  1. I believe the SES numbers are backdated to January 2014, but I don't recall for certain.
  2. To clarify, my concern was that, when the time came to incorporate SES into the best sellers listing, the OCC would simply redefine the term "million seller" to mean 1,000,000 combined sales. Since they specifically created a new term for this updated accolade, it should theoretically be as easy as stating "x became the 171st million seller" or "y became the 312th millionaire", with a brief description of the relevant achievement. Maintaining a separate listing wouldn't be 100% necessary, but maintaining it as a "legacy list" of some kind would be ever so lovely. That's the hope, at least <_<
  3. I mostly concur with Rush and THEO. It would be surprising if Luis Fonsi isn't able to ride Despacito's wave into one or two more chart hits before the year is up (anywhere from low top ten to mid 20s maybe?), but in the long term, I doubt if he'll achieve anything even close to this scale.
  4. I am simply beside myself with joy over this whole turn of events :yahoo: Everyone else has pretty much hit upon most of the exciting parts of this (official recognition of "combined sales" million sellers, up to date sales figures for more than 300 high profile songs, the raw amount of data available for parsing, and the assurance that, despite some questionable rule adjustments in recent months, the OCC are still on basically the right track), but I am particularly excited about the inclusive distinction between "million sellers" and "millionaires", as it will allow the OCC to maintain a separate listing of sales only million sellers without diverting any energy from the new classification. The million sellers list may be trending to irrelevancy as the years go on (for better or worse), but it continues to be a neat little representation of the old era ( ) of music purchasing. As streaming figure inflate more and more, it has become increasingly apparent that directly comparing figures of the sales era and the streams era is a fool's errand, so it will be nice having access to both listings. Anyway, time to dig into the figures and update my documents/playlists B-)
  5. Pretty Enjoyable (7/10): 1. New Rules (a slightly more substantial chorus would be lovely, but I like pretty much everything else about it) 2. Rockabye (in all actuality, this is probably a high 6, but Sean Paul's goofy toasting (ex: "Daily Struggle!") never fails to make me grin) Good Enough (6/10): 3. Symphony (this is my first time hearing this (don't blame me, blame the taste of the American public), but I quite like this one - "New Rules" had better watch out) 4. Feels (nothing in here is as exemplary as Khalid's chorus on "Rollin", nor do the performers gel with the production as well as Migos and Frank Ocean on "Slide", but this is good fun all around) 5. Despacito (Justin Bieber's "contribution" is nothing spectacular, but thankfully the original works quite well without him) 6. Shape of You (kudos to Ed, this one has held up quite well given its ridiculous overexposure; that being said, it is a flawed, but ultimately enjoyable effort) 7. Sign of the Times (I'm not too wild about this overstuffed and plodding variety of rock, but it makes more for some nice variety this year) The Vaguely Positive Side of "Meh" (5/10): 8. I'm the One (if only Chance's and Quavo's verses were attached to a slightly better song) It Doesn't Really Do Much for Me (4/10): 9. Bridge Over Troubled Water (it's a little better than your run of the mill charity song (Stormzy's actual empathy helps immensely), but the usual problems are still as present as ever) 10. Wildest Thoughts (neither "Maria Maria" nor bored Rihanna really do much for me)

Calum Scott - Dancing On My Own Designer - Panda DNCE - Cake By The Ocean Fergie - M.I.L.F. $ Fifth Harmony feat. Ty Dolla $ign - Work From Home Lukas Graham - 7 Years Major Lazer feat. Justin Bieber & MØ - Cold Water Meghan Trainor - No Shawn Mendes - Treat You Better Twenty One Pilots - Stressed Out All of these are, first and foremost, terribly obnoxious. In terms of actual quality, 7 Years is by far the worst on this list, while the rest are varying degrees of sub-par.
