The best selling song never to reach number 1 is Last Christmas by Wham! Although it would likely be All of Me by John Legend if streams are included. Also up there are The A Team, Use Somebody, Torn, Take Me to Church (only because of streams), I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, Don't Stop Believin', Love the Way You Lie, Jar of Hearts, Angels and Chasing Cars.
  4. What is your all-time favourite song by a girl band and/or boy band? My favourite girl band song is Too Lost in You by the Sugababes and my favourite boy band song is Keep On Movin' by 5ive.

  11. Everyone's favourite pop-punk band Blink-182 (not mine, I prefer Busted and Green Day) are back this summer with their seventh studio album California - their first LP since 2011's Neighborhoods. They may have switched out a member since then (longtime friend of the group Matt Skiba has replaced Tom DeLonge), but if lead single Bored To Death is anything to go by, the band are back to the fast, fun and hilariously fiesty ways of their heyday. To celebrate, Official Charts thought it was about time we looked at the trio's most successful singles in their canon. They've racked up 10 Top 40 singles and 5 Top 40 albums in the UK since their 1999 breakthrough, but which songs are the biggest of the lot? Prepare to take a trip down memory lane as we look closer at the Top 3. 3. What's My Age Again? After a string of largely unnoticed singles in the early '90s, What's My Age Again? was the first time Blink struck gold and found themselves with a smash on their hands. About refusing to grow up because, you know, punk, the song was apparently originally titled Peter-Pan Complex before their label asked them to change it. First released in 1999, What's My Age Again? got off to a slow start in the UK, debuting at Number 38, but a re-release the following year off the back of the success of follow-up single All The Small Things saw it reach a peak of Number 17. To date its sales stand at 163,000 (244,000 including streaming equivalent sales). 2. I Miss You Released in 2004 from the band's self-titled fifth album, I Miss You lands more on the emo end of Blink's musical spectrum. In the spirit of the song, members Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus wrote their verses separately before bringing them together on the track. The song has sold 293,000 (375,000 including streaming), and is one of two UK Top 10 singles for Blink. Speaking of which... 1. All The Small Things The song that sent Blink-182 stratospheric, All The Small Things was the band's proper UK breakthrough single. Written primarily Tom DeLonge as both an ode to his girlfriend (later wife) Jennifer Jenkins and his favorite punk group the Ramones, it was the last song recorded for their debut album Enema Of The State, put together with the intention of being "really catchy and basic" for radio play. It certainly did the trick. The song (aided by the brilliant boy band-mocking music video) became and remains their highest charting thus far, peaking at Number 2 in 2000 (beaten to the top by Geri Halliwell's Bag It Up no less) with lifetime sales of 447,000 (585,000 including streaming). Such was the song's cultural impact that it led Jedward to release their own version of it 2010, which reached a lowly Number 80 on the Official Chart. We're sure the band were flattered. Elsewhere in Blink-182's Top 10, a special mention goes to their 1997 single Dammit from their second album Dude Ranch, which didn't chart in the UK but still manages to sneak in at Number 10. Blink-182's Official Top 10 biggest selling singles in the UK are... Sometimes the OCC include streams, and sometimes they don't. Confusing as hell
  14. Either that or Don't Bring Me Down I'd guess
  15. After taking Glastonbury by storm with their "legends" slot over the weekend, the Electric Light Orchestra's greatest hits album All Over the World has hit a massive sales landmark, OfficialCharts.com can confirm. The retrospective has tipped sales of one million (1.005m as of today, June 28 according to Official Charts Company data), hitting the milestone some 11 years after its release. Thousands turned out to watch the British rock band at Glastonbury last weekend, where they played their biggest hits including Evil Woman, Showdown and Mr Blue Sky in the famous "legends" slot, previously played by the likes of Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie. All Over the World: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra was originally released in 2005, entering the Official Albums Chart at Number 11 before climbing to Number 6 the following week. It has since enjoyed 112 weeks in the Top 100, having been re-released in 2011 and again earlier this month, entering inside the Top 5. Here's a breakdown of All Over the World's sales since its 2005 release: Total physical sales: 858,931 Total album download sales: 138,787 Individual track downloads: 674,894 Individual track streams: 23,024,405 What's more, there appears to be plenty of life in the record yet; their Glasto slot has set the album on course for a new chart peak this week, currently at Number 2 as of today's sales flash. ELO aren't the only act enjoying post-Glasto success on the Official Albums Chart; Adele is on course to reclaim the top spot following her headline set, while a string of albums from performers including Muse, Foals and Tame Impala are set to to re-enter the Top 40.

18 Months does have its certification now. Some guy asked the BPI on Twitter in May and they said there was a glitch. It's 2x Platinum

