*Two people fighting against each other for someone of the opposite gender *The plot where the friend of a character gets lots of attention and that character becomes jealous in an angry way. There's a few more that I forgot about but those are the ones that come to mind. I think

We all know about one hit wonders, but have we ever thought about two hit wonders? I mean, artists that have had only two Top 40 hits. After watching Crash Thompson's video on the Top 10 Two Hit Wonders, I thought I'd start a thread of artists that have had only two UK Top 40 hits two their names. Joy Division (1980, 1988) {re-releases of Love Will Tear Us Apart hit the Top 40 in 1983 and 1995} (Yeah! I wouldn't call them 'two hit wonders' considering the huge impact they have had, as well as the two excellent studio albums they have put out. However, they have had only two of their songs reach the Top 40) The J Geils Band (1982) Glass Tiger (1986, 1991) Spear Of Destiny (1987, 1988) Danny Wilson (1988, 1989) Senseless Things (1992) The Sundays (1992, 1997) Shut Up And Dance (1992, 1959) Evolution (1993) Funkdoobiest (1993, 1994) Atlantic Ocean (1994) {Waterfall charted again in 1996 upon re-release} Freak Power (1994, 1998) {Tune In, Turn On, Cop Out charted twice on separate releases. It's a project of Norman Cook [a.k.a. Fatboy Slim]} Joshua Kadison (1995) Xscape (1995, 1996) {might not qualify if you count their feature in a Top 40 hit by MC Lyte in 1997} De'Lacy (1995, 1996) The Tony Rich Project (1996) Honeycrack (1996) Az Yet (1997) Puff Johnson (1997) Bentley Rhythm Ace (1997, 2000) David Holmes (1998) Unbelievable Truth (1998) Deetah (1998, 1999) Duane Harden (1999) [?] {mainly as featured artist. Armand Van Helden, Powerhouse} Spiller (2000, 2002) Lonyo = Comme Ci Comme Ca (2000, 2001) J Majik and Wickaman (2001, 2008) Dirty Vegas (2001, 2002) {Days Go By charted twice upon separate releases} Puretone (2002) Easyworld (2003, 2004) Boogie Pimps (2004) The Bees (2004) LCD Soundsystem (2005, 2007) (Again! Wouldn't call them 'two hit wonders' as their studio albums are well-known amongst music critics) MVP (2005/2006) Captain (2006) Soulja Boy Tell 'Em (2007, 2009) (unless you count the Greg Street remix of Turn My Swag On) Platnum (2008) {first hit as featured artist on H2O song} Kevin Rudolf (2009, 2010) Little Boots (2009) Agnes (2009) Medina (2009, 2018) {the 2nd hit was as a featured artist on an M-22 song} Duck Sauce (2009, 2011) {Armand Van Helden is a member of this act} Owl City (2010, 2012) The xx (2010, 2016) (Like Joy Division and LCD Soundsystem, would be weird to refer to them as that, as I know them for more than just the two hits they've had) The Pretty Reckless (2010) Yasmin (2011) {might not qualify if you count her feature in a Top 40 hit by Devlin} Modestep (2011) Vato Gonzalez (2011, 2012) Redlight (2012) Drumsound & Bassline Smith (2012) {if you count the Utah Saints remix they did} Tom Cane (2012, 2014) {mainly as featured artist for Drumsound & Bassline Smith and Wilkinson} Reconnected (2013) {both songs spent only one week on the chart} Elyar Fox (2014) LuvBug (2014) {Marvin Humes of JLS} I'm mainly focusing on those from 2015 and before. The ones from after 2015 that come to mind are Riton, Lil Nas X, Sigrid and Bazzi. But who know? Either of them might score another hit.

