  1. Wow, I can't believe of all the results threads to miss live, it was this one. I just remembered before going to bed "oh damn it might've been results this evening, I'd better have a quick look." First of all, this has been one of my favourite contests in a while, thanks Kath for the host and well done on entry picks to everyone! There were a fair few that didn't make my votes that would've in other contests. Congrats to Cadelicia- a cracking song that ofc made my votes, very catchy and a deserving winner. So so happy to see Fljótavík in 2nd, obviously I was hoping it'd win, it really connected with me and glad to see it did with so many other. It's got to the point where when I'm listening to it I mouth/ say the spoken word (if I'm alone at least  ), it's hypnotic. As for my entry, I genuinely expected 30th or something, tbh I was 50/50 on whether it would even qualify, though the predictions were generally good. I didn't even make it into any of the higher or even middle odds- at least not the ones I saw, when I was reading through the early pages I couldn't believe I was top 10 and thought it'd fizzle out and the votes would dry up. So so happy to be 7th, (stats time xx) an unique position and believe it or not, my first top 10 since "Gloria" came 2nd in December 2018, despite entering all but 3 contests since then- as Bré says this is also my 3rd top 10 which makes it now my 3rd highest position (after The Midnight in 2nd and Lights in 5th) in 71 entries. Thanks for all the votes but especially all the 18s/ other medal positions, glad you liked "A Gallant Gentleman" as much as I did, it has a great emotional build despite having no lyrics, in a way only the best instrumentals can. I had it as a potential since probably May or June. For me it's the choir after the slow build that gives it that extra lift, taking it from a great track to an outstanding one in my eyes.
  2. No probs! I usually convert it after Dan posts the Spotify playlist (thanks Dan!), I just need to remember to do it sooner most contests.
  3. 👀👀👀👀👀 looking at some of the qualifiers and seriously questioning everyone's sanity. Clearly the wrong audience, absolutely robbed, too good for BJSC etc. I'll be back next month with a long post-rock song, you're welcome. x
  4. Ok, another Semi 2 listen through upcoming, I'm going with quite an early start, 6:45pm in the Buzzjack Discord server: https://discord.gg/sTjnfHs6 I'll be streaming my Chrome Browser with the YouTube playlist directly so all you need to do is join the voice chat "Listen-n-play", which which will mute you by default, and watch my stream (it'll have a nice red Live button).
  5. Could go with tomorrow (Friday) evening?
  6. Ahh damn I was out this evening, missed the semi 2 listenthrough. :nocheer: Might have to do another, bring back Discord listenthroughs  (I'd stream directly from Chrome this time, should work better than the YouTube plugin.)

Watched the first two episodes. Loved the "Anyone Who Knows What Love Is" Easter egg in the first one. Joan is Awful was pretty solid. I was trying to figure out what was Black Mirror about it,
  9. Congrats to St. Burbia on the win, best entry from you for a while! Glad to see it was so well received broadly. Great to see The Cat Empire do so well for Séyetana too, I've listened to them for years (albeit not their more recent songs so this was technically a discovery) but never thought to enter them. Maybe I didn't think they'd gel well with a BJSC audience and maybe "Thunder Rumbles" has broader appeal than their older songs but what a track. Also, I loved the hosting theme, thanks Kath. Seeing Necki Menaj everywhere was a core memory unlocked moment.
  10. Fashionably late Apple Music Playlist^^
  11. Ah don't worry it's not a criticism! Just saw that you said it didn't sound like an Aelandor entry so I wanted to point out I hadn't gone completely left-field and it lines up at least in some ways with some of my other entries. I often only manage 1 listen through too. There are a lot of songs to divide your attention between and particularly for the semis a lot of it is about first impressions.
  12. Compare it to "Military Fashion Show" - And One (or even "Glow"- Ashbury Heights) and it might sound a lot more like one of mine, it's industrial synth pop. It just has the vocals and attitude you wouldn't usually expect in that genre but that's also kind of what made it stand out to me. Her other songs are a lot grungier and almost wish I'd tried one of those now because I was really torn on which one to send but I'm really surprised to DNQ. Maybe it was a bad semi for me idk but really thought I had a gem with cross appeal this time, and I liked it enough to listen on repeat when I discovered it. Oof, maybe lightning will strike twice. Thanks for the 10.
  13. Slowly drifted left as everything has become worse. I've only ever voted Lib Dem in general elections (partly because of the constituencies I was in for 2015, 2017 and 2019), I'll probably vote Labour now because I'm in a Labour held constituency now and I will vote for whoever I need to to get rid of the soulless demons Tories. Almost more or at least equally importantly, I'm strongly in favour of PR because I want people to be able to vote for what they want to, not for the least bad option. I'm sure people are aware of how awful FPTP is already but I feel there needs to be a stronger push for change. We already do this for some local elections, sometimes- it's quite easy, you just write 1, 2, 3 etc then presumably once all the 1s are counted, the top 2 or 3 "1s" stay and the "2s" from the losing "1s" get added to the remaining candidates. As one example of how PR would work. Several people in this thread said they'd like to vote Green but wouldn't because it would feel like a wasted vote. I get emails from and follow this organisation and have done since 2019: https://www.electoral-reform.org.uk/ Eliminate the idea of safe seats and wasted votes. It's not impossible, not saying that it's easy but it's not the most unlikely scenario in the world for there to be a hung parliament with Labour as the largest party and Lib Dems agreeing to a coalition on the condition that PR is implemented. As for my personal views, I've gone from economically centre left and socially centre right in my late teens to economically socialist and socially centre-left/ apathetic. While I appreciate there are some complexities I'm glossing over*, the reason I say apathetic is economics (certainly right now) is what people really care about as a whole, culture wars are just conservatives desperately trying to avoid talking about how they just want the rich to get richer, which doesn't really resonate with the 99%. Focus on the economy, improvements to public services and general living standards will also improve things socially. *Of course it's always important to uphold and defend rights that have been won, but the right (the donors and politicians broadly speaking I mean) don't actually care about immigration, LGBT rights or "wokeism" one way or the other, they just know that they can use those issues to hide the fact they want to screw over not just the working class, but anyone outside their inner circle of obscene wealth, or those benefitting from that wealth by acting in those interests. Oh and always remember: It's quite affirming to know reality is on your side.
  14. Semi 1 also missing Fljotavik.
  15. Tonight is the one I can't do :nocheer: I'll have to do another Discord one or something. :o
  16. Listenthrough done, I spammed this in chat lots of times but 40ZoG7yyk5I Extra promo because I couldn't get a non label blocked video for discord embeds OR Soundcloud etc alt for Lookylion. Thanks everyone for coming, was a fun session. I believe Bré will also be hosting your regular Synctube session on Wednesday (which I can't make :( ).
  17. Sorted, (all but one track, but I'll push the link on everyone joining dw)- starting soon!
  18. https://discord.gg/DT5YDtWN Link to Buzzjack Discord server is here, we've ran into issues with some labels blocking YouTube on external applications (so including Discord), and 8/41 are blocked- I'm looking into a workaround though. Approx 8pm start!
  19. Vitamin Sea - Owl City 1n1qFLcM_Hc I absolutely adored Owl City when I was younger, my taste has definitely evolved a lot since then but this kind of sound will always take me back, and Vitamin Sea is like an Ocean Eyes track but punchier, and with keytar solos. Really happy to have qualified and looking forward to seeing who the fans are.
  20. I'm happy to try a discord listen through tomorrow (Monday) evening at 8pm, not 100% sure how it'll go but I'm up for giving it a try if there's the interest for it. It's not to take away from a potential Synctube listen through this week, more of a trial to see how it would work.
