliant, especailly the Voulez Vous one which includes the ABBA In Switzerland TV special and the Mike Yarwood TV spots....

Ultimate Big Brother
I second that - it's always great to see a bully confronted - and it was high time one of the (supposed) men in the house frightened the living daylights out of John James for the appalling way he's treated almost every single female in the BB house this year. I hope Nathan DOES go all guns blazing at him on Friday - it was great seeing John James so peterified in the diary room tonight, demanding to leave because he wanted to run to his mother  I've come to the conclusion he doesn't actually like women very much - Josie's nothing more than a replacement for his mother, she's safe, comfortable and his very own comfort blanket - there's no way on earth he'll have anything to do with her outside the house... he'll have his Mummy back then. I think John James is in love with 3 other people in that house.... his two personalities... and JJ. And Corin's REALLY got John James's number, hasn't she?

The CD Single/Album Cover Design Comp
Not the most inspiring week for new releases... so it had to be Chemical Brothers for me this time... http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm76/blissfulignorance_2008/cbf.jpg

Faithless - Feeling good
So 'Sun to Me' was only a single in Switzerland and Belgium? Bizarre..... t's the standout track, by a mile, on The Dance.... Not Going Home was a very strange single choice, I thought....

Kate Bush ° Running Up That Hill
I was playing Marina and the Diamonds in the car today.... my work colleague thought it sounded like 'the love child of Kate Bush and Lene Lovich'.... she's not far off, I don't think.

Marina and the Diamonds - Shampain
Strange choice for a single - it's the track I always skip on the album - kind of annoying, I find it.....
-
Alexandra Burke - Start Without You
agreed - but isn't the audience she's aiming for...umm... do you think they'd get a 'deep' lyric? I'm sure they'd struggle with the lyric to this one, which, let's be honest, appears to have been written by a backward chimpanzee. Dumb muzak for dumb people. Worst single of the year - by a mile.

Crystal Castles 'Crystal Castles (LP2)' • 17.04.10
'Vietnam's amazing, too - there's something very dated and early 90s about Crystal Castles, but they're damn good all the same....
-
Alexandra Burke - Start Without You
After the dreadful SClub 7-ness of 'All Night Long' now the old Burke decides to give us a re-hash of the Belle Stars' 'Iko Iko' - this is a truly DREADFUL record. Whatever went so wrong for her? Shockingly bad....
-
Faithless - Feeling good
The whole album is the best thing they've ever done - however, isn't 'Tweak Your Nipple' the next single? Best track by miles, and should've been the first single, is 'Sun To Me' - record of the year, that..... incredible.

VINYL COLLECTIONS
I worked there in the late 80s, early 90s... whilst it was still a major retailer then, it wasn't the supermarket-alike store it is today in all fairness..... I was offered a job in Spillers, the famous 'oldest record shop in the world' in Cardiff - an independent, but I turned it down (money was awful)..... sad news about them... with the new St Davids 2 development in Cardiff, they've been forced from the premises they've occupied for over 60 years by rising rent... shame on Cardiff City Council for allowing this to happen

fully deserved, Robot - stunning cover

VINYL COLLECTIONS
You think that - til you work in one. I worked in HMV for about 6 years..... and it's only then you realise how absolutely stupid and sheep-like 95% of music buyers are - basically, if it's advertised on telly or top 10 - they'll buy it regardless. The upsides are the oodles of freebies.... and there are some decent people about....

What Are You Listening To.....
New Order - Substance - has there ever been a more stellar collection of incredible singles? Giorgio Moroder - The Chase - superb comeback single from this genius fella from the 90s.... cruelly overlooked The Style Council - It Didn't Matter - great single from much-maligned, but, IMO, pretty great, Weller band

Coronation Street · 2010-2013
Looking at both Deirdre and Audrey's sun-ruined wrinkly chests in HD.... is it any wonder Lewis buggered off to Barbados? :P

Ultimate Big Brother
I loved the comment on BBBM last night that John James wasn't cute at all - that he looked like some dated 90s boyband member - how true! Fit? He has a body like a malnourished Somalian athlete.... and that guyliner is hilarious - his hair is circa '96.... and he had a horrible little mouth, too. I loved how he tried to dominate the Davina conversation last night when they chose the pass to the final - and was ignored. The only fit guy in that house is JJ - and he's rendered himself sexless by shaving his armpits and pubes - yeuch.

ABBA
I'd say 'The Visitors' is a pretty essential ABBA purchase, SKOB - it's brilliant. And solo - like I mentioned earlier, Frida's solo stuff, bar Shine, is pretty good. Steps made a careeer out of doing this - their 'Deeper Shade of Blue' is the same song as Bananarama's 'Every Shade of Blue' some years before - check them out back to back ;)

ABBA
 nowt wrong with a bit of Kelly - I remember her dancing to that in her jumpsuit, her pendulous knockers swaying in time to the 'boom boom boom boom' bit of the song. In fact, I even bought that single... AND the album. I was only a kid, though, so don't be too harsh :P

Ultimate Big Brother
Davina said tonight Sam's now the favourite to win.... good... I like him. Annoying as hell, but kinda cute and loveable like a kid brother who's sweet one minute - and throttle-able the next. I hope John James goes - when Josie's away from him, she's brilliant - easily the best housemate - but easily the worst when the Oz pillock's about. And thank God that people are FINALLY seeing through Corin - she's a faker.....

VINYL COLLECTIONS
FANTASTIC single. Charity shops are brilliant for vinyl bargains - our local one had the whole Kate Bush back catalogue, which I have anyway, but I re-bought them all for £2 each - and they're all like new, absolutely mint and unplayed! Bargain.... I like the re-issues around now, too, the 180g vinyl editions - The Smiths albums have recently all been re-issued on heavyweight vinyl and also as 12" picture discs - and in the 90s, WEA reissued them all as 10" albums which were rather nice and very limited - I have The Queen Is Dead and Strangeways. The Smiths stuff is always worth getting on vinyl if only for the beautiful artwork. Another band whose vinyl I always get because each cover is a complete work of art is UNKLE - especially the War Stories era. Pretty collectible, too. And musically excellent, of course ;)

ABBA
It's hard to think Winner Takes It All is 30 years old - I remember David Bowie's Ashes to Ashes knocking it off number one (or was it the other way around?) - can't think of many greater singles in succession at number one than these two.

Coronation Street · 2010-2013
Deirdre getting whacked in the face by the Manchester tart was the best bit of Corrie since Blanche at the AA meeting - absolute classic Corrie
