The Hero singer’s new fragrance M by Mariah Carey is a blend of marshmallows and Tahitian Tiare flowers.
Perfume makers Carlos Benaim and Loc Dong gushed: "The inspiration for this fragrance was Mariah’s magical presence and artistry. By combining two very contrasted notes, an exotic Tahitian Tiare flower with a deliciously warm marshmallow, we wanted to express Mariah’s utmost femininity and undeniable sensuality in one strong statement.
"This harmonious balance of Mariah’s favourite scents and memories is at the heart of this creation."
Mariah added: "The inspirations were multiple places I’ve been, moments in my life and childhood memories.
"It combines my favourite scents and means so much to me."
Mariah is seen frolicking in water under a colourful sunset in the advert for her fragrance. The scent’s bottle will feature the singer’s signature symbol - a butterfly-shaped stopper.
M by Mariah Carey is part of the Elizabeth Arden range and will come in three sizes, ranging in price from USD38 to USD175.
It will be available from September.
Mariah is set to battle pop rival Britney Spears whose new fragrance
Believe, also from Elizabeth Arden, is set to hit shops soon.

Great pop albums are few and far between, but after a three year break there were great hopes from the new album from the poshest girl in pop – Sophie Ellis Bextor.
With her indie days well and truly behind her, the much maligned Sophie has always been totally happy to embrace her new twinkly world. What album could you name that ends with a grotesquely camp, yet sassy, homage to 50s sci-fi courtesy of the B52s? In fact it’s difficult to expect anything but glistening disco-pop from an album with a title such as Trip The Light Fantastic almost screaming out AMAZING in sparkly, flashing pink letters.
While “Catch You” gave us a grittier Sophie, and the sprightly “Me & My Imagination” recalled days of "Read My Lips" Sophie, disco is the overriding sound here. Reminiscent of Pet Shop Boys, the staccato “New York City Lights” and the hip shaking “If I Can’t Dance” transport us to a world where the glitter ball never stops spinning. But if you thought they weren’t pushing pop to outrageous limits enough, “China Heart” is literally one of the most ridiculous songs we have ever heard. Pulsating with synths Giorgio Moroder would be proud of, it reminds you of “I Feel Love” coupled with a dark, futuristic overtone.
And while you may expect tracks from pop royalty such as Xenomania and Hannah Robinson to stand out, it’s actually the two very different songs contributed by Dan Gillespie-Sells of The Feeling that soar high above the rest. Accomplished at writing the perfect feel-good hit for his own band, Dan’s lite-reggae “Only One” and the uplifting “Love Is Here” leave us with the feeling that Sophie’s “China Heart” might be warming, and that despite the fact that we’ve no doubt they were written together over a Royal Doulton pot of tea, Sophie was actually having fun while singing them. The radio friendly “Love Is Here” even has a trademark Feeling guitar solo and has summer hit written all over it.
Whether there is room for such a manicured, glossy pop star in the musical landscape of 2007 is a different matter. Sophie’s certainly made the pop record she wants to, and if it all sounds a tad 2002 then so be it. Good luck to her.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor: Posh pop is back
Wednesday, 08 Aug 2007 17:09
Sophie Ellis-Bextor is back with her third album, Trip The Light Fantastic
The queen of glitter ball pop talks to InTheNews.co.uk's Martin Ashplant about motherhood, getting back on the touring bike and what its like to be one of the poshest singers in town.
You know you're getting on a bit when Sophie Ellis-Bextor, a girl you remember coming from nowhere to keep Victoria Beckham off the top of the charts at the dawn of the new millennium, starts talking about being a mum, making a comeback and knocking on the door of 30. But at least some things don't change; Ellis-Bextor still does glam-pop with aplomb and retains the sultry, ever-so-slightly raspy, voice that made it so easy for the tabloids to dub her as posher than Posh.
Ellis-Bextor is back with her third album, Trip The Light Fantastic, which has been almost universally well-received after she took a brief hiatus to get married and have a child. "Not bad for someone who does disco-pop," she duly notes. She's spent much of the early summer supporting George Michael and is set to embark on her first solo tour for more than four years
"I can't wait, I'm really looking forward to it," she says in that alluring manner which has almost certainly disarmed a thousand men the world over. "For me the live thing is what I do. When I think about being singer that's what it is all about really and the rest is peripheral."
