  1. Well done Jade on today's 39 Round 1: 30 Love Train, the year Round 2: 30 The year, Sleeping With The Light On 3 in 10: 2 You Make Me Feel Brand New, Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)
  2. 33. Toploader - Dancing In The Moonlight 1023pts Writer - Sherman Kelly Top scores - Cymro87 49, Maestro 46, Jason 44 Low scores - rio309 1, Grandwicky 1, Liamski689 2 Average score - 23.8 Dancing In The Moonlight was first recorded by its writer's band, Boffalongo, in 1970. The first version to be a hit was by King Harvest two years later, reaching number 13 in the US. The Eastbourne band Toploader's cover got to number 19 in March 2000 before peaking at number 7 as a re-issue in February 2001.
  3. 34. Dr. Dre featuring Eminem - Forgot About Dre 1009pts Writers - Andre Young, Marshall Mathers, Melvin Bradford Top scores - Mack 46, gsaman449 43, ChrisJK 41, Uls2000 41 Low scores - King Rollo 1, Campbell 1, Mark223jy 3 Average score - 23.5 This collaboration was a fifth top 10 hit for Dr. Dre and a third for Eminem. Sampling 'The Climb' by No Doubt, it won a Grammy award for best rap performance by a duo or group.
  4. 35. Pet Shop Boys - Domino Dancing 994pts Writers - Chris Lowe, Neil Tennant Top scores - AH Gold 50, Mango 49, JackJones 49 Low scores - CowTzy 1, chrissmith276 3, Viper* 3 Average score - 23.1 From 1988, Domino Dancing was the lead single from the Pet Shop Boys' third album 'Introspective', giving them their eighth top 10 single. It was recorded in Miami with the video filmed in Puerto Rico.
  5. 25th - 31st March 1965 22. Catch The Wind - Donovan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doJbS4tWYsM Donovan's debut single. I wrongly listened to the album version first. It turns out the single has strings and an echo effect while the later album version which now has about six times more Spotify streams has just guitar and harmonica. I think I prefer the single, a beautiful sound to it. It's interesting that Donovan and Bob Dylan are making their first appearance in the same week. 31. I'll Be There - Gerry and The Pacemakers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kwYlKiB6js A cover of a Bobby Darin song from 1960. I always enjoy Gerry's vocals and this one has some lush orchestration. 32. Here Comes The Night - Them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpKpAierYus Another good song by Them which will go all the way to number 2. The tempo changes and that guitar riff make this stand out. We sadly won't hear from them again, Van Morrison will soon leave to embark on his solo career. 37. Little Things - Dave Berry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5Md137mMFQ A perky pop song with subtle changes throughout to keep it interesting. Bobby Goldsboro recorded the original last year. 39. The Birds And The Bees - Jewel Akens https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvFv0VMXzq0 The only hit for an American singer I have not heard of. The drummer coming to a full stop several times is what I'll remember most about it. 40. Without You - Matt Monro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJlfVcgBQvo A fairly standard Matt Monro ballad but, as always, he puts in a barnstorming vocal which makes it a worthwhile listen. Record of the week : 36. The Times They Are A-Changin' - Bob Dylan I've never been a big fan of Bob Dylan's drawling vocal style but the lyrics on this song make it a seminal piece of work which sums up what was going on in America at the time. The many cover versions over the years show they continued to be relevant. The single will peak at number 9.
  6. Round 1: 30 Adele's album 30, thought it was 31, and Nick Lowe, said Dave Edmunds like the contestant Round 2: 36 Hand 3 in 10: 1 Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me) I knew there was one about Judy but couldn't think of the full title and something to do with ice cream (it was Mr Soft)

Emma into the quarter-finals now, probably playing her best tennis since the US Open win. It certainly helped that her match yesterday was shorter than Anisimova's and finished earlier.
