Congrats on a 1st time winner Lex! Insane how close that was, I was swapping FSR around in my higher points for ages on Saturday evening so I could've easily given it 1 more, pretty much anyone could have tbf but it's still weird to think about- absolutely loved FSR's song so happy to have seen it do so well!
Great hosting Erik, enjoyed this contest (despite my slightly disastrous result x), stepping my game up next contest.

Um. Top 10 is insanely high considering there's usually approx 60 entrants each contest and around 40 finalists, why do you always set yourself up to underperform in your own eyes? Would you be happy if you came in at #2? :lol:If I can get top 10 then I guess that’s goodI mean it could well go top 10 tbf, you've got a good song this month.

Aelandor came last in the semi, which is a first for me actually! Even during my tragic early DNQing days I never came dead last. Received 21 points though so at least it wasn't anywhere near the dreaded unattainable 0.
Absolutely undeserved of course, Esperanza's beauty wasn't appreciated and BJSC is just wrong about most things
especially considering some of the awful bland trash that sailed through, not exclusively in this contest either. Thanks for the vocal support though from the people that did like it, you're the best. :heart:Is okay though, I just tend to enter what I'm obsessed with and I was fully aware this would probably DNQ, might send a protest entry next month, might be fun, we'll see. x

Rude tbh, I can unequivocally say that my entry was in no way shape or form the worst in the semi, if nothing else (though there is a lot else because it's a BANGER) it stood out so much from the overreaching sea of blandness that made up lots of other songs (some of which seem to be drifting through...).SF2 :: AELANDOR :: (30th :: 21 pts)Like honestly I didn't expect to get through when I entered it (not because of the quality but because that kind of thing doesn't really suit the collective BJSC taste) but last is a bit ridic. x

Oh no. :oWill run a semi 1 plug session tonight around 8pm (probably closer to 8:30 as usual but be there by 8 to make sure you don't miss anything etc.), provided some people show up for it of course xedit: well no one did show up as of 8:07pm oops ~ I guess not tonight then, shall perhaps try again on Thursday?
I couldn't make yesterday but I'm in semi 2 anyway and was hoping that'd be Thursday- was going to offer to host as well.

BJSC 103 // Moriaty - Esperanza

Aelandor's entry to BJSC 103 is "Esperanza" by blues/ garage/ heavy rock band Moriaty! I first heard them when I saw them live supporting Muse (along with The Marmozets- what a gig that was *.*) and they really were phenomenal. They're a Devon based band that Chris (the bassist from Muse) found online and obviously invited to support them in Exeter. I never got round to collecting/ listening to their music though until a few weeks ago and I can see why Muse liked them, a bassline like the one in "Esperanza" really reminds me of Origin Of Symmetry/ Absolution era Muse.
This banging tune features the aforementioned amazing bassline, rapping in the first verse, distorted vocals, Spanish in the chorus and a fantastic lil spoken word intro that got me into the song originally. Honestly no idea if people will like this but don't mind too much how it does (plz let me qualify x).
Insanely enough, these guys are a two piece. No idea how they manage to make this sound. :o

for your points, and glad you commiseration people enjoyed the song! Was happy to come 24th, unique result for Aelandor and was nice to not be in the 30s!
Next month we'll be returning to our more rocky roots with an absolute banger. Slightly reminiscent of early Muse perhaps. Lots of attitude, great grungey, garagey, blues rock sound. Fully accepting the possibility of a DNQ with it if I don't get a good semi because BJSC is hardly the crowd but I know for a fact some of you will love it. x

Arrgh I missed following it live (didn't have the best connection + I was busy) but just spent around an hour fully catching up. I'm happy with 24th, first time I've been in the 21-30 bracket actually so nice to have something new in my stats, decent result too.

It looks like I picked up a lot of the trickle points which I kind of expected might happen.
Gutted for PVRIS, deserved so much better, I would've 18'd it but I demoted it to 13 because I already knew it so well (and tbh that's a much smaller demotion than I usually make in these situations, it's that good). Very decent winner, was in my commiserations for both the semi and final funnily enough but good winner either way! Was great to see Unovia and Ashton do so well and of course my 18- Klum Republic. I wasn't expecting it to do that well at all so top 10 is amazing.
Loved the hosting Phil, thanks for running it so well! I thought the semi position reveal worked really well too, they don't give that much away, there's often deviation and if there is correlation you can see it in the votes already as they're being revealed. Tbh I didn't keep all of them in mind as I kept reading anyway. They're just interesting and add tension, and they're rarely 100% accurate. I mean, I came 15th in the semi this time so I'd have been projected roughly at 30/ 31. And of course there's that time I came 4th in the semi and dropped to 37th in the final. #notbitter

A real shame about Aesthetica, being so close. Was such a good song and I don't usually like a lot of K-pop. Singapurer too of course, although I didn't necessarily expect that to get through- not that it was a long way off.
I was so close to voting for yours, it just got pushed out unfortunately (I had it in my commiserations)- would've liked to have seen it Q so regretting not voting for it now. :(Thanks NocheLuna, Snake and Johnpopchartfreak for the remaining points for 'Catalina'! Not many voters then but at least got a 12 and a 10 among the few who did (Lotunia's strong support for us this year so far is not going unnoticed :wub:)