The daughter of Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis, she's no stranger to being in the limelight and her marriage to Richard Jones, the bassist in the Feeling, has only increased her stock in the eyes of tabloid photographers. She doesn't seem all that bothered by the attention, though, and says she and her husband see it as little more than "a giggle"
Indeed, listening to the 28-year-old speak, you'd think little could upset her for too long. She readily admits that she has been "a bit jammy" to have found success and enjoyed it for a decade and is more than willing to use that to her advantage by working with some of her favourite artists, whether it be the Manics, Blur's Alex James or Cathy Dennis. She's also planning to hook up with Calvin Harris, Carly Simon, and Morten Harket from A-ha in the near future, which will be "lovely", a word that crops up time and again, not least when she talks about how her comeback album has gone down with the critics.
"I know reviews are not the be-all and end-all but it's always nice that people have listened to the album and said 'yes, we think this is good'," she says.
Mojo magazine recently dubbed Ellis-Bextor the "woman with the poshest vowels in pop", while she also had the dubious honour of being listed up there with Chris De Burgh and Dido in the Observer Music Monthly's top ten poshest people in music. Again, though, she's rather nonplussed.
"I've never really been in a big hurry to confirm or distil any rumours of reputation that I have," she says, after a brief pause to receive a package and politely wish the deliverer a good day. "If people want to think I'm really posh then fine, whatever."
So what does motivate Ms Ellis-Bextor? She's "got a life outside her music" now with marriage and motherhood to contend with and although "not quite ancient", she's well out of Kate Nash/Lilly Allen territory but not yet into the realms of that empress of disco, Kylie. Maybe there's a clue when she talks about her favourite song "from when I was tiny", Mickey by Toni Basil.
"It's sexy and stompy and immediate and a lot of the best pop songs are about fancying someone and trying to get them to notice you," she swoons. "I love the fact that it was sung by someone who wasn't 19 and I think we sometimes we get a bit caught up by the myth that pop music is something just for the young. Actually sometimes when a woman who has had a bit more life experience sings about wanting something they can't have makes it all the more potent."
Bextor's third single from the album is out now, she's been seen on BBC's Dance-X of late and she's suddenly very much back in the glare of the media again, with photos of her and her husband adorning newspapers more and more frequently. So is it all worth it?
"If you work in something creative you always think that the best is still yet to come, that's what motivates anyone really. You've got to believe it's still out there and I certainly don't feel I've achieved all I can do yet.
"It's all out there and it's all in your hands. You never know, tomorrow I might write a song that I end up singing for the next 20 or 30 years."
Sophie Ellis Bextor at 58, eh? Now that really would be enough to send anyone off to claim their free TV licence.
The album Trip The Light Fantastic is out now and the single Today The Sun’s On Us was released on August 6th. Sophie Ellis-Bextor's tour starts in Warrington on August 16th and ends ten dates later in Oxford in October.

Not for the first time, the choice of a single off a well-liked album has caused ripples of bickering among Team ChartBlog. Particularly between Steve P and yours truly. In the case of this song, I won't go into detail as to the two viewpoints we've been expressing, as it's not dignified. Let's just say that one of us thinks the disco-tastic 'Love Is Here' should have been released instead, and the other one of us rightly thinks that this is much better, and that Steve P is wrong.
Now, the reason I am right is that, while Sophie Ellis Bextor has one of the best and most distinctive voices in pop, it doesn't always carry a lot of hot passion. She's usually far too reserved for such vulgar displays of emotion. That's not to say her songs aren't emotional, more that she has a kind of icy, melancholic robot oboe of a voice, all haughty and reedy and frosty and sleepy (but not grumpy, happy or, to the best of my knowledge, bashful).
The first time I heard 'Today The Sun's On Us' was as part of a randomised playlist of songs including Sophie's album, Avril Lavigne's album, various singles and a few other bits and bobs. It sort of stood out, with its '80s verses and gently meandering melody, but nothing really astonishing happened until the chorus.
