Day 2: A show you wish more people were watching For me, it was a tossup between Cleverman and the Strike miniseries, but I eventually went with the former. D9DlMDEIHx0 Cleverman A young boy called Koen is given the powers of a Cleverman to protect a subhuman race that is a currently a huge target for discrimination. It takes a great look into racism and corrupt politics, and also does an interesting alternative to subverting the 'chosen one' cliche. Rather than just relying on Koen being the 'chosen one', it shows us that Koen was the wrong brother to have been given the powers to and shows his struggles with these powers. The Season 2 finale was a great way to close off the series, and the cliffhanger leaves me wanting more. Here's to hoping the show doesn't get canned before the cliffhanger is resolved.
  3. Love this song. One of my faves from Example along with Stay Awake, Kickstarts and Midnight Run.
  4. Death On The Nile (1978) A great adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel of the same name. The first half drags a bit, but by the time the murder on the boat happens, the film starts to get really interesting. I love how the scenarios of the potential murderers were set up via alternate scenes, provided with a tense score from Nino Rota. Peter Ustinov did a great job playing Hercules Poirot, as he blended into his character very well. Overall, I loved this film due to its unique presentation of its possible scenarios, fabulous acting, well-written score and its large, memorable ensemble of suspects for the detective to investigate. Rating: [OUTSTANDING, 98]
  5. Say Say Say Hey Hey Now Baby! Good song.

Day 1: A show that shouldn't have been cancelled Class PAycTsDzW-w Class was a Doctor Who spin-off in 2016 that expanded on the Who-niverse by taking a look inside Coal Hill School (the school from the very first Doctor Who story An Unearthly Child, which would make a return in the 8th series of Nu Who). I digged this show during my time in 6th form, and got really invested in the universe of the show, as well as most of its characters (especially Ms. Quill). The last episode The Lost, ended on a cliffhanger that (from what I recall) showed a dramatic scene where it showed April with the eyes of the Shadow Kin before suddenly fading to black. It left me really interested to see what would happen next and what other threats lie near Coal Hill, but alas, it was axed. It's sad when arc-driven shows have to end before given a proper closure, because more questions and theories involving the features of its universe that catch our eyes are left in the dust to be unanswered. I also heard that The Sopranos' final episode unexpectedly cut to a black screen before it properly finished. Even as someone that hasn't seen an episode of The Sopranos at the time of posting this, I feel bad for the viewers invested in the show that were waiting to see how it would end off, because again, it leaves them questions begging to be answered.

I have that No Tourists violet vinyl and alt-J TIAY too. Great adds to a vinyl collection. And it must be so cool to have that Brockhampton vinyl. Vitalic sounds like one of those acts I might end up really liking, from hearing a snippet of their sound in the video.
  9. I, Daniel Blake: Ken Loache provides an excellent commentary on how David Cameron's changes to the benefits system affected the state of Britain and the people in there trying to search for a good job. Dan Blake is a very well-written character. He may get short-tempered and foul-mouthed at times, but there are scenes in which he genuinely shows he has a heart, such as his support for single mother Katie, who is struggling to look after her kids on a budget, and his bond with the two boys living next to him (I forgot their names, I think one of them is called Piper) who start selling trainers for 70 quid cheaper than the high street usually sells them for. Plus the way the benefits system treats Dan (minus Ann, who was supportive of him) makes me feel sorry for him. The scene in which Dan spray paints his message "I, Daniel Blake, demand my appeal date before I starve" onto the walls of the job centres is, to me, one of the most iconic movie scenes of the decade due to how it shows that the state of today's politics affects the way we view not only other people or the media in general, but ourselves as well. I also got a laugh out of the passer-by swearing about Ian Duncan Smith and the Conservatives while Blake was getting arrested by the police for graffiti. The film has little to no background music (except for the Vivaldi Four Seasons excerpt over Dan's phone in one part and a scene in which Dan plays a cassette for one of Katie's children). It symbolizes how if we don't have money or a job, there isn't any rhythm or a tune to keep us alive and going; we feel downbeat from living in these conditions. Overall, this was an excellent movie with a terrific political commentary. Rating: [ [GOLD], 100]
  10. I remember Audio sounding really good to me, though Thunderclouds might be my favourite from LSD
  11. My quick thoughts on the ones I've heard On The Luna and Valentino are both excellent. 365 has a good music video, thought the song was decent upon first listen. Please Me is solid. Did not like Dumb Blonde.

I've been wondering something When will "Record Of The Year 2019 - January" start? This thread would be a good candidate for deletion after the answers come in.
