Owl City; Mathew Koma (Heaven, London: 25th Oct 2012) The Hoosiers; The Carnabies (O2 Islington, London: 2nd Dec 2013) Clean Bandit; Years Away (Great Hall, Exeter: 26th Oct 2014) Backbeat Soundsystem/ Imperial Leisure; Joe Biddle (The Hub, Plymouth: 12th Dec 2014) Muse; Marmozets/ Moriarty (Great Hall, Exeter: 20th March 2015) Coldplay; Reef/ Lavana La Havas (Wembley Stadium, London: 16th June 2016) The Hoosiers (2nd time); [No support] (The Watering Hole, Perranporth, Cornwall: 2nd July 2016) Against The Current; As It Is/ Beach Weather (Shepherd's Bush Empire, London: 30th September 2016) Bastille; Rationale (The Eden Project, Cornwall [Eden Sessions]: 15th June 2017) Meadowlark; Martyn Crocker (The Junction, Plymouth: 11th October 2017) PVRIS; COIN, Tyne (O2 Academy, Bristol: 22nd November 2017) Paramore; MewithoutYou (Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff: 11th Jan 2018) Bjork; Klein, Lanark Artefax (The Eden Project, Cornwall [Eden Sessions]: 7th July 2018) Death Cab For Cutie; The Beths (O2 Academy, Bristol: 30th January 2019) The Midnight; Savior Adore (Scala, London: 6th March 2019) Planned: Lights; TBC (Thelka, Bristol: 27th May 2019) The Midnight; TBC (Roundhouse, London: 12th Nov 2019) Actually getting round to talking about this here. The Midnight live was actually one of the best experiences... ever. The saxophonist was insane (like, every time he started playing I was in awe), the vocals were beautiful, Tyler sounds just as good live as in studio, Nikki Flores joined for Jason and a couple of others, the live electronic stuff was really cool, really interested in seeing bands translate electronic stuff into a live setting and they did it so well, live drum triggers, launchpads, keyboards, the works. Savoir Adore were fantastic support and also had a great setup. Also 2 BJSC entries in one concert! Gloria was ridiculously amazing to hear live. Nearly 3 but they didn't play The Years, understand why they didn't because it's a long one as much as I love it and they'd probably have had to sacrifice a song to fit it in. The main ones missing were The Years and Lightyears but other than that they played a perfect set. (here for details) Idk I think out of this incredible list of concerts it's near the top as one of my favourites. So much so that when they said they'd be back in November I went and got tickets for them again the following day- I've never done that before, usually as much as I love the experience I feel like there are so many artists I want to see and when I've seen them once that's a tick off the list- not that I wouldn't like to see them again but the money/ travel for a gig can be tough to do too much of. In this case I just want to see them again already. Got a few clips on my phone (not too many and mostly short ones bc I prefer to be in the moment/ don't like holding a phone up the whole time) but the quality was surprisingly good (on my previous phones the audio would just be garbled) and I still get chills watching some of them back. Also discovered a great band for support and the fact Tyler Lyle does solo stuff ( :o ) because he did a solo song The Midnight had remixed which I wasn't aware of since the remix wasn't on streaming services (found it on Bandcamp and bought it x).

They played French Class live! One of the tracks I know best, of course the entry helped too. x

I really like HalfNoise actually. Zack has a really nice voice and it's an interesting direction, nice dreamy sound and would love to see some of this influence in Paramore music. I know he rejoined for AL but it was only really during recording (iirc) so he doesn't have as many writing credits as Taylor and Hayley. I really should listen to HalfNoise more tbh.
  4. You're disowned. x Told You So is so good, I ADORE the guitar line in that. The rhythm is so interesting in that song, the drum pattern is so cool with the starts and stops. It has a real funky feel which maybe I've always had a thing for and you haven't idk which is fair enough but u still wrong. x You still proved my point tho- you didn't give the album as much of a chance as you might've because of a single which is still just 1/12 of the album (or even 2/12 if you're half including Hard Times). I don't think singles should hold that much power. Each to their own but I think you just don't like change. xx It's not the Paramore I fell in love with either and I've said it before in many ways I want another RIOT! too but all artists have to change and the music they make will only be good if they're making what they're interested in. I'm not going to compare myself directly to Paramore because I'm not on their level haha but 3 years ago I was making music with acoustic guitars with a vague idea that I wanted to be in a traditional setup (guitar, bass, drums) band- also dabbled in that a bit as a vocalist. Now after lots of experimentation I make heavy screwed up industrial/ electronic stuff with a rocky influence (or synthwave stuff depending on my mood x) and find that the idea of being restricted to those sounds (band setup or acoustic) wouldn't stay interesting for me. Point is if you're not inspired to make it, it won't be good if you do.

