I think their sound still works. Of course they should update it if they want success like in the 90s. Butch Vig said that everything they've done till 2007 is chapter one and their new album (if there will be any) will be quite different and it will be a new chapter. Now, with loads of indie bands with an electronic-rock sound, it's quite hard to be on top again.

I'd like to see these 90s bands reunited: - Garbage - Curve - Moloko - Slowdive - Leftfield (with both members, not just Barnes) - The KLF [not really a 90s band but their debut album under The KLF moniker (Chill Out) was released in 1990] - Lush (despite very weak probability) - Fluke - Apollo 440 (they seem to disappear after their 2003 album) - The Shamen - Lamb (full return, not only few shows) - One Dove (fabulous band; if you like Screamadelica by Primal Scream I recommend you to check their only album) I'm the most interested by Garbage's reunion (it's quite unofficial since the rest of the band didn't confirm they will return after Shirley said they're back in the studio for a week).
  3. Applied to join
  4. I can't count how many times I've listened to Atlas Air, Girl I Love You and Paradise Circus... Also I like very much the songs (Babel, Psyche) featuring Martina Topley-Bird (on a side note I've seen MA live in 2008 and Martina was the opening act; lovely girl). Heligoland clearly stands along the best MA albums (Blue Lines, Mezzanine). They also have the gift to gather amazing guests on their albums. Indeed 'Home' sounds like a Massive Attack production. And I'm a big fan of both bands so I know what I'm saying.

Butch Vig said in 2007 (here) their next album will be different, more ''Neil Young 'Tonight's the Night' meets Leonard Cohen meets Mazzy Star -- druggy, bummer music. Not necesarily druggy, but melancholy and bittersweet.'' Also he said somewhere else that the album production will evolve depending on the moment: it could be acoustic or even techno. Shirley put on hold her acting career so they can be more focused on making of a new album. We'll have to wait until we'll get some official confirmation from the band. Just to be sure 100%. Anyway I'm very excited because they're togheter back in the studio (other studio; the famous Smart Studios is history from this month).

This is pretty old news but it worth your attention especially if you're a big Garbage fan like me: Shirley Manson hints at new Garbage album http://akamai-static.nme.com/images/article/84_Garbage_L150306.jpg Manson dropped the hint in a message to fans posted on her Facebook page after the Grammy awards yesterday (February 1). Although she didn't explicitly say they band were recording together again, she did allude to bandmates Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig, the last of whom was celebrating Green Day's '21st Century Breakdown' (which he co-produced) picking up the Grammy for Best Rock Album. "Guess who I just spent a week in the studio with?" Manson wrote, before adding, "Would you be pleased if I said one of them was called Steve and one of them was called Duke and another was a Grammy-winning producer?" Garbage's last studio album, 'Bleed Like Me', was released in 2005. http://www.nme.com/news/garbage/49540 If they're really working on a new album I don't expect to be finished this year considering how long it took to make the previous albums. But who knows...
  7. Great record! Sounds like a mix of New Order & Underworld songs

Like russt68 said the best are Roisin Murphy, Goldfrapp, Bjork. Hard to choose one of them. I'd like to add Ladyhawke to the list even she released only one album (full of perfectly crafted songs). Even more: Ladyhawke plays all instruments in the studio, she writes her own songs, she's co-producer and has a great voice & personality. And let's not forget Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes).