  8. 36. Klaxons - Golden Skans 992pts Writers - James Righton, Jamie Reynolds, Simon Taylor-Davis Top scores - Brer 48, Jade 44, Dante77 42 Low scores - Maestro 3, Leonardo 4, rio309 4 Average score - 23.1 From 2007, Golden Skans was the only top 10 hit for Klaxons. The single came in at number 16 based on downloads only with the CD being available two weeks later so might have charted higher if they had been released at the same time. The video was an homage to the one for 'Can You Feel It' by The Jacksons.
  9. New site doesn't seem to let me put two embeds in the same post. Here's the other A side:
  10. 37. Sugababes - Stronger / Angels With Dirty Faces 973pts Writers (Stronger) - Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan, Heidi Range, Jony Rockstar, Marius de Vries, Felix Howard Writers (Angels With Dirty Faces) - Brian Higgins, Bob Bradley, Tim Powell, Matthew Del Gray, Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena, Heidi Range Top scores - vibe 50, AaronTM 49, vancey 49 Low scores - AH Gold 2, jimwatts 2, CowTzy 3, DarrenJ77 3 Average score - 22.6 This double A side single was the third release from the Sugababes' second album, following two successive number 1 hits. One 50 point score means it wins a tie-break over One (Your Name).
  11. 38. Swedish House Mafia featuring Pharrell - One (Your Name) 973pts Writers - Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello, Pharrell Williams Top scores - danG 49, Jason 48, Mark223jy 46 Low scores - Severin 1, marcinjaro 4, Mango 5, Leonardo 5, gasman449 5, Jester 5, Dante77 5, jimwatts 5 Average score - 22.6 One started as an instrumental with Pharrell's vocal added to this version which gave the Swedish House Mafia their first top 40 hit in 2010.
  12. 39. Wild Cherry - Play That Funky Music 949pts Writer - Rob Parissi Top scores - Liamski689 48, Leonardo 43, Dante77 43 Low scores - Jade 2, GreyAsh 2, Brer 3, danG 3 Average score - 22.1 This was the only UK hit single for the group from Ohio, also reaching the top of the Billboard chart in 1976. The lyrics were about their attempts to transition from hard rock to the funk/disco sound that was becoming more popular. They split up in 1979.
  13. 40. The Cure - The Love Cats 947pts Writer - Robert Smith Top scores - Maestro 45, Julian_ 44, dandy* 43, Jaz13music 43, marcinjaro 43 Low scores - Mango 1, Lee_J11 2, Alex! 3, Liamski689 3 Average score - 22 This was the song that finished one point above 'Animal Nitrate' to qualify from the second semi-final in 25th place. It was the first of four top 10 hits for The Cure. I think I've mentioned before in these polls that they peaked at 5, 6, 7 and 8 (not in that order) but it's worth mentioning again.
  14. 41. Madonna - Get Together 916pts Writers - Madonna, Anders Bagge, Peer Astrom, Stuart Price Top scores - marcinjaro 50, Dante77 50, detonate 50 Low scores - jimwatts 1, gasman449 2, Mack 2, Cymro87 2, Uls2000 2 Average score - 21.3 Get Together was the third single to come from Madonna's 2005 album 'Confessions On A Dance Floor'. 'Jump' was originally scheduled to be the third release but the record company switched to this song as it was already being downloaded as an album track twice as much as 'Jump'.
  15. I'll turn up for the bonus songs this week. Can I request two RIPs? 1. Neil Lockwood from ELO Part 2, he was one of the new members who had not been in ELO. 'Honest Men' was their only top 75 hit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOMiufjH43I 2. For George Foreman, can we have 'In Zaire' by Johnny Wakelin, a top 5 single about his 'Rumble In The Jungle' fight with Muhammad Ali. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUpGRXT18R8
  16. 42. Al Green - Let's Stay Together 891pts Writers - Al Green, Willie Mitchell, Al Jackson Jr. Top scores - Leonardo 49, Liamski689 49, Dante77 46 Low scores - ChrisJK 2, CowTzy 2, Chez Wombat 2 Average score: 20.7 From 1971, this was the second of two top 10 hits for the singer from Arkansas. It was also a US number 1 single. Tina Turner's 1983 cover version went one place higher, reaching number 6.
