The Nation's Favourite Queen Song.
I would be surprised if Flash was in there, apart from that it looks about right. My fave Queen era is the Miracle album. I want It all, Breakthru (one of their best songs imo) Invisable man, Headlonmg etc. None of those will probably be in the chart :(

Why don't ballads to as well as they used to?
I think also with the huge popularity in club culture, has given way to the demise of the ballad. Years ago a slow song was played at the end of the school disco, but clubs dont tend to go in for that kind of thing

Why don't ballads to as well as they used to?
I think it helps if when an artist release a ballad, they also make it available with remixes, I know that is why a lot of ballads were successful in the 90's like Celine Dion and Toni Braxton, the cd singles came with remixes as extra tracks

Why don't ballads to as well as they used to?
I think they have dramatically reduced since the demise of Boyzone and Westlife

Not as good this week, Dana and Cats were dreadful. Brain teaser: what do these no.1 acts have in common Johnny Kidd /Pirates, Dr Hook & Gabrielle?

"Something wrong happens to music when you turn 26"
The music from my teens will always mean more to me than anything else, but I don't tend to think of music as being 'my era' or ' my time', for me theres just good music and bad music. Whether it be from the 60's or from now .

Top of the Pops on BBC4
Another good show this week. Legs & Co looked as if they had slept in for TOTP and didnt have time to get dressed before coming to the studio :o But I'm not complaining :D For those who like facts, Matumbi included Dennis Bovell, also a songwriter/producer who wrote and produced the lovers rock hit Silly Games by Janet Kay.

The 2014 Children In Need Single
Perfect Day was excellent, probably more so because the Lou Reed version, although a classic was not exactly firmly in the pop mould. Whereas covering a Beach Boys pop classic, although good it is considerably weaker than their last effort. Will it get to no.1... God Only Knows! Sorryy couldnt resist.

Top of the Pops on BBC4
From the Tourist onwards was great! For those interested the 8 previous acts to have their first two hits goto no.1 were 1 Stargazers 2 Tennessee Ernie Ford 3 Adam Faith 4 Gerry & The Pacemakers 5 Mungo Jerry 6 Rod Stewart (Reason To Believe peaked at 19 - however this was the b side of maggie May, which is the same single.) 7 John Travolta 8 Art Garfunkel Not as you may expect, no Beatles, Elvis, Rolling Stones, Slade or any other major chart acts that may first come to mind. 9 Gary Numan

John's 1974 Charts
Hooked on a feeling is such a good tune, I first became aware of it when Tarrantino used the Blue Swede version on the soundtrack to the Resiviour Dogs. It was written by Mark James who famously wrote a ton of hits for Elvis including Suspicuos Minds, Always On My Mind, Moody Blue etc.

How obsessive chart fan are you
Ive been chart watching for 26 years, but of more recent less obsessed about chart facts - like longest stays at no.1 (not that we get any anymore anyhow..) and sales figures and more pop historian/chart fan. I kind of agree with Popchartfreak we need a movement of some sort and there needs to be a greater variety of genres in the charts.
