  1. http://www.avclub.com/content/files/images/gossip.article.jpg It's an armpit thing. That'll do for now.
  2. Well, she should've thought about this before releasing such $h!t, shouldn't she? Sorry, but there's so many amazing songs on TTLF and she goes and releases this?! Anyway, Aly... They don't care whether she needs it or not. They need listeners. If they don't think there's a market for the song, they're not going to play it.
  3. I think that in short, their fans were shocked that the album was much more 'rock' than Fallen was, as was everyone else. It was hardly a dramatic move by any means, but it was enough to put fans off. Another theory is that perhaps they left it too long, and another is that you can't really follow up a 13 million selling album from out of nowhere. Either way, as long as they carry on making music, I don't care. I'll still love 'em.
  4. I managed to catch the video yesterday on YouTube. I don't think she's ever looked as amazing, and the scenery was beautiful. Probably my favourite video of theirs so far.
  5. 'Your Star'? I thought that was rather weak and could've easily been made spectacular. There wasn't enough focus on the metaphor of the 'star', in my opinion. I adore the lyrics, but there could've been more. And no mention of 'The Only One'? Personally I think that's probably one of the strongest on the album. That may be because I can relate to it, but I find the lyrics to be quite hard-hitting.
  6. That's exactly how I see it too. Lyrics aren't neccessarily about writing the most complex and metaphorical words (although when done well, something amazing can be created), it's about getting a message across to the audience. As Natalie said, you can delve into the lyrics on 'The Open Door' and find so much. For example, 'Good Enough' is amazing lyrically because it's relatively simple, but amazingly deep. The line 'So take care what you ask of me / 'Cause I can't say no' implies to me that she wants her current boyfriend to propose, and that's what makes it so damn beautiful. Maybe I look too deeply into things, but I really do think 'The Open Door' is lyrically superior to 'Fallen'.

It's just too personal, I think. I like listening to raw emotion, but I just get uncomfortable listening to "I'm OK", because it's obvious that she's in pain as she sings it.
  8. Hopefully McFly will sink like the Titanic next week.

This is my favourite song from the album, I hope it gets a release. My only critisism is that she oversings on this. She adlibs way too much.

"Oh Mother", easily. I can't listen to "I'm OK" at all, it's far too disturbing.
  11. Funny you say that; Weight Of The World is probably as close to Fallen as you're going to get. I love the fact that The Open Door isn't as mainstream as Fallen. It's a true rock album, not this nu-metal material that they did beforehand. I adore Fallen, but it's far too vanilla when I listen back to it. The tracks tended to merge into one and were all in the same atmosphere, with The Open Door every track has it's own face and we can see different elements to Amy's songwriting. Fallen was based on teenage angst: Escaping into one's imagination (Imaginary), suicide (Tourniquet), frustration (Going Under). The Open Door sees the evolution into adulthood: Breaking free from an abusive relationship (Sweet Sacrifice), finding true love (Good Enough), a search for guidance (The Only One), saying goodbye to a loved one for the last time (Like You). I need to stop obsessing.
  12. I think there's definitely potential in Within Temptation's lyrics, but I still think Sharon needs time to develop as a songwriter. There have been some strong moments and some tepid moments; 'The Silent Force' had some amazing lyrics, as did 'Mother Earth'. 'Snow White Queen' made me uncomfortable the first time I heard it - especially the twisted church bell-esque pulses at the beginning of the song - but it's still one of my favourites from the album. They could make an incredible video out of it.
  13. Lyrically, "The Open Door" is leagues ahead of "Fallen". I have been able to connect with the lyrics on a much deeper level and I think that a lot of the words are more finely textured and Amy Lee has really come into her own style. My few of my favourite lyrics from the album... Stay low Soft, dark and dreamless Far beneath my Nightmares of lonliness - Like You Lock the last open door My ghosts are gaining on me - All That I'm Living For Undress in the dark And hide from you I can't escape the twisted Way you think of me I feel you in my dreams And I don't sleep - Snow White Queen Shouldn't let you torture me So sweetly Now I can't let go of this dream - Good Enough I dream in darkness I sleep to die Erase the silence Erase my life - Sweet Sacrfice Selfishly hated No wonder you're jaded You can't play the victim this time - Call Me When You're Sober

"The Open Door" is heavier by quite a bit, I'd say. "Fallen" seems light in comparison when I listen back to it.
  15. This is a safe choice, but it's a nice contrast to "Call Me When You're Sober". They need to release something like "Cloud Nine" or "Snow White Queen". Both of these are completely different to any tracks on "Fallen" and might target a new audience.
  16. My favourite changes constantly. At the moment it's probably "Good Enough".
  17. I've just purchased "Musique" from iTunes, and it is ****ing awesome. It's like Pet Shop Boys meet Within Temptation. AWESOMENESS. :cheer: Next time I'm in HMV, I'm getting "Storm". I've heard previews on iTunes, and it sounds fantastic.

Here's a topic for my new obsession. :P They're a metal band from Holland. As usual, fans of Nightwish, Within Temptation etc. should check them out. Simone Simons has an incredible voice, on par with Tarja Turunen from Nightwish, but much more accessible, in my opinion. Their latest album, "Consign To Oblivion" is outstanding, and "The Phantom Agony" ain't half bad either. Here's a pic of the gorgeous Simone. http://images.metalirium.com/interviews/Epica/Simone4.jpg Yep, check 'em out! :D

Well, I got it, and upon first listens, I'm not impressed. It's really bland, especially compared with the awesomeness that was "Comalies". But that said, even that didn't grow on me until after a while, so I'll probably come around. Hopefully. <_<

I got the album yesterday, but I left it at my boyfriend's house. I'm getting it back sometime next week, or whenever he decides to give it me back.

She's actually got a band of her own called Leaves' Eyes. I'm planning to get their latest album, Vinland Saga, when I have enough money. They remind of a watered down Nightwish. Anyway, I don't know whether I'll be able to listen to Nightwish without Tarja, she made the band for me. That said, I said that about the Sugababes and now I  Ammelle. I suppose I'll give the new vocalist a chance, if they find one.

'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'? Discuss the pure awesomeness of it here. And Amelle's pronunciation of 'four'. From nineteen eighty fouuuur-awwwwh. Bless 'er.
  23. I'm not keen on 'Je M'Appelle', 'Secret Garden', 'Dumb Dumb' and 'All About Me'. However, you'd have to be the world's biggest clown not to like 'Crazy Boys'. ;)
