  1. Hey buzzjackers, what have been your favourite albums of 2025 so far My mid-year can be accessed on the embedded link

  4. DalekTurret32's Top 50 Albums Of 2024, but it's the same, but I'm switching up the order, so it's not. I’ve noticed that my rankings for my Top 50 Albums of [year] list tend to fluctuate as time passes by, and come to realise that experiencing the albums are, to me, the most important part than ranking and rating them. I don’t really rate albums, movies or TV seasons anymore, but I’m still up for the occasional tier list or ranking. For this list, instead of going for ‘here’s number 50, then number 49, and then number 48’. I decided to instead divide my Top 50 into three sections (the lower half [#50-#26], a upper chunk [#25-#10], the Top 10). Rules: One album per lead artist (which is why I'm including one of the two Smile albums instead of both of them) The lower half [#50-#26] Acts Of Faith by SAULT american dream by 21 Savage BRAT by Charli XCX Beholder by The Blinders Cartoon Darkness by Amyl & The Sniffers Down There by Folly Group Every Inch Of Earth Pulsates by W.H. The Avalanches. Whenever I hear a song of theirs (particularly from Since I Left You and Wildflower. I find We Will Always Love You is more suited for the late night). Seaside imagery immediately pops into my head Lone, Lemon Jelly, Caribou and Four Tet also evoke that imagery. Outside of electronic music, Anderson .Paak's Malibu album and Thundercat's albums Drunk and It Is What It Is
  6. How I plan out my Playlists Of The Month (for those who are new to them): The Mostly Recent section used to have a Top 60 of this month ranked from most fave, but there was the rare occasion where I expanded it to a 75 (due to some months where I listen to so many good songs). Since 2019, my playlists have been consisting of songs that have been at least an 8/10 for me at the time. The Retro section used to be in a more random order, but now its in a similar order to the mostly recent section. In recent months, the total amount of songs I've listened to this month (i.e. new discoveries and songs I've never heard before, and sometimes songs I have heard before but don't remember bringing up on this forum) exceeds 100, so I try evening out both sections by limiting them to 50 each (or 60 + 40). While I didn't start posting personal charts on Buzzjack until a couple months later (i.e. April 2015). This marked the starting point of my exploration of my music tastes. It started off as a Top 50 in the vein of the UK Singles Chart where it would be posted weekly with each song's movement being recorded, but it soon expanded into a Top 75 and then a Top 100. In July 2017, I felt that the personal singles chart in its current format felt more like a UK Singles Chart AU than something that was representative of my tastes (some songs I wanted to enter around the time I got into them like "What" by Ferdinand Weber and "Floridada" by Animal Collective never ended up doing so), so I rebranded it to a Trending Chart. Eventually, the weekly format started to become exhausting, so on April 2018, I switched it to the monthly format this chart is now made today. 10. What were your artists you discovered and liked before they: a) blew up in popularity (especially internationally) b) got a big chart hit My picks: I started getting into Glass Animals around their How To Be A Human Being era, long before Heat Waves I was a fan of Jungle since... not too long after their debut came out. I was pleasantly surprised at how well Back On 74 did on the charts I love Steve Lacy and his work with The Internet, and my fondness started at around near the end of the 2010s. I also heard Foldin' Clothes by J Cole and PRIDE by Kendrick around the time the albums they were on came out but I didn't notice Lacy provided guitar work until much later. Sam Fender was one I discovered at around 2018/2019 and really liked his Hypersonic Missiles album. This was a few years before Seventeen Going Under Plus I started liking AJ Tracey and Jorja Smith at around 2017, not too long before they managed to get chart success

  18. How I plan out my Playlists Of The Month (for those who are new to them): The Mostly Recent section usually has a Top 60 of this month ranked from most fave, but there has been the rare occasion where I have expanded it to a 75 (due to some months where I listen to so many good songs). Since 2019, my playlists have been consisting of songs that have been at least an 8/10 for me at the time. The Retro section used to be in a more random order, but now its in a similar order to the mostly recent section. In recent months, if the total amount of songs I've listened to this month (i.e. new discoveries and songs I've never heard before, and sometimes songs I have heard before but don't remember bringing up on this forum) exceeds 100, then I'll try to even out both sections by limiting them to 50 each (or 60 + 40). 24. We're halfway through the year so what are your favourite albums of 2024 so far? @1807836765857931484 Edit: Just noticed that there was a Music Lounge and that my post got moved there
  25. #5. SCARING THE HOES by JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown After bringing up that album more times than expected in this EOY countdown, it's finally here! A collab between these two isn’t unexpected because JPEGMAFIA had a guest feature on Danny Brown’s uknowhatimsayin album. The result is a nice snappy batch of assertive, edgy humour over glitchy, experimental beats. Song titles like “Jack Harlow Combo Meal” and “Kingdom Hearts Key” immediately grab the listener’s attention and pressing the play button pays off. I also like the occasional breakbeat moment and the gospel sample Fave Tracks: “Fentanyl Tester”; “Jack Harlow Combo Meal”; “Burfict!” #4. O Monolith by Squid There’s relatively slower tempos than on Bright Green Field this time, but nevertheless, Squid manage to maintain that sense of agitation and intensity from that debut. The orchestral textures help elevate the artistry of the production palette, evoking a hint of art rock reminiscent of Radiohead. Fave Tracks: "Green Light"; “Undergrowth”; "If You Had Seen the Bull’s Swimming Attempts You Would Have Stayed Away" #3. Volcano by Jungle The funk and soul of Loving In Stereo carries over to this album, but whereas that album had a nightclub vibe to it, Volcano feels more summery and gives off a pool party atmosphere. There’s even some plunderphonics elements from The Avalanches and parts of the chipmunk soul aesthetic Kanye went for on his College Dropout album. Fave Tracks: “Candle Flame”; “Holding On”; “Don’t Play” #2. The Silver Cord by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard King Gizzard’s first studio effort of that year saw them bringing back the thrash metal style of Infest The Rats Nest. If that didn’t amaze me enough, they would embark on a galactic space trip not too long after that album came out. The vibes on this album are other-worldly, plus some smooth transitions to boot! Stu Mackenzie said in an interview with Stereogum that the band was intending to test the ‘boundaries of people’s attention spans’ by adding extended versions of the tracks on top of the standard versions. A move that’s understandable in an age where the TikTok phenomenon has led to generally shorter song lengths, and thoughts of people going to a Steve Lacy concert only knowing the hook of “Bad Habit” come to mind. I was curious to see how the extended version would play out, and I think that version offers more immersion (plus robot voices). The only drawback that version has is that some of the instrumentals loop for a bit too long. Fave tracks (Standard): “Swan Song”; “Extinction”; “Gilgamesh” Fave tracks (Extended): “Theia”; “Extinction”; “Chang’e” AND THE NUMBER ONE ALBUM OF 2023 IS.... #1. Heavy Heavy by Young Fathers A marvellously bombastic album that fuses hip hop with gospel and industrial electronic music, with the backing vocals adding to the theatricality of this LP. That has been Young Fathers’ style since their debut, but there’s a bigger emphasis on the gospel and electronic elements this time. It was originally a close race between this one and the Squid album, but as time went by and I thought more and more about my picks, the Young Fathers LP is the one I gravitate to more. Fave Tracks: "Drum"; "I Saw"; "Rice" And that's it for the album countdown
