  1. Good to see my entry is still in contention and my 12 point song is just behind it.
  2. Thanks to all who have voted for Strings Of Life so far, especially Jim for the 12 and gooddelta for the 10. I didn't know about the 2000s hit that sampled it, the same as when I entered Ever So Lonely by Monsoon to the retro contest.
  3. I should be able to make it for that, I do like a lot of the hit singles by the artists entered.
  4. The mods are just looking at the list of entries now. If you send it now, I'm sure Brer can add it on when he comes online.
  5. We all got 39 on Round 1 today then. Round 1: 39 💥 Round 2: 36 Escape 3 in 10: 1 Reach Out I'll Be There

Blige - F For You 21st Fifth Harmony - Sledgehammer
  7. Round 1: 36 Right Places Round 2: 39 💥 3 in 10: 2 Dr Beat, Anything For You
  8. Yes John, Simon Smith And His Amazing Dancing Bear was still being played well into the 1970s so I knew it. Round 1: 33 Bread, Fall In Love Round 2: 33 Lou Reed, the year 3 in 10: 1 Survivor
  9. Thanks. Well done John on the double 39. Round 1: 33 Respectable (should have known that but only came up with 'Respect'), Sylvia (would have probably remembered but he was too quick with the answer) Round 2: 36 Back Home Again 3 in 10: Puppy Love, Young Love, The Twelfth Of Never We all picked the same three songs.
  10. The songs by the eliminated artists all had some merit. None of them were in my bottom 2 for each category.
  11. 27th May - 2nd June 1965 24. Crying In The Chapel - Elvis Presley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkRLYcLseUg Elvis' first number 1 single for two years was recorded in 1960 and kept on a shelf for five years as he wasn't happy with it but it now becomes a big hit for him. There's just a piano and a quiet guitar on this cover of a song from 1953 so his vocal stands out along with the backing singers' contribution but overall, only average. 33. Come Home - The Dave Clark Five https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GPi5wHb2Gs There's quite a slow pace to this one with a hissing sound to the main beat of the song. It's not one I need to listen to again. 37. Set Me Free - The Kinks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXaVweUfvow The Kinks' fifth single will return them to the top 10 after the last one didn't do too well. It's reasonable but we're still in that part of their history between the impactful first few hits and the classics that are yet to come. 39. This Little Bird - The Nashville Teens https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER8p6GBUYFw Another version of this follows the one by Marianne Faithfull we had a few weeks ago. It's not quite as good but I did like the piano and strings, it wouldn't sound out of place in a Wild West movie. This will be the group's last top 40 hit, they are still going, with only one survivor from this line-up. 40. If I Ruled The World - Tony Bennett https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAv4JAfFauc Tony's version of a song from the 1963 musical 'Pickwick'. It's not my cup of tea but he does a good job with it. Record of the week : 35. Anyway Anyhow Anywhere - The Who I'm choosing The Who's second hit for its raw energy and an early use of guitar feedback. The drums and piano also play a big role here and the backing vocals are set high compared to Roger Daltrey's lower range lead vocal. The single will reach a peak of number 10.

That's a big upset, Cameron Norrie beating Medvedev in the first round. It looked unlikely when he lost the third and fourth sets and went a break down in the final set but he kept going.
  13. Round 1: 39 💥 Round 2: 24 Quit Playing Games, Stealer's Wheel, the year, Alessi Brothers Tie-break : 10 out of 10 3 in 10: 3 Elected, Poison, School's Out
  14. Congratulations Rooney on the title and thanks to Houdini for running this throughout the season. I'm happy with 3rd place considering I didn't win a single week, apart from that week six of us had the top score.
  15. This is the top 10 I posted on this thread eight years ago. It's interesting that Tempted is Squeeze's most streamed song, well ahead of their two number 2 hit singles.

Sikandar Raza was playing in that test match for Zimbabwe yesterday. He flew straight out to Lahore and has just hit the winning runs in the Pakistan Super League final, quite extraordinary. Obviously, if the test had gone to a fourth day, it would not have been possible.
  17. I wonder where the tenth song will be needed. You would need 7 songs to win your category and then two more for when the three winners come together. Maybe the final will have two songs from each act?
  18. AFC Bournemouth 2-1 Leicester City Fulham 1-2 Manchester City Ipswich Town 2-2 West Ham United Liverpool 2-1 Crystal Palace Manchester United 0-2 Aston Villa Newcastle United 3-0 Everton Nottingham Forest 0-1 Chelsea Southampton 0-2 Arsenal Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Brighton & Hove Albion Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-1 Brentford
  19. I have thought of a few songs and artists which fit this theme but haven't decided which one to send yet.