  12. Disappointing #1 (Amy Winehouse) but it's your top after all... I'm surprised by your #4 (Nerina Pallot - Fires), a very good album indeed but a bit too higher. And Britney Spears & Lady gaga, : are you serious? I can't stand this "music" :puke2: Still no Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ladytron, The Knife, Royksopp, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode or on your top? Definitely you should listen to "It's Blitz!", "Witching Hour", "Silent Shout", "Melody AM", "Discovery" & "Playing the Angel" -_- EDIT: Just seen: "Because my countdown consists of all the albums I have bought/own shown on the opening post" I like these ones: 144 Nerina Pallot Dear Frustrated Superstar 2001 142 Linkin Park Hybrid Theory 2000 140 Muse The Resistance 2009 138 David Gilmour On An Island 2006 137 REM Accelerate 2008 135 Prodigy Invaders Must Die 2009 131 Regina Spektor Begin To Hope 2006 128 Radiohead Amnesiac 2001 127 Coldplay Parachutes 2000 121 Feist Reminder 2007 115 Super Furry Animals Rings Around The World 2001 109 Katie Melua Call Off The Search 2003 104 Franz Ferdinand Franz Ferdinand 2004 103 Beck Sea Change 2002 101 Alanis Morissette So Called Chaos 2004 100 Bats For Lashes Two Suns 2009 96 Little Boots Hands 2009 94 Coldplay X&Y 2005 92 Cat Power The Greatest 2006 91 Robyn Robyn 2007 89 Gorillaz Demon Days 2005 87 M.I.A Kala 2007 86 Red Hot Chilli Peppers By The Way 2002 85 Gwen Stefani Love Angel Music Baby 2004 77 Nerina Pallot The Graduate 2009 76 Duffy Rockferry 2008 73 Goldfrapp Black Cherry 2003 68 P!nk I'm Not Dead 2006 67 Alanis Morissette Under Rug Swept 2002 65 Bats For Lashes Fur & Gold 2007 64 David Bowie Heathen 2002 62 Ladyhawke Ladyhawke 2008 60 Killers Hot Fuss 2004 59 Coldplay Viva La Vida 2008 57 Manic Street Preachers Send Away The Tigers 2007 55 Goldfrapp Seventh Tree 2008 54 Kasabian West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum 2009 53 White Stripes Elephant 2003 49 Editors The Back Room 2005 48 Mylo Destroy Rock & Roll 2005 47 U2 All That You Can't Leave Behind 2000 46 KT Tunstall Eye Of The Telescope 2005 44 Green Day American Idiot 2004 43 Muse Black Holes & Revelations 2006 42 LCD Soundsystem Sound Of Silver 2007 35 MGMT Oracular Spectacular 2008 20 Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavillion 2009 19 Radiohead In Rainbows 2007 18 Keane Hopes and Fears 2004 14 Radiohead Kid A 2000 13 Goldfrapp Felt Mountain 2000 11 Arcade Fire Neon Bible 2007 9 Coldplay A Rush Of Blood To The Head 2002 8 Kate Bush Aerial 2005 7 Portishead Third 2008 4 Nerina Pallot Fires 2006 2 Arcade Fire Funeral 2005

  14. I read all reviews from this page and all pretty much sum the essence of this decade so I will not post another review, only names. For me the noughties were good enough. I'm interested by two main musical genres: electronic and rock music (in this order). Also I like some pop music (sometimes already included on the previously mentioned genres). From electronic music field, this decade gave us LCD Soundsystem, Röyksopp, Goldfrapp, Ladytron, Telefon Tel Aviv, Client, Ulrich Schnauss, Alpinestars, Planet Funk, Kraak & Smaak, The Knife, Fever Ray, Kleerup, Midnight Juggernauts, Cut Copy, Pendulum, Conjure One, Gravity Co., Mylo, Futureshock, The Avalanches, Fujiya & Miyagi, Hot Chip, Simian Mobile Disco, Télépopmusik, Marsheaux, Miss Kittin (+ The Hacker), Ellen Allien, Bent, Peter Heppner (as solo artist), FC/Kahuna, Arovane, Telepathe, Loscil, Kosheen, Lemon Jelly, múm, Crystal Castles, M83 (stargaze but still an electronic act), Rob Dougan, Sally Shapiro, Cloetta Paris, Apparat, Hybrid. These are electronic music artists that were established or released debut albums this decade. With so much brilliant electronic music, no one can complain! B) From rock/indie rock music: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kasabian, Editors, Interpol, The White Stripes, Gorillaz, The Kills, Ladyhawke, The Killers, The Postal Service, Emilie Simon, Sonic Youth, Lacuna Coil, Siouxsie, Battles, Rilo Kiley, Metric, Dntel, M.I.A., Lykke Li, KT Tunstall, Santigold, Feist, Franz Ferdinand, Animal Collective, The Strokes, Dot Allison, Coldplay, Charlotte Hatherley, Bat For Lashes, Broadcast, Arcade Fire, St. Vincent, Duffy, Keane, Katie Melua, MGMT, Tracey Thorn, Phoenix, Jem (only first album), Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs, The xx. As for pop music, few names: Róisín Murphy, Annie, Robyn, Pink, Robbie Williams, Dido, Gabriella Cilmi. The same for hip hop: OutKast, The Streets, Eminem. Other quite old acts continued to release great music: Thievery Corporation, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Garbage, Recoil, The Cure, Muse, UNKLE, Radiohead, The Orb, The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim, Faithless, RHCP, Red Snapper, Portishead, Saint Etienne, Paul van Dyk, New Order, Natalie Imbruglia, Moloko, Cranes, Massive Attack, Manic Street Preachers, Bruce Springsteen, Underworld, Orbital, Ivy, Emiliana Torrini, Gus Gus, Groove Armada, a-ha, Green Day, U2, Curve (too bad they disbanded!!), Guano Apes, David Gray (esp. "White Ladder"), Super Furry Animals, Boards of Canada, Biosphere, Björk, Apoptygma Berzerk, Air, Beck, Beth Orton, Morcheeba, William Orbit, FSOL, Chicane, Enigma, Hooverphonic, Schiller, Way Out West, Tosca, VNV Nation, Ian Brown, Kraftwerk (esp. "Minimum-Maximum"). By the way these lists are quite subjective because there are only artists I know and like. My favourite band of this decade could be Ladytron: I love (almost) every song they made and how they evolved from debut till now. :winner: Just my opinion...
  15. I don't know most of the songs from the list but I like these songs: 80 YACHT - "Psychic City (Voodoo City)" 68 Röyksopp [Feat. Robyn] - "The Girl and the Robot" 66 Julian Casablancas - "11th Dimension" 64 Annie - "Songs Remind Me of You" 58 Fever Ray - "If I Had a Heart" 55 Bat For Lashes - "Glass" 53 The xx - "Islands" 52 St. Vincent - "Actor Out of Work" 47 Yeah Yeah Yeahs -"Heads Will Roll" 43 Camera Obscura - "French Navy" 42 The Big Pink - "Velvet" 36 Fever Ray - "When I Grow Up" 31 Lily Allen - "The Fear" 18 The Big Pink - "Dominos" 16 The xx - "Crystalised" 14 Joy Orbison - "Hyph Mngo" 08 Phoenix - "Lisztomania" 06 Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Zero" 04 Bat For Lashes - "Daniel" 03 Phoenix - "1901" Yeah Yeah Yeahs -"Heads Will Roll" should be higher (even #1, why not?)
  16. In no particular order: Ladytron - Evil Goldfrapp - Ooh La La Royksopp - Poor Leno Cut Copy - Light and Music Daft Punk - One More Time The Knife - Heartbeats Faithless - We Come 1 Groove Armada - Superstylin' The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize Playgroup - Number 1 (look for its awesome video: referenced everything from Michael Jackson, Jamiroquai to Angus Young!) TOHWssbO8tU #11 could be Client - Zerox Machine