Oh my good Lord, the chorus... Now I will freely admit that I am as vulnerable to being sideswiped by a song which seems to address me personally as anyone. And there's very few people who can honestly claim that they're good at enjoying the good things that they have in their lives while they have them, without looking to the future with a worried eye.
But to hear the previously reserved Ms EllBex PLEADING with me, literally BEGGING that I stop worrying my little head about possible bad things and just relax for a bit. Well, it actually made me blush out loud, and try to be a better person for her sake (she sounds ever so upset).
So that's it, there may be better pop moments on her album, but none as moving, and for this reason alone, the wider world deserves to hear it (but please can we have Steve's choice next?).

INTERROGATION: SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR
Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, 28, talks guilty pleasures, going on tour with a three-year-old and her husband, and not being hung-up about her looks.
by Louise Burke 05/08/2007
You’re on a UK tour this summer, with husband Richard and baby Sonny in tow. How does that work?
Sophie Ellis Bextor: Sonny coming with me has always been the idea. Although it’s harder to take him to interviews now he’s three and much bigger. When he was a baby it was easier, as he’d sleep in the corner. Now, he gets bored easily. He’s like, ‘This is really dull.’ But the touring should work out, because during the day we’re rehearsing in empty venues and he can kick a ball around. By the time I go on stage, he’ll be in bed.
Will the whole family be staying on the tour bus?
SEB: I’m not sure if we’re going to have a tour bus, dressing room or hotel. Whatever we do, we’ll have to have CBeebies!
That’s not so rock ’n’ roll…
SEB: I know. But I still go out. Funnily enough, I’ve been out a lot more since having Sonny. I seem to have more energy. But I don’t drink much when I’m performing. It’s really boring, but alcohol isn’t very good for your vocal chords. But after the show it’s really nice to have a glass of wine. During the day I avoid drink, dairy and spicy foods. I have plenty of hot water, lemon, honey and fresh ginger.
When were you last drunk?
SEB: Tipsy? Probably Friday night. I was doing shots of tequila with my brother and sister. We also drank white wine and cava. I get giggly when I’m drunk and think I’m very funny. My mum had a karaoke party. There were about 30 of us. No matter who you are or what you do, everyone loves karaoke. Everybody starts off going ‘No, no’, but by the end we’re all wrestling each other for the mic. Sonny had a go too – he sang Never Be Lonely (by his dad’s band The Feeling) and he was great. He’s a good singer. It was the first time he got on stage and sang by himself. He wouldn’t let me near him.
Would you and Richard like to have more children?
SEB: Absolutely.
What keeps you awake at night?
SEB: I’m a bit of a kid, I find it hard to wind down. I do that ‘but I’m not tired…’ thing. So I play my Gameboy Advance. Passion killer, eh? Noooo, I do it when Sonny and Richard are asleep. I know, it’s pathetic. What else is really sad is that I’ve really got into Sudoku. I’m a bit of a square. I’ve got that Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training game too, it’s good.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
SEB: Reading celebrity magazines. I don’t want to see myself in them, just other people. Some celebs are so keen to be famous they share really intimate stuff, and I find that really strange. I find those photo shoots in celebrity’s homes really odd too. Although the last laugh is definitely on me – because I buy it.
When are you at your happiest?
SEB: Every time I’m at home with my husband and son in the same place. We dress up in fancy dress. Sonny’s obsessed with Buzz Lightyear at the moment – he’s gone to nursery today dressed up as him. Or we jump on the sofa pretending we can fly. It’s a good stress buster.
Do you ever leave the house without make-up?
SEB: Yes, but it’s not something I can recommend. I’m not that fussed about beauty products, although I wear a lot of make-up when I’m performing. When you’ve got to get your kid to nursery, you haven’t really got time to do make-up. I’d hardly be like, ‘In a minute darling, mummy’s just finishing her foundation.’ Like any woman, I want to look alright and not scare small children, but I’m not obsessed about it.
How would you rate your looks on a scale of 1-10?