  6. Iz I get where you're coming from, I miss their old sound too but do you think it might just be because Hard Times was the lead single and that set the tone a bit for you? No Friend and Tell Me How are examples that still really deliver in terms of lyrical and musical cohesivity. Personally I think Hard Times is great but then I'm a sucker for juxtaposed emotions in lyrics and music. Fake Happy is such an amazing track, Rose Coloured Boy/ Told You So are bops, 26 just gets me in a The Only Exception kind of way only more mature, Tell Me How is also an emotional killer. AL isn't my favourite from them but I think it was the perfect album for them to release in 2017 at that stage in their career. Interestingly No Friend really grew on me, especially after getting into mewithoutyou. I love the bassline and the emotion in Aaron's voice, it's up there with one of my favourites on the album having at first being one I was a bit wtf over, seeing it live helped a lot too.
  7. They could go anywhere really, not going to lie I miss their RIOT!/ Brand New Eyes sound but I guess in some ways it was of its time. After Laughter was incredible and they've got to make what feels natural to them now, would be cool to see something heavier though, and I don't necessarily mean guitars- heavy sounding/ experimental synths would do. After Laughter was more poppy overall but it was still experimental for them in some ways with tracks like No Friend. Half expecting them to go even more poppy, half expecting a complete diversion into experimental who knows what or maybe even a return to roots. Keeping an eye on HalfNoise as well could indicate what Zack's influence might be in terms of writing because he only rejoined the band during the production of AL.
  8. Aw this is cool, automatically my favourite artist forum already. x
  9. Will be there in a bit.
  10. Nah I wanted the full version, it's best that way.

Oops of course- thanks will update. You here for any of the nest Eden sessions? :o
  12. Omg rip 2 18s *.* - still thanku. Yeah I actually thought it'd still probably Q anyway, knew it wouldn't be for everyone but definitely thought I'd pick up a few more points, was unpleasantly surprised to see it so low down on the spreadsheet. :( Ah I wouldn't worry I'm back in this month which gives me plenty of time to get back into the contest for the foreseeable future, plus I've entered every one since 84 now so it's be a shame to kill that record. Hopefully I'll be keeping the quality up too, glad you've been enjoying my entries so much! :o
  13. Jason Derulo and singers with a similar tone, it's ridiculously stylised and fake and I just hate it. Anyone that sounds like they're trying to show off "how good their voice is" when they sing which can include oversinging (already mentioned). It just kills songs and only screams that the singer has a massive ego and the song is only there as a vehicle for them showing off their "amazing" voice, Jessie J is of course a prime example. There's a time an a place for vocal acrobatics *used sparsely* at the right moments because that way it's actually impressive, people want dynamic range and progression throughout a song, not full intensity the whole time. If a singer's trying to show off their voice the whole time it'll 1: mean that it's not a special moment since it's happening throughout the song 2: it makes it sound like they're overcompensating not having a very interesting tone by overstylising their singing rather than just singing honestly and 3: they're overpowering the rest of the song and making it solely about the singing when vocals are - while an important aspect - still just one aspect. Unless it's acapella or karaoke the vocals should somewhat blend with the mix, not sit above it.
  14. Entered a banger. It is going to be my longest entry to date though now and it's your fault BJSC. x

