  1. I wonder if anyone heard about the band Phantogram? http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/7988/phantogram1.jpg Phantogram is an experimental trip-hop/psych-pop duo from Saratoga Springs, NY, formed in 2007. The band members are Josh Carter (vocals, guitars) and Sarah Barthel (vocals, keyboards). From band's myspace page: "Their music is a mix of organic and electronic sounds, with swirling guitar, spaced-out synths, and chopped up samples and rhythms." Before Phantogram, the band had another name (Charlie Everywhere) for a short time. The word "phantogram" means a form of optical illusion. The band released in September 2009 their debut album Eyelid Movies in Europe (February 2010 in the USA). This album was entirely written, produced and recorded by Phantogram. Read some reviews here. It's really excellent and I highly recommend you to listen to it. If you like School of Seven Bells, M83, Slowdive, Warpaint, The xx, Sleigh Bells then I'm sure you will like their music. Not yet! ^_^ They never said the band split for good. In fact they said they're on hiatus (since 2005). Now it's time to go back in business. Well, she was a Terminator. But I prefer her singer role...

NEW ALBUM CONFIRMED! Edinburgh-born Manson, 44, who was previously married to sculptor Eddie Farrell, also confirmed she was recording a new album with her band Garbage. “I’m working on a record right now with the band. We’ve recorded quite a lot but it’s difficult to quantify,” she said. “It’s the first one in a long time. I took about five years off. I’d like to do some touring next year.” She did not elaborate on the musical direction of the new album or when it would be released. “We’re just winging it right now,” she said. Rumours of a new release had been circulating since Manson hinted in February that she had been spending time in a recording studio. http://www.heraldscotland.com/mobile/news/...isley-1.1064114
  5. "Tiger Suit" is an excellent album! I like esp. Uummannaq Song, Fade Like a Shadow, Push That Knot Away, (Still A) Weirdo, Difficulty and Golden Frames.
  6. indeed, some interesting choices here

