  1. A subdued piece of music, I gave it a score of 3.5.
  2. Well done John on today's 39. I always think of Alternate Title when the Monkees come up as I remember that story on why it was called that. Round 1: 36 I said Sweet Candy Kisses instead of Sugar Candy Kisses, maybe he would have allowed it. Round 2: 36 The year 3 in 10: 0 I came up with Bigmouth Strikes Again and Shoplifters Of The World Unite which are both Smiths songs
  3. 27th October - 2nd November 1966 32. Semi-Detached Suburban Mr James - Manfred Mann https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZNCR1iu3yY This is more about the woman getting married to Mr James rather than Mr James himself. I liked the lyrics and the use of the mellotron which is still quite new at this point and this song is acknowledged as being the first pop hit to use it. It will climb all the way up to number 2. 34. Wrapping Paper - Cream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMk744s-qzU The first single by this supergroup, I was expecting something cool and innovative but it's a slow paced jazzy sort of song, there will be better to come from them, I'm sure. 36. Help Me Girl - Eric Burdon and The Animals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhKUfKLgDEg The first single by the new line-up of this group has another commanding vocal from Eric backed by the organ, drums, saxophone and some brass instruments. 37. Ride On Baby - Chris Farlowe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnqKCLL1SuQ Like his number 1, this is a Jagger/Richards composition and has a similar sound to it but the lack of a good chorus will lead to it only peaking at number 31. Record of the week : 38. A Love Like Yours - Ike and Tina Turner I was torn between Manfred Mann and The Animals until this came along as the last one I listened to and beat them both. Ike and Tina Turner only had three top 40 hits and this is much less well known than the other two and I don't think I've heard it before. It's a cover of a 1963 song by Martha and the Vandellas, written by Holland-Dozier-Holland. I like Tina's vocal, especially during the quiet parts before those cymbals come crashing in, one of the best I've heard from her. The Phil Spector wall of sound is here in all its glory although, even in this remastered version, not quite as clear and spread out as I'd like it to be. The single will peak at number 16.
  4. I like Thursday and the rest of that album, I gave it a score of 7. I think it's the only Pet Shop Boys song with three lead vocalists on it.
  5. I'm honoured to be joint second in the betting, thank you.
  6. As well as that, isn't it just a sample or did she re-record her vocal for the song?
  7. Round 1: 33 Middle Of The Road Round 2: 33 Brother Beyond, the year Tie-break: 2 out of 2 3 in 10: 3 Daydream Believer, I'm A Believer, Alternate Title
  8. I only gave it a score of 4.5, it's just an OK song.
  9. Nik Kershaw - Don Quixote Marillion - Lavender Midge Ure - If I Was Red Box - Lean On Me (Ah-Li-Ayo) Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill Tie-break: Trans-X - Living On Video
  10. That was the lowest score I gave out. I've never watched the TV programme so just find the song to be annoying.
  11. I only gave Together a 3, one of my lowest scores.
  12. I think there will be a theme. However, for options A and C, be warned that... Or does that refer to one of the rounds in the live shows?
  13. Round 1: 36 At Midnight Round 2: 27 The Three Degrees, Let Loose, Hey Ya 3 in 10: 3 So Lonely, Invisible Sun, King Of Pain
  14. Ipswich Town 1-1 Nottingham Forest Aston Villa 1-2 Manchester City Arsenal 2-0 Everton Coventry City 1-1 Fulham Chelsea 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur Crystal Palace 2-2 Newcastle United Hull City 0-1 Brentford Liverpool 2-2 Brighton & Hove Albion Manchester United 1-1 AFC Bournemouth Sunderland 1-1 Leeds United
  15. I did consider ABC as my act so it's good to see they are one of the Golden Wagners. I'm voting for them.
  16. I'm surprised that finished bottom. I gave it a score of 6.5. I always thought it was written specifically for the Olympic Games and was one of the official songs, like the Muse one. It looks like the Olympics just adopted it as it was out at the same time. I do remember it being played before the two events I attended, womens' handball and womens' volleyball. Those were the only two sports that I managed to get a ticket for.
  17. Round 1: 33 Rolling In The Deep Round 2: 33 Aha 3 in 10: 2 Cornflake Girl, Professional Widow

An extraordinary match in Rawalpindi, England captain Harry Brook hits the fastest double century in a One Day International, scoring 202 from 116 balls, beating a record that was set just a few weeks ago by Shubman Gill for India. He still ends up on the losing side with Sri Lanka chasing down a target of 430 with one ball left. It's the second highest successful run chase in an ODI.
  19. You're not the only one who does it that way. I also PM myself with the scoreboards when I'm hosting a contest.
  20. Well done Geraint for today's 39. Round 1: 36 Simply Red Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 3 Run To You, Somebody, (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
  21. We all got 39 on round 2 today, well done. Round 1: 30 U2, Licenced To Kill, Katie Melua Round 2: 39 💥 Tie-break : 6 out of 8 3 in 10: 3 We Are Family, Frankie, He's The Greatest Dancer
  22. 20th - 26th October 1966 29. If I Were A Carpenter - Bobby Darin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST00QH8vOg0 Bobby's first top 40 hit since 1963 but it will also be his last one. Written by Tim Hardin, whose own version is yet to be released, it's a delicate ballad with acoustic guitars and a flute solo. Very good. 38. A Fool Am I (Dimmelo Parlame) - Cilla Black https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f63zYsPIb54 An Italian song translated into English for Cilla to cover and there is an operatic style to it with quiet verses and a big chorus with her vocal and the orchestra at full pelt. Record of the week : 39. I Love My Dog - Cat Stevens It was close between 'If I Were A Carpenter' and this one but I've chosen Cat Stevens' debut hit. I like the use of lots of different musical instruments throughout the song. The lyrics were inspired by his family's dog, Pepe. The single will peak at number 28 for two weeks.
  23. I'll be there at 8pm. I'm watching Eastenders first.
  24. 1st Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again (Rolloland's 50th anniversary BJSC entry) 2nd New Order - Regret (the best song from the Republic album) 3rd Texas - Summer Son 4th Bananarama - I Want You Back 5th Fountaines D.C. - Favourite 6th Sade - Kiss Of Life
