  1. Oh, I love, love the Bee Gees - fab group. I really like TT's version but I'm obviously in the minority :) The slant they put on EC in An Audience With is exactly what I've been saying for sometime Jay. The acoustic version was so, so lovely. They keep to the same arrangements for each tour with very minor changes. I wish they would put more effort into the musical arrangements in the same way they do with the production elements. For example, the changes they made to CIBM on the BW tour were simply lovely and a great improvement on the quicker version which they seem to prefer. Similarly I like the version of AMLS from one of their old tours, sorry I can't remember which one, but Howard and Gary were sitting at keyboards and the other three were sitting behind them. I reckon even stalwarts such as BFG and Pray could be revamped in some way. I know I'm going off topic here but if they are going to tour as a 3 next year before the 25 anniversary tour with Rob ( assuming he jumps on board) I'd like them to go outside of the box and sing a lot of the B sides and songs which haven't been aired such as WAFD, Butterfly, Rocketship etc. Too many songs haven't been heard live which is such a shame.
  2. Thanks for the research - interesting. It does suggest they possibly missed an opportunity to strengthen their fan base across the world. Did they ever get a foot hold in Eastern Europe/Russia I wonder? I know that Rob has or had a strong base in South America and has had big crowds at his Eastern Europe and Asia concerts. Following their return in 2005/6 there wasn't a concerted effort by TT to make inroads anywhere outside of some European countries, although they did a couple of trips to Asia and a half hearted promotional trip to Australia if I remember correctly.
  3. I think the BFG video is quite iconic and enhances the record rather than detracts from it. I'm surprised that more people haven't voted for BFG as it's by far their greatest achievement song writing wise. Whilst it's not my favourite TT song, I recognise its' merits and strengthens. I wonder how things may have turned out if TT had capitalised on the success of that single? They essentially broke up at the height of their success making inroads into the US market after many years of trying. If Rob had stayed perhaps they would have become a world wide success? They were already strong in parts of Europe, Asia and Australia. Whilst I wasn't a fan back then I have clear memories of the period immediately following their break up. Rob released a cover of a GM song if I recall which didn't set the world alight and the release of Angels really was a last throw of the dice. If that single hadn't taken off there's every possibility that Rob would have been dropped by his record label or at least faded into the shadows with medium UK success only. The success of Angels set off a chain of events and Rob grasped his opportunities with both hands. In relation to now; given the way the singles market works it's conceivable that neither TT or Rob will secure another No 1 record. For TT to stand any chance they would need to release a physical copy in sufficient numbers to off set streaming. I rarely download but love physical copies/B sides - and I know I'm not alone in that respect. As for the forum poll I think BFG and Patience both represent the best of TT.
  4. Interesting you said that Slowdown. I bought the album the other day and I've been playing it in the car. They had songs such as Nobody Else and HBTT but they decided to release a cover version for their last single- a very strange decision. Milly, in relation to EC I love the song. Wondering if you like the acoustic spin they put on it at the start of An Audience With? I think it's absolutely gorgeous! I wish they'd do a similar version on tour.
  5. This is a very difficult choice, Pippa. I love EC, Pray, NF etc. I'm sure many would go for BFG as I guess it's their biggest selling song world wide and the song most associated with TT. Whilst I appreciate it's a wonderfully crafted classic pop song it's never been a favourite of mine. On balance I would choose Patience. Wonderful harmonies, great lead vocal, excellent orchestration and lyrics. In general a classic and memorable pop song.
  6. I know many dislike Sure. However, I quite like it. From my perspective the weakness on the list is Babe. Although not a fan back in those days I remember liking the video but disliking the song itself. It's a weak song which lacks a killer chorus and the vocals are lamentable.
  7. Thanks, Jay. Glad you had a fantastic time. Where were you positioned in the park? We weren't able to see the main stage properly because we were so far back and therefore had to make do with the camera angles on the big screen. I thought the sound was excellent and clearer than many an arena tour. Because of our position we didn't get the full impact of the visuals but the video clips look exceptional. I'd loved a DVD of the show to get the full experience of it. By the way did you go in early enough to hear some of the other acts? People next to us went in quite early and said many of the acts were very good. I have to say that the atmosphere at the concert was by far the best I've experienced since Circus. I'd go as far as to say that the crowd were an integral part of the night's success and I genuinely think the lads were over coming with the reception they received. Howard in particular seemed quite emotional towards the end. I don't think they expected to play such a big venue as a threesome. I also hope they recognise that they don't need overly lavish productions - and that less is sometimes more.
