When everyone from Sugababes to Sharleen Spiteri is doing 1960s soul pastiches, it's with great timing that the large-lunged proponent of plastic soul should return. While her thunderous vocal shredding is thankfully kept in check, her toe-curling lyrics are not. Despite the appearance of some of the most significant writers and producers of the past decade (Rodney Jerkins, Ne Yo, J.T. Rotem, Guy Chambers), Anastacia sounds stuck in some cheap-sounding version of the past. Worst offenders are the Magaluf techno of the title track and the lumpen Neva Gonna Love Again. Charmless. 2/5 * SOURCE: TIMES ONLINE
  9. Anastacia will be in Rome on 15th November. Italians fans can win a meet and greet with her through an Italian radio called RDS. Source: Foreverfreak

Anastacia was interviewed on a local radio station in Bristol on the 27th October, I just found the interview and a small picture of her with Kevin Huges in the studio below along with the posted article. It's interesting, she talks about defeated and stuff http://www.anastaciadreams.com

Hello Anastacia, how are you? “I’m great thanks! I’m in our flat in Richmond looking at this gorgeous sunset beaming in the window - it’s a lovely day and I can’t go outside…” Just like us! You’re living in the UK at the moment - how are you finding that? “I love it now we’re living in Richmond - it has a great country/city vibe to it. I mean, one minute you can see a cow, then five minutes later you’re in Top Shop. It’s like our house in LA - we live in the hills among trees, but you’re only five minutes from the city.” So tell us a bit about your new single I Can Feel You… “I’m really lucky to have my new single written and produced by Ne-Yo. My new record company Mercury asked if he’d mind writing a song for me and it turns out he loves my music. The new single is spot-on for what I’m going through in my life - it’s about feeling love everywhere, for your family, your job, your husband.” So he summed up your life in three minutes? “Yes, he really did and I said straight away, that’s the first single! I was lucky enough to get two delicious songs out of Ne-Yo too.” The video’s a bit risqué at times… “I know - even I was surprised at my own raciness! I was a bit like ‘Woah!’, but I have to say, the day after I did it I steered clear of the papers. It was done in a day too - at the moment, the music industry has about three dollars to make a video, and you’re like ‘Great!’ So you have to get creative. There’s a tattoo on my back in the video, but it wasn’t real because we didn’t have time to put it on. So I went the day after the shoot and got it done properly - it took six hours.” Ouch. “I know, I’m crazy - but I’m an all or nothing kind of girl.” Your new album is called Heavy Rotation and has a whole bunch of collaborations, including Ne-Yo, Guy Chambers and Rodney Jerkins. You pleased with the outcome? “Absolutely - I’m promoting a happy album and I’ve never done that before! (Laughs) I feel corny liking my own album - I never have been in the past because they came from misery. Left Outside Alone, I’m Outta Love, One Day In Your Life - oh my god, I could go on about the pitiful songs I’ve written about my miserable life. (Laughs) Now every song is about happiness, which is great!” You were discovered on MTV talent show The Cut - what do you think of all the shows that are on TV these days like Pop Idol and X Factor? Are you a fan of Leona Lewis? “I’m a complete fan! She’s darling and she’s from my husband’s hometown of Hackney, so she gets the thumbs up! I don’t want to like those shows, but they’ve come out with some amazing talent. Look at Girls Aloud, Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson - they all have serious careers now. And it’s not just the winners - I didn’t win my show, but thank god I was on it!” And are you watching this season’s X Factor? “Oh my god yes! I’m flying to Spain tomorrow and I’m mortified! I was like ‘what do you mean? Can’t we reschedule till Sunday?’ I won’t be able to avoid it either will I? I’ll find out through the paper. It’s sickening! (Laughs)” Who would you like to win? “I’m loving all of Cheryl’s girls and Dannii’s girls too. The boy band may have to grow on me - I’m waiting for the younger boys to come through too.” You said after your illness that your voice changed - how it is feeling these days? “It changed during the radiation treatment - as they put more and more into you, pieces of you start to get taken away. I never really knew what would come back vocally and the doctors didn’t know either as it wasn’t a question they’d been asked before. But it turned out OK - I was able to do a year-long tour after I recovered and sing all my hits, so it’s fine.” That’s great to hear. You’ve created some memorable pop anthems in your time - is there one you wish you’d recorded? “So many! Gniles Barkley’s Crazy; Pussycat Dolls’ Dontcha; Beyonce’s Survivor and Independent Woman. Also, Madonna’s Music: when that song comes on I dance like a maniac, and one with no rhythm at all!” Talking of that, what do you do when one of your songs comes on the radio? “I get really shy! (Laughs) Honestly, if I’m in a store I have to leave. Shy is not something that I normally am at all, so my friends all find it very funny. I’ve been getting a kick out of seeing my poster in London though - I scream and want to jump out of the car and take a picture. That’s pretty corny isn’t it?” Not really - we’d do the same! What’s next - are you touring? “Middle of next year - but I have to create it first. It’s going to be a big world tour, but I won’t start thinking about it until I’ve finished promoting this record - I can’t do both at once!” What’s the most played song on your MP3 player? “I have an old ipod that I use as an alarm clock - I’m so not a music person. I just write music and sing it. I’m far more of a television person. Ask me what my favourite boxset is…” What’s your favourite boxset? “Entourage, Rescue Me, Alias, 24, ER, Grey’s Anatomy - these shows keep me alive when I’m on the road!” Thanks Anastacia - good luck with the album!
