Wolf Alice 'My Love is Cool'
Saw their set at Glasto on iplayer the other day and have to say The Wonderwhy sounded much better live, heavier. Off to Calling Festival tomorrow so can't wait to see them headlining stage 2, more excited seeing them player than Noel. Are my priorities mixed up??? Still I just can't get over some of the missing songs they could have thrown on to the album. Like 'Destroy Me'. (I don't think there is an EP for it.) Cool video too.

Right, bought album and had a bit of time with it. I am warming to the new versions of Bros and Your Loves Whore, despite the lesser edge. Think maybe it's better they played about with the tunes for the album as it would be a bit of a cheat to just chuck them on without a tweak here and there. (Still not used to the sound engineer playing with his iphone sound effects app while the band were recording :P) But the album is definitely a grower, not a shower. Out of the new tunes... Loving You're a Germ, Freazy (whatever that means), Lisbon, Adjusting to Silk - it builds in sounding like something out of the Drive soundtrack. It's an odd one, very poppy and playfully disjointed, but feels deeper and darker than it lets on. Can say the same for Soapy Water and The WonderWhy, both not my personal faves but we'll see if they grow or not. Swallowtail - Love the fact they got the drummer to do a song. Reminds me a lot of The Subways. It does feel like it should be at the very end of the album though, mainly from the burst at the end which would make you just start the album again. Turn to Dust feels a bit odd as an opener but enjoyable enough. Maybe the album build is perplexing me? I don't know?! I was under the impression if a singer hasn't got a great voice you turn the echo up on the mic to mask it. Now I know WA's singer has a good voice. So why so much echo in the god damn mic studio man? why!? Anyway. deep breath.

I haven't bought the album yet, still will though, but had a listen on youtube last night after getting in from the pub. So glad I have found someone who thinks the same. The original was punchy and lively, jump around your room like a 5 year old-esque but they've covered it in fx and subdued it. Very disappointed. The same can be said for My Loves Whore. Maybe I have been O.D.ing on their studio recording stuff on YT and their EP's too much.
