  1. Back in the 80s you'd be paying a tenner for a vinyl, and in the 90s a CD would set you back a fiver. 99p is too much? Really?
  2. 140,000? Wow, impressive!
  3. 99p is unreasonable?
  4. Also amazing to see that Iron Maiden had a top 10 hit this century!
  5. Absolutely, higher number of chart choppers than any other year in chart history - 42 of them. As well as 36 the year before. Looks like staying at number 1 for a second week was a monumental achievement back then.

It would have been announced as a million seller by the OCC if it had actually sold 1 million purchased copies, but I guess it's pretty close
  7. I still think this is a brilliant song. Back in the early '00s, one way of ensuring your single would be a hit was by getting heavy rotation on music video channels. And if like us you spent your days flicking between MTV Hits, The Box, TMF and the like back in 2000, one video that was unavoidable was Madison Avenue's Don't Call Me Baby. It certainly did the trick though, as the track stormed to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart precisely 16 years ago this week. Madison Avenue were a short-lived Australian duo comprising of writer/producer Andy Van Dorselaer and singer Cheyne Coates - she was the one wearing those skimpy outfits and delivering a sassy dance routine in said video. Don't Call Me Baby charged to the top spot with opening-week sales of 93,794, knocking the previous week's Number 1 - Britney Spears' Oops! I Did It Again - down to second place. Here's how the rest of the Top 10 looked this week in 2000 (hello Sex Bomb) - and you can click on the image to see the full Top 100: Don't Call Me Baby's lifetime chart sales stand at 365,605, and it seems some of you are still discovering it - last week 67 people downloaded the song in the UK alone. But what became of Madison Avenue? They followed up their Number 1 with Top 10 hit Who the Hell Are You?, but they called it quits shortly after their album, called The Polyester Embassy, stalled at Number 74. It was probably for the best, as they were never going to top that album title, were they? Still, Madison Avenue leave a legacy of two solid pop songs, and this incredible Top of the Pops performance (and this one where she dances around a glass of water, but let's not talk about that): http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/n...op-spot__15095/

Will Lose Yourself overtake Love the Way You Lie as well?
  9. Kinda pointless telling us the most downloaded when physicals contribute a hell of a lot to the overall totals. Been getting "No Sleeep" because you can't wait for Janet Jackson's new album? Think you're going to "Scream" if you don't hear some new Janet music soon? We know the feeling. The bona fide member of pop royalty Janet Jackson releases her 11th studio album Unbreakable on 2October, and while we wait, we're rewinding slightly to check out the biggest songs of her 30-year career. Before we unveil the full Top 40 most downloaded Janet tracks, let's take a closer look at the all-important Top 5. Watch out Stanets, some serious chart stats heading your way. 1: Together Again In pole position, one of Janet's first forays into dance music saw her pay tribute to her close pals who were no longer with us. As usual, Janet's dance routine for Together Again was a masterclass in precision and pliability. Over 50,000 copies of the song have been downloaded since we started counting in 2005 – not bad to say the song came out a whole seven years earlier and sold a whopping 747,000 on physical format. PEAK: 4 YEAR: 1997 ChartFact: Together Again is Janet's biggest selling single in the UK, even though it only got to Number 4. It's sold over 798,000 copies in total 2: Scream You'd think with two megastars in the family, Michael and Janet would have teamed up for a guaranteed smash pretty often, but we had to wait until 1995 before the swivel-hipped duo got together for this classic. Not a Number 1, sadly, but another Top 3 smash for the pair, Scream's total chart sales tally stands at over 200,000. At the time, its video was rumoured to be the most expensive ever – imagine if it had been in colour. Twice the price! PEAK: 3 YEAR: 1995 ChartFact: Scream was Janet's eighth Top 10 hit. She's racked up 17 altogether. 3: All For You "Got a nice package, all right," sang Janet in this saucy, retro R&B jam – no idea wha she was referring to, of course. All For You was stopped from hitting the top by the combined might of Spice Girl Emma Bunton and Shaggy. She's only had one Top 10 since, with Feel It Boy the collabo with Beenie Man from 2002. PEAK: 3 YEAR: 2001 ChartFact: All For You was Janet's fourth single to peak at Number 3 4: The Best Things In Life Are Free It seems we really love Janet when she teams up with another superstar. Her collaboration with silky-voiced legend Luther Vandross was so popular, it hit the Top 10 twice! The Best Things In Life Are Free was first released in 1992 and became Janet's first serious challenge for the top spot, held off at number 2 by Snap's Rhythm Is A Dancer. Three years later, it was back! A remixed version peaked at Number 7. PEAK: 2 YEAR: 1992 ChartFact: The Best Things in Life Are Free came close, but Janet has never had a Number 1 single in the UK. The 1992 version of the song was the 17th biggest selling single of that year. 5: That's The Way Love Goes Leading off the huge album Janet, That's The Way Love Goes saw Janet take a more mature direction, and having her second Number 2 peak in a row. She's not been that high since, believe it or not. PEAK: 2 YEAR: 1993 ChartFact: That's The Way Love Goes has sold over 214,000 copies. Her most downloaded '80s song is… When I Think of You! Taken from Janet's breakthrough album Control, When I Think of You reached Number 10 in 1986 and was the third of an incredible seven singles to come from that one release. It was her first chart-topper in the US. Other notable entries Janet's first ever UK Top 10 What Have You Done For Me Lately just makes it into her Top 10 most downloaded tracks (10). What Have You Done for Me Lately was the 60th bestselling single of 1986 and has shifted over 252,000 copies. Her most recent Top 40 hit, Call On Me, a team-up with rapper Nelly, finishes two spots above at 8. Janet's most recent single No Sleeep makes an appearance already – it's at Number 19. Bonus ChartFact: Janet's first ever chart entry was way back in 1984. The song? Why, it was a duet called Two To The Power Of One. And her duetting partner? Well, it was Cliff Richard, actually. No, for real. The track peaked at Number 83. Free Fallin' by Tom Petty. Never even charted in the top 60 until 2012 - and even then only got to number 59

