  1. We've only had seven #1s in the last 12 months... Hoping Harry gets there today and Clean Bandit next week!
  2. They better not do a Lay Me Down and let the two versions chart separately giving him yet another entry!
  3. So Katy Perry would have peaked at #2 if Ed Sheeran didn't exist... Not so upset for Martin Jensen as the song will probably climb further. I like the album, but having to listen to most of it in the top 10 is kind of putting me off sadly...
  4. Interesting to see how close Lukas Graham were to six weeks at #1 this time last year. Back then that seemed like a long run at the top!

Even as somebody who likes Ed Sheeran reasonably well as an artist and doesn't mind hearing his whole album in the chart show tomorrow, I think this week's chart is awful for three reasons: Firstly any single he chooses to release from the album a few months down the line is unlikely to be able to beat its peak in the chart from when it was an album track only, which removes most of the excitement from this album campaign pretty much as soon as it starts. Secondly, because once the OCC inevitably decide that their chart rules are becoming ridiculous and change them to exclude tracks not nominated as singles (or something similar), most of these tracks will randomly drop off the chart. And thirdly, as a result of this, everything else currently doing well in the chart will have a ridiculous-looking chart run with sudden 10-place drops and rises. All this has been said before but if even chart fans who like Ed think this week is terrible for the chart, something must be wrong :P (Having said that it's generating a lot of interest in the chart and people like me who usually browse this forum rather than post very often are feeling compelled to comment and generate discussion, so I guess it can't be all bad)

I actually think the terrible album market might help artists like Ed and Adele get higher sales than they would have 10 years ago with the same popularity. People have pretty much stopped buying albums these days, so on the rare occasion a huge album comes along it gets far more attention and people talk about it more, so I'd think more people probably jump on the bandwagon and buy it, partly because they rarely ever buy albums and are in the mood to discover something new. I think if the market was as it was in 2007 then 25 and ÷ would have had smaller first week sales. Might be completely wrong though! :P
  7. Official Charts just announced the album #1 on Twitter before Greg :P
  8. Never realised they censor the word "legs" in this song
  9. Fine with artists I'm not a fan of doing well, but I really hope they don't play all these Stormzy tracks...
  10. Guess so. :( When albums are so expensive I guess cherry picking after listening makes a lot of sense, if it's £12 and you only like 10 songs then you're saving money. Unless you like having the complete album, I would always prefer to have all of it even if I don't like every song. But when singles sales are so low I can understand the album tracks getting so high on iTunes.
  11. Galway Girl is already #1 on Irish iTunes! I think it's a good album on first listen, I don't understand why he gets such huge success though when many other artists of a similar genre are just as good or better!
  12. 21 here. As somebody who listens to music whilst out walking with no internet connection almost every day, I will never understand the appeal of streaming. Don't buy music often enough to justify the Spotify membership either, I prefer to spend less and know my money is going directly to the artists I like! Also even if it's a bit abstract in the modern age when it's just a downloaded or ripped file, I like the idea of owning the music I listen to, so it can't be taken away just because I unsubscribe from a service. Voted for downloads and physicals (downloads for singles, physicals for albums unless the download is significantly cheaper) :)
  13. Everybody's allowed to like what they want, but I just don't understand enjoying Stormzy... That style of music is totally monotonous and unlistenable for me. Wasn't expecting this huge popularity for it.
  14. Whilst Ed's domination is getting tedious already I really wish it wasn't an even older song (Human) pushing him down... Out of the top 4 I'd prefer Castle on the Hill at #1.
  15. Been a Train fan for years and I must say I wasn't expecting them to have another hit, their music quality has been rapidly dropping and Play That Song sounds awful to me!
  16. That Migos track is almost exactly the same as Panda. Can't work out why anybody would listen to that out of choice :P (it's also barely worth playing with the amount of censoring they have to do) Enjoy Starving but why are they playing it? This new system makes more sense but they definitely need to think more carefully about what they play...
  17. Yep, it was #1 in Scotland last week :) http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/scottish-singles-chart/
  18. Mr Brightside for 16 weeks at #1 in 2017!
  19. Let Me Love You is the only Bieber song I actually like :) (not exactly sure why as it's not that great objectively)
  20. What Do You Mean feels like a lifetime ago!
  21. So Rockabye hasn't even made the year-end top 40 after 8 weeks at #1? I know singles take a long time to rack up sales these days but that's ridiculous! Still, it'll probably outsell most of this year's hits in the long run anyway.
  22. Sales must be so close from #2 downwards, wonder how high Zara would be if it wasn't 59p!
  23. Zara #2???!! :o
  24. So Radio 1 will play the word "sex" in SOTME but feel the need to change the title of Sexual?
  25. Really hoping Clean Bandit can keep #1 just for the sake of stopping these annoying campaigns every year - I like the idea of charity singles, but when the Christmas #1 isn't really any kind of achievement any more because of them, it'd be nice if they'd give it a break for a few years. It pretty much depends on how much promotion the Jo Cox campaign gets this week, but it'd need to be selling at about 10 times the rate it is now to stand a chance!
