VINYL COLLECTIONS
I'm back into vinyl - the whole covers thing, the lovely limited editions, coloured vinyls, picture discs... yep.. SO much nicer than CDs or ghastly downloads. Check The Vinyl Factory website - their limited editions are stunning... and, whilst pricey, their value rockets because they're so limited. Their recent releases for Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Monkey..... all beautiful. Lovely new vinyls I've bought recently? Antony and the Johnsons - Aeon 7" Antony and the Johnsons - Epilepsy is Dancing 7" (lovely artwork) Pains of Being Pure At Heart - Say No To Love 7" (gorgeous cover light green vinyl) Tracey Thorn - Oh! The Divorces - great artwork and grey transparent vinyl 7" Bombay Bicyle Club - Ivy and Gold and Magnet 7"s Massive Attack - Heligoland (Vinyl Factory triple vinyl - stunning packaging) Massive Attack - Splitting the Atom 12" - as above - now worth a mint Cocteau Twins - Treasure - in a limited Vaughan Oliver-designed box set - 180g vinyl - orgasmic... Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks - yellow vinyl re-issue Plus lots more I can't remember. Yep, vinyl every time... mate of mine's a sound engineer.... he's anal about how his music sounds - and always buys vinyl.... and uses analogue everything. I kept all my vinyl from first time round, too, so I've an attic full - mainly promos and stuff from my years working in HMV....

 I agree - I think it's a showroom dummy - which is what Roxy Music used for their 'Manifesto' cover.... their covers are AMAZING... well worth checking... each one a work of art  I think the first one's my favourite, too....

Decided on Bryan Ferry this week - and, with his and Roxy Music's tradition of iconic female images, decided on either of the following... any preference? http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm76/blissfulignorance_2008/bryanferry2.jpg http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm76/blissfulignorance_2008/bryanferry3.jpg

ABBA
ABBA are fabulous. There, I said it. OK, I really, really hate the 'big' hits - Dancing Queen and Waterloo in particular.... but The Day before You Came, The Visitors, SOS, Name of the Game, Lay All Your Love On Me, Summer Night City, Winner Takes It All, My Mama Said, Knowing Me Knowing You, As Good Aas New.... I could go on (and on and on - see what I did there?).... They've been tarnished with the 'naff and camp' tag for too long - I'd be surprised if any 'fan' of trash like Mama Mia would even know what anything off The Visitors even sounded like.... and there's been far, far too many pointless cash-in Greatest Hits albums, something, I feel, that always cheapens a band's reputation.... but to deny they're on par, not second, to Lennon and McCartney for sheer pop brilliance is wrong, I think. And they're one of thosebands where the album tracks are nearly always far superior to the single tracks. I agree, I Have a Dream is absolutely nausea-inducing - but for every horror, there's 5 gems. Worth checking is the solo album by Frida from the 90s - it was in Swedish.... but it's absolutely beautiful... howver, not being well versed in Swedish, I'm unable to remember the title  And, despite the presence of the ghastly old ape Phil Collins on production duties, her 'Something's Going On' album from 1982 is pretty excellent, too.

The Dan Reed one was one of my favourites, too - but didn't get many votes in the competition. It's strange, really... all art is personal - different things will 'get' different people. Interesting, I think. I don't understand why this design thread isn't the most popular thread on this site - it's the one thread where members are encouraged to be really creative, to volunteer something they've sweated long and hard over - the downturn in people voting and visiting the thread's disappointing.....

What Are You Listening To.....
And today I listened to more I Monster...... which gets better with every listen, Roxy Music - In Every Dream Home a Heartache - in anticipation of the new Bryan Ferry album which is apparently out of this world, and Sex Pistols' 'Spunk'.....

