reviewa review from blog online finished off the week with another musical, getting to see a preview of From Here To Eternity at The Shaftesbury with my parents as they came down for the weekend. I knew little about this 1941 Pearl Harbor-set musical, based on the classic film (or more precisely, I think, on the same novel as the film was), but have been looking forward to it for weeks. First impressions were a little disappointing - it has a first half which, like the Light Princess, could perhaps do with losing 20 minutes or so. (It goes for eighty minutes and surely could get the point across in an hour.) The second act, though, is absolutely phenomenal. Darius Campbell and Robert Lonsdale's country-tinged I Ain't Where I Wanna Be Blues is brilliant and Ryan Sampson as Maggio steals every scene he's in, particularly with his outstanding performance of I Love The Army. As war grows closer, the show gets better and better, and The Boys of '41 had me close to tears, with the reprise nearly pushing me over the edge - surely the best new song of the last 5 years, if not longer, in the West End? In addition the choreography throughout the show is uniformly strong, and there's not a weak link in the cast. Well worth seeing! I think I could see a couple of scenes that could have been shortened a bit, one which hubby said went on too long, supriseingly a scene I wouldn't have thought he would have minded going on...

yup, that was the impression I got, there was no one main character - would love to see this in it's final form,

hope you get sown to see it, we really enjoyed it, no review as yet - there were a couple of things we thought could have been tweaked- have no idea how it has changed so far or if this is a final version.

well you know me Meg, I feel a complete fool as I shake and my heart thuds - and I feel embarrassed to feel like that at my advanced years LOL - now had daughters been there, I would have used them as an excuse LOL- I just sneaked a photo or two - I did keep wondering if he was letting people know he was around, but I just stood behind him like a rabbit in headlights even though hubby said we could go outside when he eventually went outside and collar him. we really enjoyed the show

well, thoroughly enjoyed the show yesterday - effects were great - won't go into detail, but there were things that we thought could have been slightly tweaked - Darius was great- very powerful voice and presence, I was right behind Darius in the foyeur as he came in and startd chatting to someone in the ticket box - obviously I didn't say a word, OH was trying to get me to ask for my program signed,or nip round to the stage door to collar him outside but I didn't, LOL, all I did was take a sneaky photo or two of him on my phone,
  19. he is a busy bee, I expect with one song or so at each place he can squeeze them both in