I like this band! :) Music, artwork, music videos, everything is brilliant! My fave albums are Heaven or Las Vegas, Four Calendar Cafe, Treasure, Blue Bell Knoll. HOLV is perfect, they couldn't make it any better (except a bit longer). PS 1. "Continental", the second solo album of Robin Guthrie, is as good as CT albums IMO (even without vocals). 2. Any plans for a reunion?
  18. This Must Be It is easily my fave song from "Junior"! I'm glad they will release it as a single
  19. I agree about Garbage, Blur & Roxette The rest of the list: better forget about music <_<
  20. That's another great song from "Two Suns"... PS also check some live performaces of this song
  21. (AL) posted a post in a topic in Indie, Rock and Alternative
I saw Suzanne Vega live yesterday!! @russt68: She was brilliant live! She also introduced every song to the audience and performed two songs at the encore Suzanne is not Madonna... :P And by the way: the original Tom's Diner song is an acapella song (just vocals) The dance version was made by DNA From Wikipedia: The original Tom's Diner: Z66rDVkaK4w
  22. http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/16299141/St%20Vincent%20by%20Wendy%20Lynch.jpg St. Vincent is Annie Clark born in 1982, Oklahoma, USA. She's an indie pop singer-songwriter. Her songs usually have some really distorted guitars. She released her second album Actor on 5 May 2009. It's one of the best albums of the year (Metacritic score: 81) The first single is Actor Out of Work: AZW9NYX6JZA The video is... insane!
  23. I don't think so... They sold over 40000 tickets and now the promoter should give all money back It's not easy Superb! I was very impressed by the sound quality and how great are all those classic songs (and of course the visuals). Ralf Hutter even sang a part of the chorus of Showroom Dummies in Romanian :P It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen (from a great list including Massive Attack, JM Jarre, Faithless, Underworld, Thievery Corporation, Róisín Murphy and so on). Next are Orbital, Moby, Suzanne Vega and others... I know that But there's a problem: when DM resumed Tour of the Universe (AFTER Dave recovered from illness), they re-scheduled some dates from Western Europe and we (the fans from the East) were left outside. They even added new dates. I've missed DM in 2006, now the same thing in 2009... :(
  24. I like this second single, "Peace" even the end is quite weak. Indeed it has some Kraftwerk sound on it That actress is Maria Dinulescu from Romania PS I'm very angry about cancellation of 8 shows including my city... They re-scheduled some shows but "forgot" about Eastern Europe concerts  On the other side I was lucky enough to see Kraftwerk live last week
  25. Brilliant song, I love it! Sounds a bit like Garbage (and it's my fave song from It's Blitz!) PS wtf I can't see the video? "Video not available on your country due to copyright restrictions"? where's WORLD WIDE web?