Eviction 9//Part II
JJ's gorgeous (despite his disgusting penchant for complete pubic shaving - nasty), but he adds absolutely bugger all to the house. Are the public really so stupid to keep a dull housemate in just because they're hot? Ah... yes, of course Joe Public is that stupid - how else can you explain the Aussie jerk still being in there this far into the game? How the hell isn't the Aussie jerk up this week????? :o Jo is a great housemate, but I think she'll be off on Friday unfortunately, unles she walks beforehand.

ah Charly, don't disappear on us - your covers are always among our very best on here. I think we all just have off weeks - for me, the covers I do that I love, nobody else seems to... the ones I design and think...hmmm... about... they're the votes winners. I have to say I think the winner last week by Notso is probably my favourite ever entry in this competition - and most of yours make up the rest of my 'all time top 10'. I think there's room for us all here, all techniques welcomed..... but for you to bow out...no.... you're not allowed :P

brilliant - your best so far I reckon. Reminds me of the last UNKLE album cover, which was beautiful. And well done Notso - a deserved win - stunning cover.

Big Brother 11 (The Last Series) Part III
Hitstastic- John James to win - can you give any reasons as to why? His scintilating conversation? His breathtaking command of the English language? His deep emotional spirit? Or just because you'd like to shag him?

What Are You Listening To.....
I've been playing I Monster... their compilation album, 'The Sound of Chill 6'.... SUBLIME!   A stunning double album full of noir oddities and gorgeous little numbers.... from Siouxsie's 'Lunar Camel' to Yazoo's beautiful 'Winter Kills'.... Suicide, The Specials, Tim Buckley, Magazine, Velvet Underground.... one of the finest compilations I've ever heard - astounding.

Big Brother 11 (The Last Series) Part III
What worries me about Corin is that... hmm... she's fake... she aint as dumb as she makes out - some of her diary room visits are obviously staged. Plus... anyone who could humiliate and hurt their partner to the degree she has with her girlfriend really can't be as nice as all that, really, can they? Ultimately, she was attached entering that house.....

What Are You Listening To.....
Absolutely LOVED Send Me An Angel... strangely, it was never a hit in the UK..... Siobhan was in Sugababes...... Siobhan Fahey was in Bannarama and then Shaespears Sister.

Arcade Fire 'The Suburbs' | 02-08-10
The lettering is appalling, the images are naff... and there's absolutely nothing 'cheesy' or '$h!tty' about PhotoShop. If you use it well, of course <_<

Big Brother 11 (The Last Series) Part III
I think, after her perfect summing up of John Jerk James, Jo is now my favourite housemate - love how she looks rough as dogs when she wakes up - but stunning when she's got a bit of slap on. I'm SO bored of Josie and John james - two completely useless lumps of skin in the house who can only operate when they're together. And even then they're completely boring. Has a housemate ever fallen so rapidly from hero to zero as Josie has? I really, really hope John James goes on Friday - easily my least favourite housemate this year - and, despite my dislike of Dave, he tackled him brilliantly in tonight's show... spot on.

Eviction 8 Part 2
Who adds least to the house? Well, the three of them give very little - but, for some strange reason, despite my hatred of his God nonsense and his disgusting views on gay marriage, I've actually warmed to Dave these past few weeks - the discussions he's had with Andrew, Ben, Corin, Rachel the past 2 weeks have all been very warm, truthful and insightful. I think Rachel will go.... but you have to ask... what on earth does John James bring to that house? At first, he seemed on a mission to upset and alienate every female in the house..... and now he's realised Josie is a hot favourite (or was), he's like a fly round $h!t.... and she, bless her, is too dumb to realise. He adds nothing to the house - he does nothing in the way of housework, spends most of his time in bed and has zero to add to any conversation. Possibly BB's worst housemate in quite a few years. Pointless. Shame Mario won the task - I think his time with the public is almost certainly up......

Arcade Fire 'The Suburbs' | 02-08-10
I have to admit, I can take or leave Arcade Fire.... ok, they're a name to drop, have been for a while, but they've really not released anything groundbreaking or life-changing.... or new sounding. And someone, somewhere PLEASE sort this band's graphics out - The Suburbs is, without question, the ugliest and most thrown-together album cover of the year.... nil points. Nasty.

What Are You Listening To.....
That Siobhan Donaghy album is incredible - easily better thanm anything her ex band did with her... or the drivel they've released since.... Today I've been playing..... Matia Bazar - Ti Sento - classic old HI-nrg..... GREAT record from the late 80s Yazoo - Goodbye 70s (Black Light Odyssey remix) - stunning.... how to completely rejuvinate an old classic Soft Cell - Heat (Yer Man remix) - as above - well worth checking out