  8. Posting from London after a hard day sight seeing!! Last night - blessed with lovely weather, a gorgeous back drop and the most wonderful atmosphere. The crowd consisted of so many different ages ranges but throughout the night from the first song to the last there was such a lovely feeling. As for the review - for Olly fans. A really good entertainer/performer and the most perfect warm up act for TT. I don't think his song catalogue is that strong but he's a consummate performer and the crowd loved him. TT - a lovely, lovely concert. The start was beautiful and similar to the start of the BW tour. It was a great opening because it allowed for crowd participation right from the off. The vocals were great throughout and generally the set list was strong. The visuals were absolutely beautiful and the fact that they couldn't have too much of a production due to the venue actually went in their favour. The production they did have was strong and it was a beautiful back drop which enhanced rather than distracted from the show. Highlights for me, surprising as I'm not a fan of the song but RMF went down incredibly well, Cry was a stand out and SIA and Pray were brilliant. RTW at the end of the show with the fireworks was stunning and quite emotional to be a part of . I couldn't see the main stage as I was positioned at the back but luckily in front of the big screen but as the sound was so good we all felt part of the show. The crowd participation from beginning to end was tremendous and all in all it was one of their best shows. If I have to put a negative spin on the night it would be this - the set list was too short and they performed for under 2 hours. There should have been at least 3 more songs included and I was a little disappointed that they didn't include either WYBTFM or CMH or even Eight Letters. I would also have liked a spin on some of the song as the arrangements largely mirrored previous concerts - so it was somewhat predictable and I felt they could almost have 'phoned ' the performance in. EC was rather strange at the start, I think there may have been a timing issue but it was stronger as it went along. Overall, a fantastic concert and a privilege to be part of.
  9. Good question Milly. The last time I did this kind of venue was the Rolling Stones in the 80's!!! It was so long ago I can't remember how I got by. To be honest it's my biggest worry. Not to be too graphic but I'm going to reduce my fluid intake as much as possible and 'go' before the crowds get to big. After that it's a case 0f crossing my legs and hoping for the best. They'd better be good :)
  10. I am so pleased for them. They must continually wonder how long it will all go on for. Pride must also come into it. People will be aware that they've sold multiple stadium shows so at least they can hold their heads up high. Surprised about Beyoncé - I thought her shows had sold out, although I was aware that there were sales issues for Rihanna's tour. Weather looks like it will hold out for the show. Finished work and catching the coach to London tomorrow. Beginning to get quite excited. I really hope Hyde Park measures up to their other shows. :)
  11. Have a fab time Laura. Sounds like it will be a good one. Kath, Howard had a bit of a 'rant' re the EU referendum. Nothing major but he made his feelings plain with regard to the outcome :)
  12. Thanks Milly. Howard did get rather heated on the political front. Luckily Gary kept out of the political storm - can you imagine if he's posted his views all hell would have broken out. I haven't been to London since 2009 so taking the opportunity to head down to Wimbledon on the Sunday. I don't have tickets for the tennis but at least we can mill around the area and soak up the atmosphere. And Kath I don't believe it - you're made of sterner stuff than that:) I have to admit that part of me is dreading it. I thought I'd be able to take a fold up chair into the park, but no. I'll have to sit on the hard ground because there's no way I can stand for more than 2 hours. Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather holds because I don't fancy rain and mud. As for the toilet situation- the least said the better :) I hated outdoor venues like Hyde Park in the 80's when I was a mere youngster, so heaven knows how I'll cope on Saturday !! Apparently the CK show was amazing. It would have been a fantastic experience to hear her sing all those songs from the 70's. For those of you too young to know much about CK check her out. Whilst her voice isn't the strongest, it has a quirky quality and her songs are simply timeless. I've been listening to her on You Tube and will be going out to buy the album in the next week or so. I've lost so much of my album collection from the 70's and 80's so I'm on a mission to replenish my stock. Gary has posted a couple of messages about the show. I think they're excited but perhaps somewhat nervous, I just hope they do themselves justice. Aphrodite, I'll make sure to post comments on Olly as I'll be in the park before he takes the stage.
