Nuggets 9 - RESULTS
Oh noo Cal finished bottom, even more guilty I didn't vote for it now, was a really good song. I just ADORE the "when you go you go you go, I'm a sunless sky" parts and the bass riff. <3

What Comes Around was really good! Just missed my votes. I know it's not much use now but it's really grown on me over the last day or so. </3

How many laptops have you had?
Got a really nice desktop, paid a fair bit for it initially but it's lasted 3 and a half years so far and shows no sign of slowing down. Will need to replace the graphics card at some point, maybe in a year or so but beyond that I can see this thing lasting for another good 5 years minimum. I've got dual screens and I love them, it also functions as my "console" basically because I can run pretty much any game you can throw at it smoothly. Had my own laptop once and I was going to have it at the same time as my current desktop but about a month before I built the desktop it fell of my desk while charging (I was moving a box which yanked the cable) and the charger dug into the power button area, forever killing it. I recovered the hard disk but beyond that it wasn't worth fixing, was already slowing down and Iz had sold it on to me in the first place. The main advantage of a laptop is obviously the portability which would be useful if I was going away somewhere for a couple of days or more, or for uni. I'm thinking of getting a MacBook both for uni/ music reasons and for the portability reason to go alongside my desktop (will be extremely useful for when I travel - I just use my tablet at the moment which is functional for most but not all things, particularly uni related stuff) but MacBooks are ridiculously expensive so I'm still in the "thinking about it" stage. So the answer is 1 if we're strictly talking about laptops and it wasn't even new. Before my current one I had a shared desktop that I had a stake in, bought with both my brothers when we were kids (well I was 13, didn't get my own personal computer until like 17 haha although because everyone else got laptops before me I was the only one still using the old desktop for a while) but before that it was just family desktops. Comfy spinny chairs are the answer. x Also re browsing in bed that's what iPads are for m8. They're also not heat machines like laptops, I find that tablets are just as functional as laptops for general browsing, watching videos etc with the slight disadvantage of not having an actual keyboard to type quickly with and without certain programs of course.

Aelandor National Thread
Our Q streak is dead! :( "Slow Days" came 21st in the semi final, a mere 4 points off qualifying. To be fair, I didn't expect to qualify- I actually submitted this in the last few minutes before the confirmations closed because I only just realised it was the deadline and I just picked a song I'd really been getting into so I'm glad it was that close! Thanks for all the points and Aelandor will be back in full force for BJSC 100 (once I decide what I'm sending- it'll be good though x).

Old console games that you still play
Not all strictly console games (I've always primarily been a PC gamer although I've got a few console games now- didn't have a console until well into my teens though) but I played A Bugs Life: Action Game to death when I was little. LEGO island was amazing too. Lots of educational games as well (that were more fun than educational at times oops) but I don't remember all their names. Star Wars: Jedi Knight Outcast was/ is so so good as well as Star Wars: Battlefront II (the original Lucas Arts game, not the extortionate remake that doesn't tell anyone it's a remake. ) Total Annihilation Kingdoms and Star Trek: Armada II were my introduction to RTS games (they're AMAZING) and later the fantastic Lord Of The Rings Battle For Middle Earth and the even better sequel/ expansion (BFME II + BFME II: The Rise Of The Witchking). I've played a lot of older games more recently such as Half Life and the like. Tbh yes, and that's not just seeing things through rose tinted glasses. Older games didn't have to always be online and 4 player split screen on consoles was common. Amongst that and the ridiculous hiking of prices for new releases and more focus on pretty shiny graphics and rehashing the same game to death (*cough* COD *cough* FIFA) rather than story and competent game-play with a decent amount of content. Hell, these days lots of games aren't really finished when they're released and instead of patches being released to fix issues you have to BUY DLCs to fix the issues. #notall

Honestly didn't think I'd have time earlier this evening (I'd accepted that I'd take a late voter penalty) but I'm coming towards the end of a listen through now, will vote shortly!

Introducing BJSC 99 // Sœur - Slow Days Our first self recycle (not including BJ Fest x)! Slow Days is from Sœur's EP "What Separates Us" (album art was my avatar for a while) which came out after I entered them into BJSC 89. I was kinda rushed at the deadline after being away so in retrospect I maybe should've entered "No Fire" or "Put You On" but I think Slow Days (like the band) is an underrated gem. It starts slow and builds amazingly well throughout the song. Not sure if this'll qualify, Sœur did get me my first qualifier but it was a narrow Q and Pass Out was a bit more accessible perhaps, that said not all hope is lost- I've still got a Q streak to maintain and I can think of a few people who could well be into this. x

BJSC 98: FINALS
Thanks for hosting so well Leonardo! Cheers for the 18 Summercia as well, I gave yours 12 in the semi so it's just a shame you didn't get through. :o Thanks for all the other points too but it looks like I hugely underperformed based on most predictions, was hoping for a possible top 10 but looks like I missed the 20s. Don't quite get the winner, it's a *nice* song but I don't see how it's such a runaway winner, but congrats nonetheless Mdh, must be great to win for the first time- especially after coming 2nd before!

Owl City - Cinematic
I was actually hoping for more of that kind of sound, I'd love to hear some more Sky Sailing esque stuff. Just heard Clap Your Hands and tbh I was hoping he'd outgrown that super overproduced pop sound (especially after the year's break from OC to work on scores), it worked in certain instances on Mobile Orchestra but personally I'd love to hear him either play around with a guitar sound (acoustic or rocky) or hear something more similar to ATBAB or before- not that I want him to regress but it's starting to feel like he's pigeon-holing himself into that kind of sound, it started on TMS and appeared a lot on MO and the singles in between. Of course he still comes out with different stuff like This Isn't The End and ofc Not All Heroes Wear capes (to name a couple) but surely he can do so much more with his sound. Matt Thiessen co-wrote Clap Your Hands as well apparently, one of my favourite songwriters (and leads for a favourite band), though I suppose it's adapted for that sound. I mean it's not a bad song but it's not that interesting for OC either. Hoping it's a residual of his older sound (seeing as it looks like it's an older song that's only just been released) and we'll get something fresh for the new album. Already heard Waving Through A Window and I was a fan of that one. x ---- Note: I've renamed the thread so all new/ upcoming Owl City discussion can be in here.
