i think he’s up against it to be honest. to the casual listener, it’s not completely dissimilar to bigger than us - i do think it’s a slightly better track but quite frankly it just looks like michael rice has grown a beard + come back for round 2. there’s no buzz to the performer or the song - they’re going to have to do something extraordinary with staging because i’m not entirely taken on the video + i don’t think i’ll watch it again - i don’t see the budget some others have? i really can’t believe that execs at bbc + bmg have sat down, having looked at our entries for the last 10 years + chosen this to represent us in a bid to beat the odds. we’ve done the best when a solo female or group have represented us. the times we’ve come last, it’s mostly with a solo male track, including last year?! so how can they go into all of these meetings + come out with.. the same as last year? i don’t understand their thinking - if it was a winning formula then absolutely but it’s clearly not? promo will be key so that europe can familiarise themselves with the song. i really hope they take to it but, from where i’m standing, it’s no different to bigger than us.

yeah, that’s it - my last breath. it’s a pretty good song which shows we’re taking it a little more seriously though a bigger name would have helped. i hope he can deliver some good performances.

just watched the surprise surprise + stepping out performances - they were so strong here!! + only a foursome as frankie was out being pregnant but i think they actually look fab as that four piece?! :o

disco love is such a cute, summery bop - secured its rightful place in the top 10. i remember this having some really solid live performances, which i think sold it to the gp. my fave was from surprise surprise - they were just spot on during that performance and, being a saturdays fan, watching their tv performances was through bated breath! :lol:

i saw this on saturday night + it was great, really lived up to the hype. there were a few things that left me feeling a little perplexed by but they were minor things + definitely didn’t affect my enjoyment. i read this thread before watching it + some of you say it’s not a horror but it’s definitely more of a tense thriller + it’s wise to go into it not knowing what to expect because that added to the movie as a whole.

i think bbc would be shooting themselves in the foot if they announce that it’s james newman after graham’s hype video, the promos, the radio 1 + 2 slot, the suggestion we could get 12 points.. it all nods towards someone with a little more clout than the relative of a well known singer. if it turns out to be james and not john, they’re just going to be inundated with ‘who?!’ comments + they’ve lost any kind of hype they’d hope to build. the sources i’ve seen are still insistent it’s john so who the hell knows! :lol:

ooh great detective work! i think it actually is john newman, i’ve seen a few sources now that have said him - one that says they’re sworn to secrecy but confirmed it by dm! it’d be good if he could get a great producer involved.
