  1. On the subject of quizzes, heres a question name a BRITISH all girl group that made the UK top 20 during the sixties. I dont know how many there is,but I can only think of two.
  2. Can never really get into Ian Dury. And who would have guessed that 20 years later Britney Spears would bring out the sequel to their big number one.....Baby Hit Me One More Time!
  3. Got some info on All Blue. This is taken from Hit Music Newsletter I used to subscribe to between 1993-2001. Gave info on all singles and albums new entries. They were siblings Ed & Henry Johnson, their only hit was self penned and produced by Mike Peden (of the Chimes-he also produced Lighthouse Family amongst others)
  4. Paul Evans - just been searching this guy, he is a serious hitmaker has written hits When (Kalin Twins, Showaddywaddy), Johnny Will (Pat Boone) Roses Are Red (Bobby Vinton -US#1) Lets Pretend (Lulu) aswell as writing many songs for Elvis Presley. He also recorded hits in the early 60's too. Also the producer of his hit This Is Joannie was Jimmy Wisner - had a hit in 1961 as Kokomo with Asia Minor, has arranged many hits and most notably wrote Dont Throw Your Love Away #1 for The Searchers.
  5. Legs & Co were a bit revealing for the BBC considering it was 1979! :o
  6. According to Wikipedia, the YMCA dance originated on 6th January 1979 whilst they were performing on the Dick Clark Tv show in US, the Audience began diong it and it has stuck ever since.
  7. yes I reguarly listen to POTP, and I have noticed this too, also they very rarely do any years after 1991. Which is a shame as I love alot of the 90's music..
  8. You could just do acts that have charted since 2010 onwards, as that is where the book edition left off. It would be alot easier and quicker for yourself. but say if an act charts that had hits before 2010 you'd give their full chart details. so it'd exclude acts like The Shadows etc who havent charted for decades and likely won't again.
  9. I was going to mention an idea of an online BHS, but thought it was such a mammoth task that no one would want to take it on. So congrats to fchd for this.
  10. On Pick Of The Pops they countdown the top 20 from this week back in a particular year, aand on this particular week it was 1989 and Jive Bunny Lets Party was no.1
  11. Looking back through the records, 2013 is the first year that we have had four singles sell a million within the calender year since 1998!

They could have easily done another three hour show as there are soo many great songs that have never charted.
  13. I'm surprised that My Sweet Lord George Harrison is not a million seller yet. However I think there is a difference in opinion between Alan Jones and other sources to its original 1971/6 sales.
  14. The supermarkets & HMV have dropped their price of Direct Hits since after Xmas from £10-£7 (£6 in Sainsburys) so it may help boost sales
  15. The story of 1979 is on, on this Friday 9pm BBC4
  16. They played it on radio 2 the other week, (well sort of) Pick Of The Pops 1989 Jive Bunny was no.1 and there is a segment of it in that

Personally I'd choose Dobie Grey Drift Away, Michael Bolton had a hit with it but the original which never charted is far better.
  18. Ok Barron Knights was terrible, but it did kinda make me laugh! When you're working The boredom's lurking There must be something new to do The dentist's kengo, and have a little Aggro 'Cause he can take it out on you.. Aahhhhh.... (Open wider please) Aahhhhhhhhh.... (A little wider) Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh.... (This won't hurt) AAAHHHarghhhhhh... (Much) (To the tune of "Rivers of Babylon":) There's a dentist in Birmingham, he fixed my crown And as I slept, he filled my mouth with iron He said "Rinse out your mouth, with the medication spit it out In the receptacle by your side, on the right" (Gurgle, spit) NO! The RIGHT! (Gurgle, spit, CLANG) (Original song:) No-one would listen to the Smurfs in prison So they jumped over the wall A policemen saw them, he chased and caught them, this is what he asked them all: (To the tune of "The Smurf Song":) "Where are you all coming from?" We're from Dartmoor, on the run "How did you work out your route?" We followed the arrows on our suit "What were you in Dartmoor for?" We borrowed a safe from the bank next door "And why do you all talk this way?" Cause we're from Catford, ain't we, eh? Laaalaaalalalalalalalaalaa (etc...) (To the tune of "Matchstalk men":) With big rosettes and coloured scarves They go to cheer their favourite stars They all look forward to their Saturdays There's one young lad walks down our street With Bovver Boots upon his feet And an aerosol can of paint he freely sprays And he painted Grandad's Bike and next door's cats and dogs He sprayed a couple on the corner of the street that were having a snog He fell down on his can, and his aerosol went 'bang' And all they found was a flat cap and his clogs (To the tune of "The Smurf Song":) Lala lalalalaaaa Lala lalalalaaaaa etc....
  19. I think the 18000 given there must be a mistake, on average in 1992 according to Official statistic you had to sell 16,000 just to make the top 10, so it must have sold more than 18k, at an educated guess I'd say more like around 60,000 (maybe its 58k and put a 1 instead of a 5 by mistake..). Which is plausible as Call The Man just above it sold 80,000

How about a XMAS song at no.1 this year, if so would be the first time in about 10 years..
  21. IIRC Hold On by Wilson Philips and En Vogue were in the charts at the same time..
  22. This episode was good - Queen, Blondie and Elton John being the highlights for me.
  23. Maybe, whether justified or not some female singers are taken less seriously musically - maybe because they make saucy videos or they dont play any of their own instruments..
  24. Really speaking movie week is love and heartbreak week part 2!
  25. What I didnt understand why did both guests Robin Thicke & Katy Perry on Sunday perform old songs, that have already peaked and fallen down the chart? Why not promote a new song? seemed odd to me