Aww I'll miss it too. x Sad to go in many ways but I really wasn't a very proactive mod recently and there's not much point having my name next to a forum if I'm not there all that much. To be honest most of the time I wasn't sure what to do when there wasn't a UP or Nuggets because general discussion is just new releases, which is fine but unless there were reports to deal with I didn't feel any need to intervene as a mod. Also generating discussion outside of those threads seemed unnecessary because discussing new music is the focus of the forum, maybe my approach was wrong idk. I've been pretty busy IRL too, in my final year at uni and working part time (or more, depending on the week). I'm not even all that active on Buzzjack in general, I've felt a bit distant from the site recently. I'm sure I will get more into it again- I get phases where I'm more into posting than others. Anyhows congrats Liam, sad to see Cameron go (thought you'd be in pop forever :o ) and of course wishing all the best to my former co-mods Lindsey and Seven, honestly you'll do fine without me. I know it'll be hard but struggle on, if you ever need my invaluable advice you can always PM me. xxx
  16. ^Thanks so much btw Bré, good to remember the recent successes haha. Let's retrospectively do this: The Soft Moon - Burn tIVB9x-HDzg Banging industrial track here, really is the kind of stuff I'm increasingly listening to more and more, I love the increasing intensity on this, the fuzzy distortion, the "heavy" synths. It has a really dark feel and I love the angry yet sort of reserved/ smooth vocal in this too. Fantastic track and I'm glad Bré (if no one else) really appreciated this too. x --- Got to be honest I was a bit salty about my DNQ- well maybe salty is the wrong word, more like it made me really apathetic towards the contest. I really loved my track, thought it'd at least Q and the fact it could've been an AQ didn't help my bitterness. x In fact I almost didn't vote, wasn't a huge fan of my semi overall (of course there were some bangers but still) and not been into BJSC as much as I used to be recently so I didn't even care about the potential of a month ban. Fortunately because the voting window was pretty long I just got in the mood for listening one evening and voted, found some great tracks so was probably worth it aha. Think I will enter next month but it's almost definitely going to be a IDGAF entry. Probably an obscenely long #longsongbloc or something.
  17. My 18 won!!!!! Well done Jake, well deserved. Loved Tokyo, I was a huge fan of "Bigger Than Us" and a couple other White Lies tracks (Death was a good one too) but I hadn't listened to them for YEARS. Was great to rediscover them. Loved your hosting so much Ducky, please host more things or if not that post more (lol take ur own advice Jacob where actually are you these days do u even exist anymore ur so irrelevant). I love your humour, you turned the lil errors in the semi into a massively entertaining read, while using a completely new system as well. Had some of my favourite results thread(s) reads in this contest.

They did! Just before the encore. Was really happy they played that one, was the first song I learnt to play on guitar (a basic version ofc but still). I love Setlist.fm, you can see the full list here: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/death-cab-fo...nd-395dd93.html "I Will Possess Your Heart" was such a moment too, so good. For "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" Ben came out on his own for the encore and played it on his own on an acoustic. It's a good venue, I'd already seen PVRIS there, has a good feel to it. I live in Cornwall and often Bristol is the closest place bands/ artists tour to for me, for PVRIS I took the night train (bad idea, was hell- had a change and I didn't get an actual sleeping area thing bc money so got almost no sleep and felt like death), this time I just got a Premier Inn, wasn't too pricey and fortunately I had a free day the day after to get back.
  19. Would love to but I'm working. :(

Update! :o Owl City; Mathew Koma (Heaven, London: 25th Oct 2012) The Hoosiers; The Carnabies (O2 Islington, London: 2nd Dec 2013) Clean Bandit; Years Away (Great Hall, Exeter: 26th Oct 2014) Backbeat Soundsystem/ Imperial Leisure; Joe Biddle (The Hub, Plymouth: 12th Dec 2014) Muse; Marmozets/ Moriarty (Great Hall, Exeter: 20th March 2015) Coldplay; Reef/ Lavana La Havas (Wembley Stadium, London: 16th June 2016) The Hoosiers (2nd time); [No support] (The Watering Hole, Perranporth, Cornwall: 2nd July 2016) Against The Current; As It Is/ Beach Weather (Shepherd's Bush Empire, London: 30th September 2016) Bastille; Rationale (The Eden Project, Cornwall [Eden Sessions]: 15th June 2017) Meadowlark; Martyn Crocker (The Junction, Plymouth: 11th October 2017) PVRIS; COIN, Tyne (O2 Academy, Bristol: 22nd November 2017) Paramore; MewithoutYou (Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff: 11th Jan 2018) Bjork; Klein, Lanark Artefax (The Eden Project, Cornwall [Eden Sessions]: 7th July 2018) Death Cab For Cutie; The Beths (O2 Academy, Bristol: 30th January 2019) As a fan for 7 years, loved it, got to be front row and they played plenty of faves, including finishing with Transatlanticism which made my life. x
  21. Voted via the google form because I made an actual effort to try out the new system unlike certain site executives thinking they're above it all.
  22. You'd better manipulate things to make sure I Q for that comment.
  23. Noooo someone else enter right now.
  24. Entered! Found an absolute banger but I've gotta say I really want that AQ now haha.
  25. Just thinking about what to confirm, wonder if I can get my AQ. :o