  17. 43. Oasis - Cigarettes And Alcohol 885pts Writer - Noel Gallagher Top scores - Jaz13music 47, Grandwicky 47, Jester 47, Severin 47, Uls2000 47 Low scores - AaronTM 1, Alex! 1, vancey 1, detonate 1, JackJones 1, Liamski689 1 Average score - 20.6 You would have been wrong if you thought LeAnn Rimes' total of five 1 point scores could not be beaten. Six people put this song at the bottom of their vote. It was the fourth single to be taken from Oasis' debut album 'Definitely Maybe'. With the group's early singles continuing to sell in small amounts over the next few years, it ended up with a total of 79 weeks in the top 100 with only four of those weeks within the top 40.
  18. 44. Editors - Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors 884pts Writers - Tom Smith, Chris Urbanowicz, Russell Leetch, Ed Lay Top scores - Chez Wombat 49, danae 48, Viper* 43 Low scores - Maestro 1, Mango 2, AaronTM 2 Average score - 20.5 From 2007, this was the lead single from the Birmingham group's second album 'The End Has A Start'. It was their second and final top 10 hit. They have been more consistent on the album chart with all seven of their studio LPs reaching the top ten.

Great to see Emma Radacanu battling back from 1-3 down in the final set to beat a top 10 player in Miami today. That should give her a lot of confidence.
  21. 45. The Ones - Flawless 873pts Writers - The Ones Top scores - vancey 50, Mark223jy 49, AH Gold 44 Low scores - DarrenJ77 2, ...ready for it 2, Severin 2, Maestro 2, NickF1 2 Average score - 20.3 Two years after it was first released, this was the only top 40 hit for the American trio. It samples one of our semi-finalists, 'Wordy Rappinghood', as well as 'Keep On Dancin' by Gary's Gang. Further sampling occurred in 2004 on George Michael's 'Flawless (Go To The City)' which peaked one place lower at number 8.
  22. 46. LeAnn Rimes - How Do I Live 870pts Writer - Diane Warren Top scores - Alex! 48, DarrenJ77 47, vibe 46 Low scores - Jade 1, Julian_ 1, danae 1, Jason 1, marcinjaro 1 Average score - 20.2 Debuting at number 7, How Do I Live dropped down the chart before returning to that peak position seven weeks later. It ended up as the sixth best selling single of 1998. Despite only reaching number 2 in the US, its longevity there led to it being announced by Billboard as the number 1 song of the 1990s. LeAnn Rimes was only 14 years old when she recorded it.
  23. 47. Grandmaster and Melle Mel - White Lines (Don't Don't Do It) 856pts Writers - Melvin Glover, Sylvia Robinson Top scores - Severin 49, Jade 48, King Rollo 47 Low scores - chrissmith276 1, Lee_J11 1, Alex! 2, Viper* 2, JackJones 2 Average score: 19.9 Although credited to Grandmaster and Melle Mel, this single did not feature Grandmaster Flash. It spent 26 weeks between number 100 and number 41 before finally reaching the top 40, eventually selling more copies than some of the number 1 singles of 1984. The bassline was taken from 'Cavern' by the Sugar Hill house band which led to the writers of that song, from the New York band Liquid Liquid, taking legal action. One score of 49 means that White Lines wins a tie-break over Strange & Beautiful.
  24. Round 1: 33 Drive-In Saturday Round 2: 30 Don't Wanna Lose You, East 17 I knew the artists for those 6 point questions but not the song title 3 in 10: 3 Alright, Moving, Richard III
  25. 48. Aqualung - Strange & Beautiful (I'll Put A Spell On You) 856pts Writers - Matt Hales, Kim Oliver Top scores - AH Gold 48, Chez Wombat 46, Jason 43, ElectroBoy 43 Low scores - vibe 1, Nick F1 1, Jaz13music 2 Average score - 19.9 Keeping up the TV ad theme, this song took off after being used in a Volkswagen Beetle commercial in 2002. Aqualung is the solo artist Matt Hales who wrote the song with his wife, Kim Oliver, who is best known for her role in the ITV drama 'Bad Girls'. It remains his only top 30 hit.
