  1. Love this song!! Didnt realise it had made the top ten
  2. Surely its not the charts that have become irrelevant but more chart positions that have become irrelevant, as singles can now sell 1,000's every week without ever making the top 75
  3. I think Children by Robert Miles was the biggest selling single not to reach no.1 of 1996, IIRC
  4. This is quite a nice song, it was used in a TV commercial a year or so ago. It was either this version or the original not sure which.
  5. Thanks. It Might help to explain a few things.
  6. Wasnt part of the reason the 4 60's charts were so diiferent, that they all had different cut off points during the week to meet their own publication dates, hence why in RR the Beatles never debut at no.1 cause it only took in a couple of days sales. Thats the way it was explained to me by someone many years ago
  7. Good show this week. Ram Jam, Slade, Darts, Tom Robinson. Ok trvia question Mary Mason was on with her version of Angel Of The Morning, but does anyone know who took a sample of that song to number one in 2001? little Fact: Angel Of The Morning was written by the same bloke who wrote Wild Thing for the Troggs, Chip Taylor. A US hit for Merilee Rush and the Turnabouts in the 60's, The Turnanbouts Guitarist Carl was brother of Wilson Sisters from Heart! I was just reading about it yesterday, something I didnt know.
  8. Bit Off Topic , but I was wondering do you know what multipliers the BPI used in the early 90's (91-94). Were they the same as the ones used by Gallup? Iam thinking specifically about the average weekly sales per position the the BPI produced annually.
  9. The american charts always had better music imo around 1973-5
  10. I noticed this aswell, its a common mistake that 4music make with countdowns. Singles who's sales dont fall completley within one calender year, i.e Boh Rap sold in 1991 and also was still selling significantly in 1992- they always miss out the following years sales! However it is not clear where they have got the figure of 670k from- as Bo Rhap actually sold 718,000 to the end of 1991! Its overall 90's sales should be 970,000 (it sold 1,190,000 in 1975/6)
  11. Its a pity they didnt include the download sales asweel for this book. It would have been interesting to see what physical sales they arrived at for some of the older releases that weren't in the 2002 book.
  12. I think Sonny Bono wrote Needles & Pins, if I remember right.
  13. The guy from Golden Earring was later responsible for all the Stars On 45 medley hits in the early 80's.. David Essex was on BBC Breakfast this morning
  14. ELO

Great show. It was really more about Lynnes work with The Beatles and Travelling Wilburys than ELO. Didnt realise he had produced Tom Petty, however I should have known as I Wont Back Down which he cowrote and produced is my fave Tom Petty song! The Rock Family Tree Show was excellent. Did they make any other programmes like that about other acts? If so they should repeat them, very enjoyable!
  15. I think John Lennon is the only act to achieve more than one posthumous number one. I cant think of any others. Buddy Holly did have one with It Doesnt Matter Anymore. Which was a bit of insensitive title for someone who had just died! I watched the one from 1973 aswell, however I wasnt keen on Kenny Everett as a presenter.
  16. Speaking of ELO. On BBC 4 this Friday they are devoting a whole evening of programmes to Jeff Lynne and ELO, which I'm looking forward to
  17. Great chart I love Lloyd dedecation one of my faves from last year, the video with the talking cat is quite amusing, always reminds me of Sabrina The Teenage Witch a childrens show that used to be on TV many years ago. Thank god for The Beatles, listening to some of those really old records before 1963 almost sends me to sleep lol.
  18. I have their Regetta Da Blanca album which is one of their best imo
  19. Little fact about one of the songs on this weeks show- The Adverts hit Gary Gilmores Eyes was inspired by the mass murderer who asked for his eyes to be donated to science after his execution.

Evelyn King Love Come Down is a good song, one of her best.
  22. Carly Simon's bond theme is the only one that was a hit not to have the films name in its title, however it is mentioned within the lyrics of the song. My fave bond theme is License To Kill by Gladys Knight, probably closely followed by Live & Let Die by Wings

  24. it was the B side of Man Of The World, heres the link for it on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0U-eef6OyQ
  25. I like some of the Macs early releases before Buckingham and Nicks joined in the 70's. Man of the world and Oh Well are excellent early hits. Their last top ten hit was Everywhere in 1988 if I remember right. Rooms On Fire as ChartFreak suggested is an excellent song. According to Guinness World Records Rumours has sold 40 million :o