"Caesar" is her best single yet. I like also "Self Machine" and "Quicker", but the remixed (and faster) version of the last one. Check the music video: YfXKp0brz0o
  8. oh dear :( Great influences I must add. At least they are inspired by some brilliant trip-hop and electropop acts.
  9. "Wonderful Life" is one of the best songs of the last years. It's wonderfully done...
  10. The KLF - The White Room The Cranberries - Stars: The Best of 1992-2002 The Who - Who's Next
  11. Kansas City
  12. These classic videos were really innovative at their time (and they're still brilliant): Daft Punk - Revolution 909 (tomatoes!) :P 2R4h3Qsk1rg Beck - Loser (still funny after all these years) YgSPaXgAdzE Yellow Magic Orchestra - Rydeen (one of the first SF themed music videos / 1979) sk6o4GWFIV8 Garbage - Push It (totally crazy video) z-CHEnJ7gnc The Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar 1wQOn1NNXPo Enigma - Return to Innocence (one of the best videos ever made!) jDGD4mLC04E Röyksopp - Eple (all their music videos are at least interesting. check them out!) NBiRcAmmJVY Aphex Twin - On (directed by Jarvis Cocker) B-US91WU8zA Radiohead - Just (WTF?!) sKFkLNjPXns Pink Floyd - Time OPBYLDqUwQk Orbital - The Box q25Zx6B5HJA New Order - Blue Monday '88 (classic!) BGbr32Hn3bo Moloko - The Flipside tJTZoRxpbLE Underworld - Cowgirl EfH8qHFvEEY Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene 4 (one of the first music videos with nature theme; also video is synchronized with audio) rD8dZGffkzQ FSOL - My Kingdom (quite creepy) bjQqMDLUaRQ Depeche Mode - Barrel of a Gun (mindblowing!) xIrNAhc1HjY Orbital - The Saint (very original concept! lot of fun) DdoRdK6_bsg Futureshock - Late at Night (wicked!) avNIo9ojg8o Playgroup - Number One (a robot dancing like Jamiroquai, MJ, Angus Young and so on. you must see this!) TOHWssbO8tU OK Go - This Too Shall Pass (ok, this is recent but trust me, it's unbelievable! btw it's not that treadmill video...) qybUFnY7Y8w Robyn - With Every Heartbeat (feat. Kleerup) (again this video is pretty recent but this belongs to the list of best pop music videos. the concept is perfect!) 3vfLvZCdT9g
  13. now: Underworld - Jumbo next: Primal Scream - Higher Than the Sun
  14. Robyn is one of the very few pop singers that matters. As a big electronic music fan I like esp. her S/T album and Body Talk series (only Pt.1 now). Gaga & all manufactured s#!t (a big part of this top) are far away from the amazing talent of this Swedish singer/songwriter/producer. PS anyone heard about Roisin Murphy (ex Moloko) or Annie (the Norwegian singer)?
  15. Robyn must be on top 10
  16. @slowdown73: Robyn is the boss of her own label, Konichiwa Records. She wanted to release a 3 part album to keep the campaign fresh (and it really is fresh). I hope BT Pt.2 will be as great as the first part.
  17. Debbie Harry is a legend. She also influenced a lot the career of Shirley Manson. Watch this live performance of Call Me (a duet with Shirley): 5dJDpmK7yDQ
  18. (even I missed the voting part) Shirley Manson is my absolute favourite female artist. Love her! She should be much higher... I like also these artists from this top (till now): Bat for Lashes, Annie Lennox, Alison Goldfrapp, Charlotte Hatherley, Gabriella Cilmi, KT Tunstall, Dido, Sharleen Spiteri, Siouxsie Sioux, Elly Jackson, Likke Li, Santigold, Tina Turner, Siobhan Donaghy. PS Charlotte Hatherley (Ash) was also part of Bat for Lashes' live band and was also in Client.
  19. Celestica is definitely my favourite Crystal Castles song. Their live performance of this song at Jools was brilliant: Q95KgV-QDBc (I like also the pretty strange dance of Alice)
  20. 6 songs (but what songs!) The Field - Sun & Ice The Field is the Swedish musician Axel Willner. His album ''From Here We Go Sublime'' was the best of 2007 according to Metacritic (2nd was Burial - Untrue). A bit of patience is required because it builds slow. mhdqW7m4a9g Ladytron - Beauty*2 This song will melt your heart... jO3eFMvDn4Q Tangerine Dream - Hyperborea Haunting QxPTjPzTVdM Slowdive - Shine Sublime song! My fave shoegaze song ever dwVGPtNTYVQ Burial - Ghost Hardware Haunting (2) _MigURCQQA0 Garbage - You Look So Fine YLSF is their most ethereal song in my opinion. With superb vocals and production, this is just perfect. 'Milk' is also in the same league. vTyoanfuIr0 @Grim: I like The Gathering from what I've heard so far (two albums: if_then_else & Souvenirs). Too bad Anneke van Giersbergen (vocals) left the band a few years ago. @everyone: please post also the artist/title before embeded videos. Some people check this site with mobile phones (sometimes) and can't see the videos.
  21. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Skeletons The music video is perfect for this surreal song 6ZnIDwnWJtA Tricky - Overcome Vocal: Martina Topley-Bird This is a strong contender for the best ethereal song 6V26zxH_JMk Goldfrapp - Pilots ydNbuB6PLiU Way Out West - The Gift Very addictive! lIkuduk0JMM Bruce Springsteen - Streets of Philadelphia This track has an ethereal vibe on it oYLr9FtYtME @tonyttt31 / Jester: the vocal part is performed by Alison Goldfrapp on both songs (Orbital - Dwr Budr / Tricky - Pumpkin)
  22. New batch: :) Orbital - Halcyon + On + On One of my top 10 fave songs ever made foMca6BoPhw William Orbit ft. Beth Orton - Water From a Vine Leaf PneAIfv30jA Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene 2 esp. the last 2/3 of this song is incredible! Hard to believe Oxygene was made in 1976 with few analogue synths Ek5u5jl7Ads Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene 8 uAzf6n2kcOM Underworld - Jumbo -V4DYB1I2zA Ulrich Schnauss - A Letter From Home 2jW30NL275Q Curve - Horror Head Toni Halliday's voice is just heavenly on this intense song _4xMR7mYPWU SPC ECO - For All Time New band of Dean Garcia (1/2 of Curve); if you like Slowdive, MBV, Ride etc. don't miss this track! Uc-F5VTBJyA FSOL - The Lovers Xp6AwY3bImg Ride - Vapour Trail ygGw_zo_W8A
  23. Other recommendations (worth your attention): Little Dragon - Fortune (trust me, it's a very beautiful song; you could listen to it forever) HqTbmTaPMPw Brian Eno - Just Another Day (superb!) LUOBJypHEr8 Bel Canto - Birds of Passage (vocal: Anneli Drecker -- she's like a Nordic Liz Fraser; other members: Biosphere, Nils Johanssen) yMKrqVeuKo8 Royksopp - Sparks (vocal: Anneli Drecker) vIyMPZ_s-7M Banco De Gaia - Kincajou (fab song! I've played many, many times) klyg8xcrxgs Zero 7 - I Have Seen (their best song IMO) JgshYzWZKUw The Knife - NY Hotel (only 2 min 50 sec but it 'says' a lot) _WJer5eMgbU Fever Ray - Keep the Streets Empty For Me (this song is from another dimension, it's so brilliant! Just in case you don't know: Fever Ray = Karin from The Knife) jWFb5z3kUSQ Really? What else do you listen to? Roygbiv, Aquarius and Dayvan Cowboy are three essential BoC songs.
  24. My list of ethereal music: - anything from GAS (the German musician Wolfgang Voight); his music is really ethereal - Ulrich Schnauss (every song; highly recommended) - Biosphere (the Norwegian artist Geir Jensen) - Global Communication (you definitely must listen to their two albums, esp. this one) - Aphex Twin (Selected Ambient Works 85-92 and Vol. II) - Slowdive - Cocteau Twins - Maps (only the first album) - Chapterhouse - The Orb - Jean-Michel Jarre (Oxygene, Oxygene 7-13) - Boards of Canada - Lush (esp. Gala & Spooky albums) - Robin Guthrie (the Cocteau Twins guitarist; esp. Continental album) - My Bloody Valentine (even if they're very noisy) - Waldeck - M83 - The Future Sound of London (esp. Lifeforms & Archives pt. 1-5) Aphex Twin - Xtal Q0q1gCsZykg Global Communication - 9:25 edzmk2sC2B8 The Future Sound of London - Dead Skin Cells csOw3lKXMSw M83 - We Own the Sky jqcZGK8jzuw

I'd love to see a new full electronic album. After the alternative rock of the debut, the techno-rock of V2.0, the poppy BG and the loud rock of BLM, that electronic/experimental direction would be amazing.
