I did end up really loving "You're Not There" after "7 Years" made me want to never hear from them again after hearing it enough. Eurgh.

I think Boyzone (among other boy bands) made them seem less bad at first.

It’s funny to get a younger perspective on Westlife - someone who didn’t have to live through their popularity  Though in retrospect, they started off alright! It just got worse when they became karaoke kings. So many number 1s
  4. "Hold My Girl" scheduled to go to radio on the 28th September (Friday) - fingers crossed it takes off! Great news! Still don’t understand what’s so special about "Shotgun" over his other 3 UK Top 10 hits but still delighted for its success. Also to see that ultra cheesy Dean Lewis track off of the top spot (makes me feel sad for Vance Joy who is so much better!)

I think it's a good decision. Khalid is already running very close to the edge of overexposure, he's not exactly versatile.
  6. Thanks for the sales, I’m astonished at how much Your Song has quietly done by comparison!
  7. Yes and yes, all agreed!
  8. Let’s not jump to conclusions so quickly! It’s only just being playlisted on radio. It deserves to be the biggest hit of the era so far, by some margin. I think Rita could have a hit in the size of Your Song this time, maybe a bit bigger but not Anywhere size?
  9. Wasn't a huge fan of this cover either! She really screeches through it. I was fine with it until my Mum pointed it out at the time. I'm okay hearing it now though and the instrumental is ace. Need to start giving "Patricia" some listens... "Big God" has been my favourite so far this era.
  10. Yeah enjoyed this, had it on whilst cooking dinner. I think she's great for background 'atmosphere' affecting music - it's not the kind of thing I'd listen to if I wanted to pay too much attention. Also prefer the songs in French!
  11. Definitely a good choice, one of my favourites from the album! Funny as I was only last week thinking, "when are we getting an announcement of a new Vance Joy single?" and here it is!
  12. I think the HRVY feature says everything about the direction of Sigala tbh :manson:

Just given it a listen, another banger. Both tracks sound so relevant - like throwbacks to what made her big in the first place, but not out of place in 2018. She should be having massive hits on the Billboard with these.
  14. "The Wolf" and "Believe" from "Wilder Mind" I still thoroughly enjoy! Loved them at the time. Became karaoke staples too :P This new one isn't hitting on first listen, but "Believe" was the same, I went on to love that one, and it feels like a similar structure.

You couldn't make it up, could you? #JusticeForSheLovesControl Confused as to the lack of push for "Real Friends"!

Wish the Rebecca Black "Friday" phenomenon had come in the right era. Would so have smashed under current rules :P
  17. I just can’t get into it. Has been hovering around the 76-100 section of my chart

"Level Up" is the definition of infectious
  19. Not fussed on the Macedonian or Norwegian offerings in this segment... I think you totally nailed it re: Levina, and is it really ANY surprise you forgot about Manel? Just how BAD was "Do It For Your Lover"? I really like "Pokusaj" for pretty much all of the reasons you state! I actually thought it reminded me more of Coldplay "Clocks" at the time, but with the whackiness thrown in. LOVE that bizarre performance. So yeah, pretty cool this one for me, one of my favourite Bosnian entries, and very memorable. That Demy song is pretty bland and uninspired really, so to see it finish just 3 above Levina says a lot I think. I don't disagree. I don't dislike either song but they hardly stand out do they? It frustrated me when they changed the lyrics of "This Is Love" because it seemed to make it even lamer.
  20. Of those two, I can't remember "Casanova" at all despite re-watching the 2008 contest last year, and I never saw the 2004 and 2005 semi finals so haven't actually heard the latter yet :o (the next contest for me to re-watch is 2003!) The three I think deserved to make the final are "Get A Life", "Salvem El Món" and "Sense Tu"!
  21. Actually you’re right on both accounts. And since my trip to Australia, I now call something that is both a 'banger' and a 'bop' a 'bangaroo' :P
  22. Can't imagine raving and misbehaving to "Girls Like You" which is what 'bop' would mean to me but each to their own! :P I don't mind the song, the level of its success surprises me though, there's not much to it, though at the same time I feel that's the appeal. That cheeky little guitar loop.
  23. There are some songs I know I've heard again from re-watching contests yet don't remember from looking at the titles! Step forward Turkey 2000, Switzerland 2009 and Lithuania 2002 though I remember I wasn't keen on that one. I found the Maltese entry 2017 really quite dull, though there was certainly worse that year. DQ seemed incredibly cliched and when compared with Conchita was nothing, however there were some odd qualifiers over non qualifiers in 2007 which was such a weak year. I think that era suffered from having too many auto-qualifiers. Ukraine 2003 still makes me laugh, so cliched, and dated, but I quite enjoyed it at the time IIRC  The best from this set for me is Andorra 2009. They deserved the final with the majority of their entries, including this one. I guess you don't agree though :P
  24. Eamonem and Machine Gun Frankee
  25. This has to be one of the most catastrophically hilarious (for all the wrong reasons) singles that I've heard in a long time... we need something like this in the charts, like the old days. I mean, it's terrible, but it's novelty right? It's like she's trying to channel her inner Meat Loaf or something. SO tacky.
