  1. Big name in K-pop
  2. Working backwards from the XF finale set for the first weekend of December and only 6 weeks of live shows this year, the first live shows should be the last weekend in October.
  3. That's the specific reason for the new format of a results show and elimination on both Saturday and Sunday once the live shows begin. Simon has said explicitly that the XF contestants aren't entertaining enough on their own and they need to bring in established talent to goose the ratings.
  4. And yet completely expected.
  5. Literally every single radio station in the US, regardless of genre, played the song today. You can't buy promo like that.
  6. Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is #2 on the album chart. Now that's commitment to the eclipse theme!
  7. CNCO aren't just "from Syco". They too are a manufactured group formed on a Simon Cowell produced music reality show. The show was "La Banda" and it was on Univision, a US based Spanish language channel.
  8. Probably one of two ways: Gifting the song on iTunes or handing out pre-paid vouchers. I'm not sure what the rules are about when gifted songs are counted, at purchase or redemption. Vouchers obviously would count at redemption.
  9. Love this song!!
  10. With the decreasing number of sales needed to chart on iTunes, I'm surprised more artists don't try this strategy. It takes fewer than 300 daily DLs to be in the T50 of the U.K. iTunes chart. Buying that amount every day for a week (especially if you put your song on discount), isn't that expensive a proposition if you are wealthy.
  11. I apologize if this has been asked, but do the 3 charting songs have to be from a single album, specifically the artist's current release? I'm thinking of a situation where an artist passes away and many old singles re-chart, from various album releases. Or an artist could release 2 5-6 song EPs simultaneously (or within a week or two of each other) to skirt the rule.
  12. The prize is that you are signed to SYCO (or an affiliated label). But as with all label deals, it's a fairly one-sided contract. Almost all the obligations are on the artist side. Every winner, except the one that came after Louisa, has gotten an album release so far. One has to assume that was to make a quick buck, not because SYCO was required to.

You can put this off as a marketing gimmick, however even with 100k fewer sales, Katy would get the #1 in the US. Also, that doesn't explain an overall divergence in the album chart. Look at the #1 BB200 albums working backwards from this coming week: Katy Perry, Halsey, Bryson Tiller, Linkin Park, Harry Styles, Logic, Kendrick Lamar(2x), The Chainsmokers, Drake (3x), Ed Sheeran (2x), Future, Future

It's a replay of Gaga. Tepid sales in the UK, strong enough sales in the US to double the #2 album's sales.
  15. I don't think he knew what to do with them. They are more indie, folkie than straight up pop. Simon's playbook is limited.
  16. 5H is a Syco act in name only. All their success is due to the patience and effort of LA Reid at Epic. Now that he is gone from the company it remains to be seen if they remain a priority.
  17. The full concert is on YouTube. No ad breaks, no commentary.
  18. Usher performed last Tuesday on the Voice US finale and sang REM's Everybody Hurts in a duet with the not-yet-revealed winner. They both said it was a tribute to Manchester. https://youtu.be/JszPlO41_lo
  19. Is this a special remix/feature for the U.K.market only? The version charting in the US doesn't include Louisa.
  20. Bruno is now #1 on Pop AirPlay and will get the published #1 Sunday.

Can someone tell me if Voice winner Mo's EP is eligible for the Albums chart? It has 5 tracks, but 2 of them are different versions of the same song. Also, the EP is priced at £2.49
  22. It moved his EP, didn't it? It's #5 on the ITunes album chart. Much better bargain too.
  23. It says "The Voice" right in the song title. If you don't bother to read the name of the song or listen to the preview, you're pretty oblivious.
  24. That's almost certainly why they decided against calling it a "winner's single". They know it will be called a flop due to the timing and lack of streams. So why set their winner up for failure? They should have made ALL the songs from the live finals available to DL. It would have primed the Voice viewers to buy.

In general, people buy songs because they like the particular song, but they buy albums because they like the artist.
