  1. Definitely don't think it's combined as there are some very big and noticeable differences between the iTunes chart.
  2. Leona is duetting with a contestant... (obviously Louisa considering how much she has spoke of how she looked up to Leona as a kid—she was just 8 when Leona won).
  3. On Apple Music. Same place the chart has always been.
  4. Has no one noticed that Apple Music now has its own separate chart to iTunes? (i.e. not just mirroring the iTunes chart)

Sales info: Adele has already sold 200k+ so far this week, so still averaging above 60k a day: http://www.musicweek.com/news/read/overnig...world-89/063519 - also breaks Oasis' record for fastest to reach a million. 10 days vs. Oasis' 17 days. It seems OCC/MW are having a hard time reporting correct figures for Oasis. In this week's Music Week Magazine they say the record was 11 days for Oasis, but in the article above they correct themselves and say the record is actually 17 days for Oasis. There's a big difference between 11 days and 17 days.... The same way there is a big difference between 764k and 813k. *rolls eyes*. It could have caused problems had Adele taken 12 days to reach a million, but in this instance it doesn't matter!
  6. I don't really know The Pogues song too well which is weird considering I live in the UK, but I never seem to hear it?? I literally just had to listen to it to remind myself of what it sounded like. Maybe I just subconsciously manage to avoid/ignore it every single year it comes back into the charts, whereas I hear Mariah's song hundreds of times every December without fail. Strange. Having said that, I did of course recognise it upon listening ("and the bells are ringing out for Christmas day") Having just re-listened I was shocked to hear the lyric "you cheap lousy fa**ot"... Christmas classic?
  7. Ben is top 5 in albums according to Cowell on X Factor. Will be slightly awkward now if/when it drops.....
  8. Now we got the flavour, the bad behaviour, the rhythm, the melody, the juice for you to savour. Their best :-)

Retweeted by WSTRN that they are number 1 hmmmm. Egg meet face? I can't post links, but check this verified account on Twitter: @JadeAvia
  10. Great sales for Adele. Does anyone follow US charts? If you think what is happening in the UK is crazy, wait until you see the US numbers haha!
  11. Just realised KDA is not on Apple Music, does anyone know why?
  12. JoJo for #1 :P
  13. A shame Real Love collided with Band Aid release week otherwise Jess would be beating Cheryl's record tomorrow. Still, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before she churns out another feature.
  14. So Omen out on Spotify/ iTunes, but not Apple Music. Grrr so incredibly frustrating when they do this. Why can't they just sync Streaming releases

Am I the only one shocked to see Little Mix Black Magic on Radio 2 A-List? It's such a radio disney type song it doesn't seem like it fits with their audience at all. They are in a great position what with it being A-listed on radio 1 and on capital too. Going to be a big hit for them
  16. Well technically Becky snatched that record some time back for Gecko (joint single). Wonder whatever happened to those big plans Will had for Leah anyway.. :(
  17. Predicting #2. People underestimating the combo of Capital + Radio 1 A-list support (prior to release) + two pop fan bases. DO NOT mention Shakira/RiRi as that song was awful :D Plus Rita is on The Voice. Even without a performance, there's still the opportunity for the song to receive some airtime on the show.

I guess airplay is also a strong consideration. Did "I'm Yours" top the airplay charts? I assume so to be able to rack up those sales!

Wow, that's astonishing re Azealia Banks. I'm a massive fan of 212 and know it's really popular in the clubs, but never knew it had sold as much as 440,000...I thought it was more an "underground hit". Paper Planes is another surprise, that song was EVERYWHERE, I assumed charted higher! Very interesting. I I personally would go for sales, based on this list. So many good, popular songs that charted poorly due to poor scheduling or, in Adele's case, a lack of effort

Hi all, I am still relatively new here so hope I am posting this correctly! Anyways, I was in the supermarket the other day and I lost count as to how many times I saw the term "hit single" plastered on the front of cds as nothing more than marketing tactics. I then saw a topic on here just now which lead me to think - what actually is a "hit" and how do we determine what qualifies as one? There are a few definitions online that refer to a "popular song" or "successful song"..But they are very vague, popular/ successful in what sense? I think during the Top of the Pops era it was easy to assume all top 20 songs were hits, but I think over time this was narrowed down to the top 10, and even number ones in some cases. But with that said, there are numerous songs that have not had the best chart peak (e.g. "Set Fire to The Rain" and "I'm Yours") but were still being able to outsell a chunk of no. 1 singles. Similarly, singles like "Single Ladies" were huge phenomenons, but again didn't even make the top 5. Other songs were "popular" for a week or 2 and peaked in the top 3 and then dropped like a rock (Union J spring to mind but I know there are loads!) I just wanted to know your thoughts on what you consider/ or think we should consider most when determining a hit single? Do the phrases "top 10" and "number 1" receive too much praise these days, when in actual fact neither tell us much at all in terms of how popular (sales) a single has been! I would also be curious to see, if anyone has the data, a list of best selling singles that didn't reach the top 10, and a list showing the best selling that didn't reach top 20. I'm aware "Set Fire to the Rain" and "I'm Yours" are the two best selling that didn't reach top 10, but unaware of any others? :D
  21. I tried to get. Really, I did. But, I just don't get it? Feel left out though, as clearly I am in a minority! Would have freaked if it had been Lauryn
