  3. I just wanted to have a thread that keeps tracks of my rankings, posts all fixtures in the world of international football, tracks results, and keeps up on what teams have qualified for all tournaments. Whenever the World Cup or EURO is discussed here I tell people how I follow all matches in every corner of the world and this thread is the proof. :cheer: The ranking thing is something I've been doing as a hobby since 2012. I've updated the format a couple of times and the latest one is what I'm most comfortable with. I won't bore anyone with the math but basically it takes into a account the result of a match (win/loss/draw), the goal differential (blowouts are marginalized to not give a bonus if you beat San Marino 10-0), and the importance of the match (matches are weighted so friendlies are worth least, then qualifiers/small tournaments, then major continental tournaments, then World Cup), and all of it multiplied by the quality of the opponent. This gives each team a rating based on the average match performance over a four year span where matches in the past two years are slightly weighted higher. If you don't care about the ranking I post or think it's bogus, that's fine just ignore it. :lol:

    I just casually watch the races I can (some of them are at inconvenient hours over here in the U.S.) I think I've become a bit of a Max fan, so I'd like to see him continue to improve this season.

    Will there be any more parody this season or will it be Mercedes/Ferrari/Red Bull dominating again?
  6. Group A: (7) England, (42) Czech Republic, (61) Bulgaria, (76) Montenegro, (55) Kosovo Group B: (6) Portugal, (29) Ukraine, (24) Serbia, (149) Lithuania, (112) Luxembourg Group C: (15) Netherlands, (9) Germany, (44) Northern Ireland, (109) Estonia, (96) Belarus Group D: (13) Switzerland, (10) Denmark, (48) Republic of Ireland, (65) Georgia, (153) Gibraltar Group E: (14) Croatia, (37) Wales, (34) Slovakia, (85) Hungary, (124) Azerbaijan Group F: (3) Spain, (16) Sweden, (41) Norway, (33) Romania, (134) Faroe Islands, (162) Malta Group G: (26) Poland, (32) Austria, (89) Israel, (92) Slovenia, (57) Macedonia, (148) Latvia Group H: (4) France, (53) Iceland, (43) Turkey, (97) Albania, (143) Moldova, (152) Andorra Group I: (2) Belgium, (36) Russia, (56) Scotland, (122) Cyprus, (127) Kazakhstan, (182) San Marino Group J: (22) Italy, (20) Bosnia-Herzegovina, (73) Finland, (54) Greece, (100) Armenia, (161) Liechtenstein Those are my world rankings above. Based on that I'd say England has one of the tougher groups based solely on the fact that no team is a cakewalk, especially on the road. They only need to place top 2 though, so I don't see an issue.

    The only way the minnows are going to really improve is playing in competitive games, not playing against top teams with considerable more talent that end up not taking the match as seriously when they're up 8-0. They gain more confidence playing well against teams on level playing field. It's good to see the League C and League D action.

    If they televise them for American audiences, I'll be watching for sure.

Hope you don’t mind, but I’ve changed the dates to the more familiar European format - Suedehead.
  10. I enjoy International far more. There's always enough qualifiers and tournaments going on throughout the year, that I never lose interest...especially since I pay attention to all regions, not just Europe. Then you get nice little 1-2 month breaks like from the World Cup this year to the start of UEFA Nations League and the next set of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers in September.
  11. Europe only get 3 additional teams in 2026. Europe 13 --> 16 Asia 4 --> 8 Africa 5 --> 9 CONCACAF 3 --> 6 South America 5 --> 6 Oceania 0 --> 1 Intercontinental Playoffs (no Europe) 2 = 48.
  12. Belgium 3-1 England France 2-0 Croatia
  13. France 3-2 Belgium Croatia 2-1 England

    This will be something like 1-1 early second half and then France pulls away.

    Germany were dropped from #2 to #7 from that one loss to South Korea in the ELO rankings. South Korea went from #45 to #25. Based on points, it was the third biggest upset in the history of the World ELO rankings. Norway beating England in the 1920 Olympics and Ghana beating Czech Republic in the 2006 World Cup were the only bigger upsets.

    Gimenez in the 89th minute. 1-0 Uruguay.

    Haha, yeah we'll see when Russia takes on Egypt, that's the real match of this group. Russia just took the energy of opening night and an inferior opponent and ran with it.
  24. DJHazey posted a post in a topic in Sports and Fitness
    The United States has more than 40 venues that are World Cup quality while most other countries in the world are lucky to fill in the 8-10 stadiums. Also: "The 1994 World Cup, staged by the US, had the highest average attendance in the tournament's history" This can't be over-stated as far how much money gets spread among the FIFA member nations which only works (in theory) to help grow football in the world.

    It's not an issue as long as the countries involved are viable, meaning they'd probably qualify anyway. This applies here accept for Canada obviously. Qatar is a joke auto-qualifier. I've made peace with the 48 teams idea, it just makes more of 'World' Cup in a way. I just wish the format was different because the groups of 3 thing is really dumb.
