I understand the 'Monaco is a challenge to drive' aspect, but again I'm telling you that nobody tunes in to see a driver challenged by a track with absolutely no position battles. All Monaco consists of is a bunch of pre-race hoopla about the glitz and glamour, leading up to a green flag with whoever won pole, taking the lead and then zzzzzz, to any viewer of the race. I get this occurs at many other tracks and Monaco is far from the only culprit. However, this is an example of clinging to the classics for nostalgia purposes of whatever and not wanting to try different things and not want to improve, update, and expand the sport. It's just a small capsule view of the bigger attitude of some fans. Vegas very well might end up being a disaster, but I applaud F1 trying to making it more of a global sport and not just a European one.

Well that's basically what Monaco is. F1 being in places like Miami and Vegas is a new thing, so you have forgive the 'razzmatazz' surrounding the events. In a wild match today Malaysia pulls off the minor-upset by coming back at home from 1-3 down against Kyrgyzstan, with an own goal in the 72nd minute, an equalizer 5 minutes later, and the winner 3 minutes into stoppage time. 4-3 final and I'm sure Kuala Lumpur is rocking tonight. Uzbekistan is currently struggling in their opening match, 1-1 in the second half at Turkmenistan. Unless they find a winner, this will be a disappointing start to a campaign where they must feel they finally have a real chance to advance to their first World Cup after so many near-misses in the past.

Burundi gets a good result by holding off Gambia 3-2 today, for the first minor 'upset' of African qualifying.

Another whacky scenario that could have traction if Iceland upsets Slovakia (in Bratislava) today and Luxembourg were to win at home versus Bosnia (they already won in Zenica 2-0). Then the final match day could see Luxembourg advancing directly if they win at Liechtenstein and Slovakia loses away to Bosnia. Luxembourg will be kicking themselves for losing the home match versus Slovakia after getting a draw on the away match.

If Israel wins their next two I think they'll make it because Romania would lose to Israel and could easily lose to Switzerland. Big 88th minute point versus the Swiss.

I project the final standings in that group to be: Switzerland 20 Romania 18 Israel 16 Kosovo 13 It would have been this if Israel had gotten 3 points in Kosovo: Switzerland 20 Israel 19 Romania 18 Kosovo 13 But this is projecting 2 points from the two homes games with Romania/Switzerland and those could very well be 0, especially since they won't actually be at home. They could also win one (more likely vs. Romania) and get 3 points out of those two, then Romania will have to win vs. Switzerland where I'm projecting a draw right now.
