Auction - great shirt. I want one !!!
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p217/lonesome_cowboy/1_200806011228331.jpg The so-called “Celebrity Auction” of U2’s The Edge (May 31st) was another success. Among the successful Elvis items were a gold record he presented to his mother (4250 $US), a signed Hank Snow program (2400 $US), a quote on EP-letterhead (5500 $US), a signed picture (2500 $US), a hat he wore in the sixties (2500 $US), a prescription bottle (2500 $US) and this shirt, with a COA by Ginger Alden. The shirt sold for 25.000 $US. The shirt features a large Indian on the back in full headdress, as well as an Indian across each breast of the shirt and at the bicep of each sleeve. It was accompanied by a candid picture of Elvis wearing the shirt. Does anyone have the pic of Elvis in this shirt?

Charro!
A friend of mine has just come back from a 6 month holiday Australia, New Zealand, USA .. and brought me back a cracking Jailhouse Rock poster and the new WB DVD of Charro! http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p217/lonesome_cowboy/charro.jpg Now I already have the old grainy DVD that’s been around for ages and I notice that this DVD (the old one) is timed at 96 minutes, the new one at 97 mins and according to the "For CD Lovers Only" website they have it at 98 mins and a book Elvis the Hollywood Years has it at 93! It might not seem like a lot but a couple of minutes missing from a film can contain some important scenes. (The Beatles Yellow Submarine was missing the song Hey Bulldog for years!). My friend watched the new DVD while he was abroad and noticed that the (not to be too pervvy) partial nude scene was missing. So I guess my question is... what is the running time of Charro and are we being cheated out of the full film? Also is this happening on other Elvis releases.

Elvis' piano
Good old Sam  It was always all to with him. Just like when he, not Marion taped Elvis' first recording at Sun. I just don't think Elvis would have got so good so quickly to leave Jerry lee Lewis standing aroung fot so long at the $1,000,000 Qaurtet jam. But who knows maybe Sam was telling the truth for once.

Elvis' piano
We all know the story of how Elvis got his first guitar and who taught him to play. But who taught him to play piano? And if the Presley’s were as poor as they were, could they have afforded a piano or lessons. To quote from the Scotty Moore site http://scottymoore.net/ “In 1999 Guernsey's of New York auctioned a piano that Elvis purchased at Houcks, it was supposedly his first one. It was a simple used Stroud upright that they say cost him $281.75 and in the same auction they sold the receipt for it dated Sept 30, 1955” Elvis, we know was proficient enough by then or else he would not have been as good just over a year later at the Million Dollar Quartet jam. There doesn’t seem to be any mention of this in any book I have read, certainly not Guralnick’s. So over to you guys. Any guesses.

Elvis 'Did visit England'
In 1956 the English music magazine NME reports that rising new star "Elvin" Presley will perform a season at the London Palladium. Not only do they get Elvis' name wrong, but also the Memphis Flash never played England. Not such a new story then!!

Happy Birthday Jerry
Jerry Leiber (born April 25, 1933) and Mike Stoller (born March 13, 1933) are among the most influential American songwriters and music producers in post-World War II popular music. Their first successes were as the writers of such crossover hit songs as "Hound Dog" and "Kansas City." Later in the 1950s, particularly through their work with The Coasters, they created a string of ground-breaking hits that are some of the most entertaining in rock and roll, by using the humorous vernacular of the white teenager sung by a black group in a style that was openly theatrical rather than personal, songs that include "Young Blood," "Searchin'," and "Yakety Yak."[1] They were the first to surround black music with elaborate production values, enhancing its emotional power with The Drifters in "There Goes My Baby" and influencing Phil Spector who worked with them on recordings of The Drifters and Ben E. King. Leiber and Stoller went into the record business and, focusing on the "girl group" sound, released some of the greatest classics of the Brill Building period.[2] They wrote successful and iconic hits including "Love Me," "Loving You," "Don't," and "Jailhouse Rock", among others for Elvis Presley.[3] They were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985 and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.[4]

Happy Birthday Glen
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p217/lonesome_cowboy/george_klein_wedding_dec5_1970_glen.jpg Glen Campbell (born April 22, 1936, Delight, Arkansas) is a Grammy Award, Dove Award winning, and two time nominated Golden Globe Award American country pop singer and guitarist and occasional actor. He is best known for a series of hits in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as for hosting a television variety show called The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour on CBS television. Also on a sadder note it's 40 years since Steve Sholes passed away. RIP. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p217/lonesome_cowboy/sholes_stephen_h1.jpg Steve Sholes (February 12, 1911 in Washington, D.C. - April 22, 1968 in Nashville, Tennessee) was an American record producer. He was one of the most influential producers in postwar music. As the producer and manager of RCA's country division, [1] Sholes was responsible for signing both Chet Atkins and Elvis Presley, and the birth of the Nashville Sound.