  13. Milly, I should have held off purchasing tickets. I don't buy on line but currently there are GA tickets going for just under £40. I wanted premium view tickets and held out as long as possible but I couldn't justify the price, even accounting for the price reductions. The VIP type tickets are still very high particularly diamond view right at the front. I'm afraid we'll be right at the back, which looking at the size of the park will be some considerable distance from the main stage. I don't know about Florence but CK tickets were priced higher than TT due to supply/ demand as most tickets now go through secondary sites. SW tickets prices are still exceptionally high due to the huge demand for them. I considered going to see him on the Sunday as I'll still be in London but I can't afford the prices and tickets are hard to come by. I am very surprised to see that TT haven't sold out. I imagine that many people outside of London can't afford the travelling/accommodation costs but I would have thought there was sufficient demand in and around London to have made it a sell out some time ago. I hope TT are on longer than an hour - I'm expecting a full 2 hour set!!! I won't be going into the park immediately the gates open, but hope to be in there for 4ish in time to see a number of the warm up acts, most of whom I've never heard of :)
  14. Thought I'd flag this thread up as the concert draws ever closer. I know it's a small forum but I think a few of us have tickets so it would be nice to have some reviews of the show. Interestingly I've been following BST over the past week or so. It seems that Florence, Carole King and Stevie Wonder are sold out. Florence's set was a few days ago and Carole King was last night - very envious of those who had tickets to see her. She's a masterful songwriter and her compositions have really stood the test of time. Wondering why TT haven't managed to accomplish what the above three have? Although some tickets were floating around for CK and there are still some available for SW on the BST website they're publicised at sold out, whereas there's a healthy supply for TT with prices coming down. TT did around 8 nights at Wembley for Progress and in the region of 4 or 5 for the Circus, as well as multiple shows elsewhere in the country. I'm therefore puzzled as to why they haven't sold out one night at Hyde Park?
  15. Overall, I think RTW probably translates better live than Patience, but only by a whisker. Having said that, the live performance of Patience at Wembley (Circus) tour was absolutely stunning. Both of those songs on that tour were unbelievably moving. I've no doubt they will be on the Hyde Park set list. Will be so pleased if they even get close to the Wembley performances. And Milly, Gary's performance at CFC was indeed fab. I may be wrong but I think it wasn't long after his father passed away.
  16. An almost impossible choice. Both songs are wonderful in their own right and I would award both 10. If someone twisted my arm I'd go with RTW. The start of the song has a pure and magical quality and the remainder of the song showcases TT harmonies wonderfully. This coupled with the beautiful melody and soaring orchestration is the reason why I've placed it above Patience. However, if Patience came out on top I wouldn't be disappointed in the slightest. To hear both songs live at Wembley Stadium (Circus Tour) was simply magical. Without doubt two of the best pop singles released by a UK artist in the past 20 years. Thinking about each song makes me yearn so much for a return to this sound. Roll on Hyde Park :)
  17. Must admit I didn't know Adele had a new single out. If it's her second single from 25 she doesn't appear to be doing as well as she did with releases off 21. Cry seems to be holding up relatively well if streaming is taken out of the equation. I thought after the initial week it would quickly disappear out of the top 100, so all in all it's slightly more positive than I initially envisaged.
  18. Seriously !!!! :( If indeed it has strong electronic elements I'll give up. Who is leading this direction? Surely they can see it's not popular with the public and sales are low for this genre? I'm not one to be too negative or pre-empt it's lack of success but I can't see how an electronic/acoustic album will produce a cohesive sound. Their success has come from MOR ballads, strong lyrics with lovely orchestration and harmonies. To move too far away from their traditional sound is simply career suicide. I'd like to know who came up with this poor, poor decision? Gary's recent original work has largely followed the traditional TT sound, but the band seem to have moved in a strange and in my view, awful direction. My god if they produce anything along the lines of Hey Boy - I foresee major, major problems with marketing the album. I have real concerns about the selling power of this release. Most of us have said they need to recapture the winning formula of the BW/Circus era, instead they appear to be persisting with a sound which will ultimately fail. I know the lads are very much in control of their work but surely there's someone in the record company with the foresight to honestly tell them the direction they're going in is the wrong one.