I wish Heaven Is a Halfpipe had at least made the top 3, Chasing Cars at least the top, and Stacy's Mom the top 10. Those are my three favourite songs of all time.

Shocked at how low Rock Your Body is
  16. I'm eagerly anticipating some all-time stats and sales figures. The last update we got was two years ago, but some albums (such as Thriller, Bad and Bat Out of Hell) haven't been updated since 2012, the same year we got the all-time singles, and some others are 7-10 years out.

Who the hell is buying/listening to I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day in May?
  18. Right now, 100 streams equals 1 sale, but as streaming has increased by almost 500% in less than two years, 100/1 seems way to low for today's market. In my opinion it should be changed to 1 sale for every 500 streams, otherwise "sales" will become out of control
  19. It's been proven to not be true
  20. It's all change for Robbie Williams, as the singer today (May 9) has announced that he has signed to Sony Music and will release a new album later this year. After six years at Universal Records, the star will put out his as-yet-untitled 11th studio album on Sony subsidiary Columbia in the coming months. "The team at Sony are professional, incredibly hungry, and have a great energy" Robbie said of the move. "They're inspired, I'm inspired. I'm more ready than I ever have been and I'm totally convinced I'm in the right place. I look forward to working on this album, which is an album I'm immensely proud of, in this exciting new partnership with Sony Music." Robbie is one of the UK's most successful albums artists ever, racking up 11 Number 1s on the Official Albums Chart and shifting over 70 million records worldwide. Check out his full chart history here. Chairman and CEO of Sony Music UK Jason Iley added: “We are delighted to be working with Robbie. This is a once in a lifetime signing with the biggest male solo artist of our generation. Robbie Williams is one of the most charismatic, unique and creative artists this country has ever produced and his incredible achievements continue to make him one of the most successful in the world today. "When he met the team, there was an immediate connection and we are immensely proud to be releasing what is sure to be an album that defines an exciting new chapter for Robbie." http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/r...is-year__14836/

Maybe, maybe not. I went to the BPI's database and it says Bridge over Troubled Water is 10x Platinum, even though it got a 2x Platinum certification only last year
