A shame that Travelers just missed out there but congratulations to Dandy on winning with a great song from the Human League. Thanks to Chez for a fantastic job hosting this contest and doing a commentary for each entry with all the interesting facts. A poor result for my own entry this time, I'll try to do better in three months time.

Thanks to Suedehead and Severin for both giving 8 points to my song. It doesn't look like the squirrel picture on the opening post was a clue to Dear God being the winning song but it's still doing quite well.

For 1992, I didn't what to pick anything that everyone would have immediately guessed was my entry so I picked something a bit different and would at least sound like it was from the early 90s. This hasn't gone too well for me so far but I see while I'm typing this that the song gets 12 points from Nine & 3/4 so thanks for that top score. I would have been more at home with the 70s or 80s.

That was a great discovery from 1964.

I think, for marketing purposes, record companies like singers with short names so anyone with a double-barrelled surname will have it shortened or be given a new name.

Sophie B Hawkins represented Rolloland in 2018 in the Pride spin-off with another track from the 'Whaler' album, 'Only Love (The Ballad Of Sleeping Beauty)'. I like that album a lot, it has the same producer as Propaganda's 'A Secret Wish' album. You could always enter 'Don't Don't Tell Me No', another great pop song, if 'Right Beside You' gets vetoed.

The vocals here are quite monotone and the best parts come from the backing band. I'm more familiar with David Bowie's cover from the 70s, the original version was by The McCoys. 36. Can't Live With You (Can't Live Without You) - The Mindbenders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93Todn07sHc After their last single reached number 2, this one will only get to number 28 which is a shame as there's a lot to like about it. The song wouldn't sound out of place on Pet Sounds if the Beach Boys were singing it. I like the guitar parts in particular. 37. Rhapsody In The Rain - Lou Christie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HxkaLYEYZU Not half as good as 'Lightnin' Strikes' and he's using the weather for the second time as a metaphor to describe a love affair. Record of the week : 34. California Dreamin' - The Mamas And The Papas As easy decision this week as a classic enters the top 40. The male and female harmonies complement each other so effectively and the flute solo in the middle is wonderful. It's a surprise to see this will only get to number 23, I know the lyrics are based on American life but it still should have made the top 10. It will finally do that in 1997 after being used in a commercial for Carling.