  19. They were fortunate to have the TV coverage and promotion they did in the early stages of their comeback, far more than comparable artists. In recent years they haven't had that advantage and suffered accordingly. Other artists haven't have significant TV promotion but have still sold very well. It seems that TT need TV coverage to maximise their sales and garner public interest. Given the lack of radio support television will become interestingly important for them. I do believe lll would have sold in greater numbers if they'd scheduled a TV special as they did for previous albums. BW was indeed handled very well and I agree that WFL was a lamentable choice for a single; great video but not single worthy. There were far better options, some of which have already been mentioned. Any future campaigns need to be handled expertly. However, given the record company's track record I'm dubious about any significant improvements in this area. Sadly, unless they produced fantastic music of the calibre of Patience or RTW I foresee a further downturn in sales.
  20. Thanks Milly. :) Still enjoy dipping in and out and reading everyone's opinions but decided to limit my posts. Interested to see some consensus in terms of songs such as CMH,WYBTFM and HBTT. Unfortunately, doubt very much that all three will make the cut for the next tour. If the tour mirrored the main choices of this poll it would be fantastic, but certain songs will always take priority. One criticism I have of the band is their reluctance to 'mix things up' a bit, consequently some wonderful songs rarely, if ever, receive an airing. I guess given their longevity in the business and their extensive back catalogue this will always prove to be a stumbling block.
  21. I don't know if my vote was registered, but sorry Milly but couldn't get it down to 10, really couldn't. Assuming my original 10 was register these are the other I would also go for: Wait Eight Letters Don't Say Goodbye The Day The Work Is Done LAHAM WCIWUWY Another Crack I think I voted for: Nobody Else, Holding Back The Tears, LINLUAA, Butterfly, Sleepwalking, SIA, WYBTDM,CMH, We All Fall Down, AKSIL ?
  22. I've made somewhat of a u turn. I've previously championed lll and heavily criticised Progress. Over the past week I've been listening to Progress /Progressed a lot and on balance I think I actually prefer it to lll !!!!! To qualify my position - I positively dislike/hate most of the songs off the Progress album but there are certain songs: TF, Wait, Flowerbed, Eight Letters and WWWY and WTWWD that I really love. I also like Happy Now and Love, Love. In terms of lll I now realise that I only love WYBTFM although I like TD, Higher Than Higher, CMH, Freeze and a couple of others. For these reasons I've gone with Progress/Progressed. However, neither album hold a candle to BW or The Circus. I don't quite know what's happened to TT song writing direction but overall their earlier work was of a much higher quality.
  23. Without question The Flood. TD is a catchy pop song but nothing out of the ordinary. TF is a well crafted song. It blends all their voices together in a cohesive way and lyrically and melodically it's a captivating piece of music. TF is the kind of song TT should be producing, but for whatever reason they've gone down a different path . In my view their musical direction has been detrimental to their popularity which they may find difficult, if not impossible, to recapture.
  24. I said I wouldn't post again relating to this topic but I wanted to reassure Bond Bug. I think the post you've tagged from Kath was actually in relation to me - so please don't worry.
  25. Sorry Bond Bug I'm somewhat confused? Rob said he was going to leave -so they said go he could go immediately - they didn't try to stop him but by that time Rob had already disengaged from the band Gary has sung lead vocals on many other songs - why all the criticism for this one? Yes , who gives the best vocal is relevant. Mark was the right fit for Shine, Howard for NF. It's essential the right person sings the right song Sorry, don't understand your comment about demotion? Sorry, don't understand your comment regarding Gary being too timid? Is that sarcasm ? I'm sure Mark and Howard are more than capable of having views and opinions I'm not going to post any further comments on this topic. I think there's now a slightly unpleasant element to it - so I'm bowing out as views are too divergent and I can't see any consensus or agreement being reached other than continued personal comments being directed at band members.