  20. June is LGBT Pride Month, a huge event in the LGBT+ calendar, originally commemorating the Stonewall demonstrations in New York in 1969. All over the world, LGBT people come together to celebrate equality and take a stand against hatred and intolerance. This weekend, the parade comes to the capital, as Pride In London takes over the city today. Although not everyone in the entertainment industry is gay – despite what gossip mags and forums might tell you – there are a number of LGBT artists who've made a big contribution to the Official Charts. Obviously, music is all about inclusion and equality, but we reckon a good way of celebrating Pride is to shine the spotlight on the most successful LGBT artists and the million-selling singles they gave us. Note: We're talking about acts that have and still do identify as LGBT. For bands, we've gone with lead singers or band members who have a high profile and are LGBT. No speculating! The Top 5 Top of the heap, of course, is Sir Elton himself, with his 1997 version of Candle in the Wind. The aficionado of glittery spectacles' original 1973 track was rewritten with different lyrics to honour Diana, Princess of Wales following her death. Backed with Something About the Way You Look Tonight, it's sold 4.93 million copies to make it the best-selling single of all time. That's not his only million-seller, however – Don't Go Breaking My Heart, his 1976 duet with Kiki Dee, is at 17 on the list. It's been Christmas Number 1 twice, and is the third biggest seller of all time, plus, it has a very talented gay man behind it. Queen's masterpiece Bohemian Rhapsody, sang by Freddie Mercury, has shifted over 2.5 million copies. Interestingly, the biggest selling album of all time also has LGBT connections – Queen's Greatest Hits is the top seller, with over 6 million copies sold. Next up is another massive Number 1 from Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Their raw, energetic debut Relax spent five weeks at the top in 1983 and has sold over 2.05 million copies. Its LGBT connection comes from lead singer Holly Johnson – without those perfect pipes, there'd be no Relax. Now, it might be a bit early for a Christmas song, but as Mariah Carey will tell you, you can never have too many festive moments. Wham's Last Christmas from 1984 is in fourth, thanks to lead singer George Michael, who came out in spectacular style in his 1998 hit Outside. Last Christmas is the biggest-selling song never to get to Number 1, with 1.8 million copies sold. Rounding off the Top 5 is the best-selling debut single ever, the OG Pop Idol himself, Will Young. Will actually came out just as his winner's single Anything Is Possible/Evergreen was being released, and the song spent three weeks at the top. It's sold 1.79 million! Other notable entries Frankie get another Top 10 slot with nine-week Number 1 Two Tribes (6) and George Michael reserves another space too, with the smoochsome classic Careless Whisper (9). Village People's gay anthem YMCA also makes the Top 10, throwing its best dance shapes at Number 8, with 1.5 million sales. Further down the million-sellers' list, things get a little more modern. Clean Bandit's Rather Be earns its place thanks to violinist Neil Amin-Smith, and Lady Gaga, who identifies as bi, gets two entries – Poker Face (13) and Bad Romance (16). Sam Smith also makes an appearance thanks to his guest role on Naughty Boy's La La La. Steps (12) and Boyzone (14) get to join the roll of honour thanks to their gay members H and the much-missed Stephen Gately. The full list of million-selling singles by LGBT acts: 1 SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT/CANDLE IN THE WIND 97 - ELTON JOHN 2 BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY - QUEEN 3 RELAX - FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD 4 LAST CHRISTMAS/EVERYTHING SHE WANTS - WHAM! 5 ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE/EVERGREEN - WILL YOUNG 6 TWO TRIBES - FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD 7 KARMA CHAMELEON - CULTURE CLUB 8 YMCA - VILLAGE PEOPLE 9 CARELESS WHISPER - GEORGE MICHAEL 10 TAINTED LOVE - SOFT CELL 11 RATHER BE - CLEAN BANDIT FEAT JESS GLYNNE 12 HEARTBEAT/TRAGEDY - STEPS 13 POKER FACE - LADY GAGA 14 NO MATTER WHAT - BOYZONE 15 LA LA LA - NAUGHTY BOY FEAT SAM SMITH 16 BAD ROMANCE - LADY GAGA 17 DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART - ELTON JOHN & KIKI DEE

  25. If there’s one thing we love, it’s a comeback. And the very best comebacks are the ones that seemingly come from nowhere, with a new look, new attitude and a new sound. Shiny! New! And comebacks didn’t much newer and fresher and generally "is that really her?!" out there than Nelly Furtado’s attack on the charts in summer 2006. Well-known for her folky style, thanks to huge hit I’m Like A Bird, Nelly surprised everyone when she hooked up in the studio with R&B master producer Timbaland for her album Loose. Its lead single in the UK, Maneater, was an industrial, synthy, confident banger and quite rightly stormed to Number 1 on release. Charting at Number 8 on downloads alone – chart rules at the time meant songs could only chart a week before physical release – Maneater then knocked Sandi Thom off the top. Maneater kicked off a run of four Top 10 hits from Loose – Promiscuous feat. Timbaland himself (3), All Good Things (4) and Say It Right (10). She then followed up that cracking quartet with another chart-topper, featuring on Timbaland’s Give It To Me in April 2007. Two Number 1s in 10 months? She’s a charteater! (Sorry.) Maneater has sold over 450,000 copies in the UK and is one of eight Top 10s Nelly’s notched up. Nelly’s biggest selling single was actually never a Number 1 – her 2008 collaboration with James Morrison, Broken Strings, is the big one – it’s sold over 770,000 copies. So Nelly was ruling the roost but what about the rest of the Top 10? 01 08 NELLY FURTADO MANEATER 02 01 SANDI THOM I WISH I WAS A PUNK ROCKER (WITH FLOWERS IN MY HAIR) 03 38 EMBRACE WORLD AT YOUR FEET 04 23 AUTOMATIC MONSTER 05 02 GNARLS BARKLEY CRAZY 06 04 INFERNAL FROM PARIS TO BERLIN 07 05 P!NK WHO KNEW 08 11 TONY CHRISTIE (IS THIS THE WAY TO) THE WORLD CUP 09 03 KEANE IS IT ANY WONDER 10 48 DAVID BADDIEL, FRANK SKINNER AND THE LIGHTNING SEEDS 3 LIONS The country was caught up in World Cup fever, so three footie songs made the Top 10. Embrace's official England anthem World At Your Feet (3), a soccered-up version of Tony Christie's (Is This The Way To) Amarillo (yeah, seriously) and, back for its 10th anniversary, 3 Lions, from Baddiel, Skinner and Lightning Seeds. Infernal's Euro banger From Paris To Berlin was sticking around in the Top 10 at 6, and The Automatic were zooming up the chart – thanks to being chased by a Monster, no doubt – at Number 4. But today belongs to Nelly, just out for a quiet walk with her pooch when all hell breaks loose: PLolag3YSYU
