Radio 1 Discussion 2015, Part I
Didn't think too much of that 'Tuesday' track, heard Greg play is last night. Not all TOTD tend to make the playlist, it's a good way of trying them out with the audience before adding them.

Station Charts - 26/1/15 (From Radiomonitor)
Proving Heart love playing the same 'old' track aswell as current ones when they are making their Top 30 most played tracks! It's great they play classic stuff but at least play some different ones, it's meant to be 'more music variety', it's anything but that in my opinion.

Yea they play listed Lion Babe's 'Jump Hi' I think it's great they still support Foo Fighters given they've been around a long time now. Looking back they play listed U2 right the way up until 2009. 2009 did seem to be a turning point on the playlist though, this was the final year some of the older acts like stopped being played. I was disanointed when Keane didn't get play listed in 2012 when Radio 1 had always supported them heavily from the beginning.

Poll : Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do
Yea will be an easy number 1 and the first to topple Mark Ronson I suspect.

Radio 1 Discussion 2015, Part I
Yea I enjoyed hearing The Kooks last year. 2006 was their big year and what a good Summer that was. I think Radio 1 eventually realised they made a mistake not play listing 'Moves Like Jagger' and it was a real grower, this is the reason I think they play it lots now to almost make up for it. Before that track came out I think Maroon 5 were considered not relevant anymore as they hadn't had a big hit for a while but that track completely reinvigorated them and made them relevant again. Heard Grimmy play Calvin 'RTeady For The Weekend' earlier which I hadn't heard on Radio 1 for a while. Coldplay 'Paradise' is another fav classic which I don't mind hearing. I think 'Viva La Vida' still gets the odd airing. I think there may be two lists, one for old classics and one for more recent ones that normally get played as the second track after the news or 2nd on the hour after an A Lister is played. That seems to have been the system for many years with classics ideally not going back more than 5/6 years with the odd exception. Some shows seem to play a lot of classics from one year I've noticed also.

Going back to Radio 1s 'classic' track they play, they have always played the same ones. I remember at the beginning of the 00s Robbie's Rock DJ was used as a classic even up to 2005/6, another popular one was NORE 'Nothing'. To be fair most of the current 'classics' I quite like, Owl City 'Fireflies' & Foster The People 'Pumped Up Kicks' are other regulars. I think which ones get picked is simply down to the producers who are bound to have their favs. But I agree there should be a bigger list and more tracks that didn't make the A List etc. What's interesting is 'Moves Like Jagger' is a classic but it was never playlisted at the time.
