  1. This is the updated league table after 8 contests. Addy's 7 point lead is now cut down to just 1 point after dandy* finished 3rd in this contest. There is now an even bigger gap from 2nd to 3rd place. 10 points for Severin's win move him up from 19th to 12th place. 1. 50 Addy! 2. 49 dandy* 3. 34 jimwatts 3. 34 AH Gold 5. 30 Dobbo 6. 24 King Rollo 7. 23 Jade 8. 22 Bjork 9. 21 Jester 10. 18 Chez Wombat 11. 17 Popchartfreak 12. 16 Severin 13. 15 awardinary 13. 15 JulianT 15. 14 danG 16. 10 Ansel 16. 10 Brer 18. 9 fiesta 19. 7 lewistgreen 20. 6 ClaudiaKinkleman 20. 6 *Ben* 22. 4 Roba 23. 3 !!! 24. 2 gooddelta 25. 1 seven.

  3. Well done, Severin. I think that's your second song contest win. I liked the Curve song and gave it five points. Thanks Addy for a great hosting job again. 22nd place is a bit disappointing for Prefab Sprout. Thanks to all those who gave them some points, especially Julian for the 12 right at the end.
  4. I was sure No.3 would be Brer but he has given it 12 points. My song by Prefab Sprout is struggling to make an impression.
  5. There are plenty of songs still in with a chance of winning then.
  6. Thanks Bjork for my first points of the night.
  7. I think I'll finish with a mid-table position.
  8. I forgot all about this. Could the thread not have been pushed back to the top a day before the deadline? I've now voted for Keeley Hodgkinson, Jude Bellingham and Tom Pidcock.
  9. The albums that I have been listening to this year, in the order of which they were released: Steve Hackett - The Circus And The Nightwhale Big Big Train - The Likes Of Us Elbow - Audio Vertigo Pet Shop Boys - Nonetheless Moby - Always Centered At Night Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks - True Nero - Into The Unknown David Gilmour - Luck And Strange Steve Howe - Guitarscape Weather Systems - Ocean Without A Shore Propaganda - Propaganda Frost* - Life In The Wires Tears For Fears - Songs For A Nervous Planet Underworld - Strawberry Hotel
  10. Hi Darren, there are two number 7s called Rain. Are you voting for Status Quo or Madonna?. Your vote is quite eclectic so I don't think I can assume it's Madonna. Also, is Stoned Love meant to be Stoned In Love by Chicane?
  11. 31st December 1964 - 6th January 1965 39. Elisabeth Serenade - The Gunter Kallmann Choir A charming piece of music from the German choir with some bell ringing thrown in. I've heard it before but not since the 1970s so it's a nice memory jog. 40. Choc Ice - The Long And The Short The second and last hit for this band is all about the desserts they like to eat. I suppose it makes a change from the usual love song lyrics. Record of the week : 35. Et Meme - Francoise Hardy The second top 40 hit for the French singer gets my vote this week. The production is influenced by Phil Spector with the piano part very similar to Da Doo Ron Ron. It will drop out of the top 40 next week but then return to reach a peak position of number 31. oBpzllq4SCk
  12. Thanks, I've added the playlist to the opening post.

  14. The hall of fame so far: Ultimate Number 1 : Madonna - Like A Prayer Ultimate Number 2 : A-ha - Take On Me Ultimate Number 3 : The Killers - Somebody Told Me Ultimate Number 4 : Radiohead - No Surprises Ultimate Number 5 : Green Day – Boulevard Of Broken Dreams Ultimate Number 6 : Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence The time has now come to decide what the forum's favourite single that peaked at number 7 is. Once again, in the first round, you vote for your top 30 number 7 singles. Please put them in order from 30 points for your favourite down to 1 point for your least favourite. The 100 singles with the most points will go through to two semi-finals of 50 songs each and the top 25 from each semi will go through to a final of 50 songs. Each voter's favourite number 7 from their first round vote will be given a wild card into the semi-finals even if it didn't receive enough points from other people to qualify so there could be more than 50 songs in each semi-final. Here is a link to the list of number 7 singles. There are two weeks for you to vote so plenty of time to look through this list to make sure you don't forget any songs that don't immediately spring to mind. Bear in mind some of the singles on the list might have reached a higher peak position in separate chart runs so they would be ineligible. I've spotted Layla, Sealed With A Kiss and Leader Of The Pack on there, there may be more. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=197175 Remember, your favourite song should be at the top of your list with your least favourite at the bottom. So if anyone starts their list with 1, I will assume that means 1st place, not 1 point. 18. Thanks for running this, Severin. I found out a few things I didn't know about Prince from your commentary. That's quite a large winning margin for When Doves Cry, more than I expected.

I am honoured to have the final song on the last disc. It couldn't really have gone anywhere else. I've said before it should be the unofficial Buzzjack anthem. Thanks Colm, gooddelta and Wardy for putting this together.
  20. How about I Can't Stop Loving You (Though I Try) by Leo Sayer for Richard Perry which got to number 6? I know the song from Phil Collins' cover version.

  23. 24th - 30th December 1964 38. For Mama - Matt Monro A rather sad ballad about the death of a parent and carrying out her wishes. As always, he sings it well with strings and church bells in the background. Record of the week : 37. Ringo - Lorne Greene As you might expect, it's a quiet week with just two new entries. I'm choosing this tale of an outlaw called Ringo in the Wild West whose life is saved by a man who later becomes a sheriff and encounters him again. The spoken word song will be the only be the only hit for the Canadian actor, reaching number 22 and going all the way to the top of the Billboard chart. Q-rsTAD0B78
