Might actually show up to the other semi for once. I'd do Thursday for semi 2 but I only get home at around 8pm on Thursdays so it'd end up being pretty late- if anyone else wants to host earlier plz do (and I'll be there after a few songs) but if there's no one else I could do a late session.

I can do both/ either so that's great for me! If you did host today Dan which semi would you do and what kind of time would you start?

    Are we having plug sessions?
  5. BJSC 102 // Timecop1983 - Girl (Feat. Seawaves) xveBtWwtgCM Like I mentioned in the reveal thread, I've been really really getting into The Midnight and I would've entered "The Years (Prologue)" had it not been entered in BJSC 69 and came 2nd, or perhaps "Crystalline" or maybe even "River Of Darkness (Feat Timecop1983)". :o :o :o The Midnight got me into this whole retro synthy sound, and while I initially found "Jason (feat. Nikki Flores)" through Masquerades last year (lovely lovely song, gave it +15), I never listened to any more of their music until a small YouTuber I watch, Tom L J White (great music review channel, 10/10 recommend, made some amazing discoveries through this guy) did a review of The Midnight's EP "Nocturnal", and he reminded me of their existance, following that I went on a Midnight binge and now I have their entire discography. The only thing is with the Midnight, people know them in BJSC, they did so well already. It wouldn't be """my""" discovery for you guys and I was very aware of a possible veto. I was stuck for entries really this month and after watching the entirety of "Stranger Things" over the past few weeks I'd started hearing this retro sounding synthwave music everywhere again and was absolutely living for it as the soundtrack to an amazing show. And what do you know, Timecop1983 has made music that was featured in Stranger Things episodes, that was the music giving me all the #feels. Here it is: DNwX1UbVUnU Unlike The Midnight, Timecop don't have a vocalist, they usually make instrumental tracks but they occasionally feature vocalists. While I love listening to the instrumentals myself, for a standout track to enter to BJSC (certainly in this genre) I wanted one with vocals really. I adore the dreamy, nostalgic (yet not?), lovely bubbly sound to "Girl" and the vocals from Seawaves are just the cherry on top, they blend perfectly with the track and I really think this collab was a match made in heaven. I hope you guys enjoy this track as much as I have and go check out New Retro Wave, it's the best thing ever!

A combination of thing- getting obsessed with The Midnight (but being unable to enter them because of their previous top 3 BJSC- plus The Years is my fave anyway) and falling in love with that retro synthwave sound generally, watching all of Stranger Things (Timecop1983 music has been used in Stranger Things! They mostly do instrumental unless they feature- so emotional.) and searching for that kind of music- browsing the New Retro Wave channel etc.
  7. Good to have them back, as ever! Decent song (by their standards) on first listen and loving the 80s style video, can't wait to have another full album from Muse.
  8. Paradox games are all discounted on Steam atm! Up to 75% for some of them.

Based on recent past performance, statistically speaking, that seems unlikely. x

If people live in even a moderately big city I can see how, I have to travel most of the time but if I lived in London or something it'd be an evening out rather than an all day/ 2 day trip, easily doable once a week really even if you did work a busy job- Friday/ Saturday evenings etc (although realistically more like an average of once a month because of cost). As for the cost, obviously there are lots of variables here but- the ticket and travel is the only real cost for me (bc I don't drink at venues) so it could work out the same as or not a lot more than any standard evening out at a pub, particularly if eating out or something like that, depending on the artist. Sure, the massive ones can be Β£50-Β£60 but even moderately big bands like PVRIS were I think Β£20 or something, I paid more for the train there than I did for the ticket.

Meadowlark; Martyn Crocker (The Junction, Plymouth: 11th October 2017) PVRIS; COIN, Tyne (O2 Academy, Bristol: 22nd November 2017) Paramore; MewithoutYou (Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff: 11th Jan 2018) Updating my list :o Sadly not got any planned right now but I expect I'll probably get 2 or 3 in before the year's out.
  12. Ooo a re-entry, I think it's the first in several months.
  13. BrΓ© can I has my points plz?
  14. Never looked at Pro Tools myself, although I've heard good things. I tried a demo of Reason but most of my experience has been with Ableton, followed by Logic. Just spending time messing about with it can teach you as hell of a lot, I learnt loads about Ableton just recording audio covers a few years back and trying out mixing (though I'm nowhere near professional don't get me wrong x). Aw, but they don't have to sound professional to sound good and they'll sound more professional if you practice. I know it's hard to find time but it's so fun (for me) once you get beyond an empty project and you've got the beginnings of a project, or even just a stupid lil 15 second loop. I just hate starting from scratch.
  15. As a music student I spend a fair bit of time working in DAWs (see thread title, musicy software basically), partly for my uni work, partly for fun- was wondering if anyone else here used them much at all (hi Blake and Dan). I have Logic X but tend to use Ableton for most things, I hear good things about other DAWs but they're all I need really, I love the session view/ live aspect to it and the arrangement view is as good as any other, I like how easy it is to cut up clips, zoom in onto clips, drag and replace etc. Plus the plugins and packs are the best. I was going to make this a really long opening paragraph but I don't want to ramble on about the benefits of automation for pages, I'm just hoping there's room for discussion around this topic for anyone else who makes music or wants to! I'm slowly getting more and more into the production side of things after favouring recording acoustically for a long time, and don't get me wrong I still like to do that and still play instruments a lot, but I'm starting to become fascinated by details I never really paid a huge amount of attention to before. The amount of work that goes into a short 10 second clip leading up to a drop for example is staggering- the layering, compression and automation among other things, soo that's what I'm focussing on at the moment. Also I'm developing an appreciation for weird glitchy things. In news, Ableton Live 10 was released today (:o !) and for anyone who bought Live 9 moderately recently (as I have because it took me forever to upgrade from Live 8 x) there's a free upgrade to 10- I'm downloading it rn. As a Ableton user primarily I'm very excited to see new features, they tend to only release a brand new version (not including updates) every few years so I'm expecting the aesthetic to be updated (least important thing but it's pretty), some new core packs and maybe a few more built in functions. So this is a space to talk about anything music production or recording related really, so news on software releases, any music tech you might have, external plug ins, favourite software. Whether you've done a lot of it, you're interested in starting (I can recommend a few good free programs) or just want to know a bit more about something plz post, would love to chat about it/ share ideas.
  16. Flopped at 34th oops, one step closer to fulfilling my aim of hitting all the positions in the 30s at least twice. xx Still absolutely obsessed with this song so #noregrets. Glad I made a few fans though and happy to have qualified! Hoping this will be a good year for us. :o

  18. Yasss Mattias, thank you for the 18- and Harvey for the 11. Glad you both liked it so much.
  19. Yeah amazing presentation Leww thanks so much for hosting (again). ^_^
  20. Congrats Phil! Glad to see a song I really liked (and pointed!) at the top. ^_^ Also congrats to Taahino on your first top 10 (top 3 nonetheless) FINALLY, even though I wasn't so down with this entry soz. x
  21. Omg noo St. Burbia. :(
  22. I guess I was lucky to qualify. Disappointing but tbh idk why I should ever expect anything other than a result in the 30s/ bottom 10, it's where most of my entries go if they do qualify. #codymomentbutactuallybackedupbystats St. Burbia for the win plz, or Lotunia, Niceland or Trifoski.
  23. Thanks Leonardo!
  24. Ffs even Iz has overtaken me now, I thought I'd get around #20. BJSC displaying its blatant lack of taste again. (except for the current top 5 which are all pretty good x)
  25. Thanks Seven and Beaver! And bc Meekul put 3 twice I think it's only fair we both get 3 points. xx