SEB: When I’m all done up in my professional world, maybe an eight, because I have fantastic hair and make-up girls and wear great clothes and shoes. As far as pop stars go, I think I really push my look and I’m proud of that. As a real person, I’m more like a five or six. Sometimes I look OK, sometimes a bit rough.
Would you ever have plastic surgery?
SEB: It’s not something I’m interested in. But if you’re looking in the mirror and you’re not happy with something and know of a way of making it better, I’m not going to talk you out of it. One of my friends just had a boob job and she had the implants put underneath the muscle, which I think is supposed to be a better way of doing it. They look so good, I forget she’s had them done. But personally, I’m too scared to have anything.
You’re looking super-slim after having Sonny – is it true you’ve never dieted?
SEB: Yes. I don’t believe in them. That’s not to say I eat junk food all the time, because you can’t do that and stay in shape. But I don’t think there’s anything more unsexy than going out for a meal with someone and them saying, ‘Oh, I can’t eat that, I’m on such-and-such a diet.’ Also, I have a lot of friends who are on constant diets and none of them seem to work, and they don’t have a very good relationship with food. I don’t own scales, so if my clothes don’t fit so well or my energy is low, then I may cut out a bit of cheese. But then if I’ve been working hard I just think sod it, I’m going to have an Indian take-away or something.
Who would you like to be stuck in a lift with?
SEB: Apart from my husband? It would have to be someone funny, like Ricky Gervais or Eddie Izzard. Stephen Fry would be quite nice. Hang on, that’s all boys, I need a girl. Perhaps Julie Andrews. I’ve always wanted to meet her. We could talk The Sound Of Music and Mary Poppins.
What was your first ever job?
SEB: I worked in a hairdresser’s, washing people’s hair. That was pretty grim. It was a really long day and I was on my feet all the time. I got £20 a day. It really wasn’t worth it. I should have picked a better one.
Baths or showers?
SEB: I would have said baths, but I’m much more impatient than I used to be, so I now do showers.
If you could jump in a time machine, where would you go?
SEB: It would be fun to go back in time to the 50s. It was the birth of the teenager, rock ’n’ roll and drive-thrus. It would be exciting to have seen Elvis on stage. Did you know they only ever filmed his head and shoulders back then? Apparently, the hip-gyrating was seen as too scandalous.
Do you have any phobias?
SEB: Door hinges. I saw a girl once get her fingers caught in a science door hinge at school. She screamed and I just froze. It was horrible. I’m always careful when I hold doors.
Have you ever stolen anything?
SEB: Whenever I’ve flown business class on British Airways they have these nice mugs with pictures on. I’ve got a full set of those. I’m not sure you’re supposed to take them, though…
What’s been your biggest splurge?
SEB: Our wedding in Italy two years ago. It was beautiful. It wasn’t ostentatious, it was just lovely to do it abroad.
What would you do if you were invisible for the day?
SEB: I’d create mishaps or make it seem like there are ghosts in the room by moving stuff around. Just to freak everyone out.
SOPHIE'S REALITY CHECK
Do you take public transport?
Not often. I used to adore the tube, but not any more. I don’t mind trains. I drive and walk whenever I can. Cabs are my indulgence. I don’t feel guilty, because I see it as a luxury at the end of the night.
Who is the new Home Secretary?
Is that one half of the couple in the Cabinet? I can’t remember. It’s Jacqui Smith
Have you ever worn sunglasses indoors?
Absolutely not. That’s so naff.
How many tattoos do you have?
Just the one. I’m happy with it, but I don’t want any more. I don’t regret it. It didn’t hurt that much. It’s a bit like falling off your bike, it’s a scrape that soon heals.

Tricky in that case. Maybe go for some of their more well known songs as a starting point. Pure Morning, The Bitter End, Every You Every Me, Infra-Red.
Lol, well thanks for that... I'll download those when I can be bothered. Well you like them and you like Sophie and Kylie also, so maybe I will like them?

Wow it's so catchy. I really like it
Don't think much of the video, I don't like the way the lyrics flash up... but whatever, the song is good.
I'm so lucky lucky!