Reminds me of Georgia a fair bit.*Bring Me The Horizon and YUNGBLUD team up for a dystopian burst of rage. There's some synths thrown it that are reminiscent of the ones The Prodigy have used.*Nas brings unity to the world with a nice piano sample and lyrics celebrating black culture*Osees are back with a psychedelic style of garage rock*Greentea Peng brings the jazz lounge to our speakers*Pan Amsterdam makes word sandwiches upon word sandwiches with a lot of charm over a chill beat. *Machinedrum crafts a beat with some drum and bass elements thrown in. A brass sample keeps coming in and Freddie Gibbs comes through with great flows.*Robert Smith of The Cure comes back to collaborate with Gorillaz on their new song Strange Timez,in which they look at hectic state of the world today. The menacing pianos were a fantastic addition.*Swarmz' new song is an afrobashment earworm. Even with the questionable Sabrina line in Konan's verse, the bragging fits the upbeat tone of the song, along with a good sample of Soul II Soul's Back To Life. *There's more chilled stuff, and it comes from the pleasant sounds of Nubiyan Twist*Temples add some disco elements to their style of psychedelic rock.*David Guetta and Calvin Harris move away from EDM and opt for a more 80's influenced style. The latter has already done so with his Funk Wav Bounces album, and Guetta previously dived into that style on Flames (which also had Sia in it).*Marshmello and Demi give advice to those struggling with depression on OK Not To Be OK. The song comes to an abrupt stop, but it was a very good look into mental heath.*Koffee shifts from afrobashment to a more traditional reggae sound on Pressure.*Rudimental produces a UK garage throwback*beabadoobee's Care sounds like a late 90's indie rock hit.
  6. Good point! I sometimes had that mindset of album tracks sounding like singles back in 2015-2018, but as I looked further into the elements of music, as well as the lyrics, I realized something. It's less to do with the songs feeling like singles, and more to do with how captivating the production and instrumentation are, along with lyrics and vocals.
  7. I remember Danny Byrd for "Planet Earth", which I have listened to hundreds of times since getting it as an iTunes Single Of The Week back in the day

  18. It's a shame that it's happening. Q Mag played a pretty big role in shaping my music tastes back when I was studying GCSE's. We even had some 2014-2016 issues in the school library and I would usually spent time looking at the album reviews, artists recommending albums and details of upcoming albums.
  19. They'll be revealed in three days
  20. 17/07/2020
  21. Winner will be revealed on 10/09/2020 (date subject to change) Here's what I think might make it to the shortlist FKA twigs (hoping for this to happen) At least one UK rap entry (Stormzy, J Hus) Electronic music (Floating Points, Squarepusher) The Mercury Prize mainly focuses on albums by relative newcomers, so I'm guessing The Murder Capital, Sports Team, Georgia, Sam Fender, Pottery and Porridge Radio At least one commercial success (Harry Styles, Dua Lipa, Dermot Kennedy) A jazz album (Moses Boyd) Jehnny Beth (both of Savages' albums got nominated, so this solo effort might receive one) The 1975 Nadine Shah Tom Misch & Yussef Dayes Jessie Ware Personal wishlist: Foals, Bat For Lashes, Michael Kiwanuka, King Krule, Temples (their most recent album isn't as good as Volcano, but it would be nice to see them make it), Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs

More adds to my collection: DJ Shadow - Endtroducing (HMV exclusive blue vinyl). Saw it for £12.99 on recordstore.co.uk back in the beginning of May and I chose to order it. I already own it on CD (to be fair, the ones I wanted the most from the HMV exclusive coloured vinyl section on RecordStore were ones I already have on CD), but it was still an essential add nonetheless. If I had to choose one from the HMV exclusive section that I don't have on any format, I would have gone for Duke by Genesis. FKA twigs - MAGDALENE. Was hoping to get the red vinyl, but I'm happy with the regular black vinyl that I own. Kanye West - Jesus Is King (blue vinyl). Received as a surprise gift NOW That's What I Call Music! 9 Adam And The Ants - Stand And Deliver 7" Burial - Claustro / State Forest [12"]
