16 points Bryan Adams - Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven Rick Astley - Take Me To Your Heart Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney - The Girl Is Mine Luude and Mattafix - Big City Life Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven came out about four months after Bryan Adams' sixteen week stay at number 1 with (Everything I Do) I Do It For You. Michael Jackson makes his daily appearance this time with the first single to be taken from his huge selling album Thriller. So far he has scored 4, 8, 12 and 16 points so very neatly ordered. Take Me To Your Heart was the sixth of eight consecutive top 10 hits for Rick Astley.

15 points Azzido Da Bass - Dooms Night (Remix) Eminem - Fall Pebbles - Girlfriend The Pretenders - Talk Of The Town We've now lost both of the Pretenders number 8s with 1980's Talk Of The Town dropping out. From 1988, Girlfriend was the only top 40 hit for Pebbles who has been married five times and is now known as Sister Perri. Dooms Night only got to number 46 on its first release but a remix by Timo Maas pushed it up to number 8. Eminem falls at this hurdle but has a second song to come.

14 points The Chemical Brothers - It Began In Afrika Cher - The Music's No Good Without You Craig David - What's Your Flava? Dannii Minogue - Jump To The Beat R.E.M. - Bad Day Shania Twain - Ka-Ching! Toploader - Achilles Heel This was the lead single from the Chemical Brothers' fourth album 'Come With Us'. Another song from the same album is still to come. Dannii Minogue's 1991 cover of the Stacy Lattisaw song Jump To the Beat is the odd one out here as the other six songs are all from 1999-2003. Craig David loses the second of his two songs.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
Sorry, I must have missed that. Maybe you giving 28 points to her sister Cardi B made me not see her and move straight to the 26 points. The 11 points were from The Snake so I have added the 27 points to her score.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
12 points Backstreet Boys - Incomplete The Course - Ain't Nobody Ariana Grande - Santa Baby Jon and Vangelis - I Hear You Now The Jackson Five - ABC The Lightning Seeds - You Showed Me New Kids On The Block - Let's Try Again / Didn't I Blow Your Mind Richard X featuring Kelis - Finest Dreams Donna Summer, who appeared on the 11 point list, had another hit with a Jon & Vangelis song called 'State Of Independence' and they are just ahead of her on 12 points with this one from 1980. Backstreet Boys have five singles which peaked at number 8 and Incomplete is the first of the three that received votes. The original Ain't Nobody is still to come but for the moment, we have a cover by The Course. Ariana Grande makes her second appearance of the day, she still has one song left. You Showed Me is the only top 10 hit by the Lightning Seeds that isn't a version of Three Lions.

10 points Craig David - Rendezvous Debbie Harry - French Kissin' In The USA Elton John - Blue Eyes The Saturdays - Notorious Status Quo - Ice In The Sun 2 Unlimited - Faces The Veronicas - You Ruin Me Zedd and Alessia Cara - Stay From 1986, this was the only solo top 10 hit for Debbie Harry. Ice In The Sun was an early song by Status Quo, their second hit single in 1968. Blue Eyes gave Elton John a revival in 1982 after his previous five singles had peaked from 33 to 44. His last top 10 hit had been 'Song For Guy' in 1978. The Veronicas still have one song to come.

9 points Aitch featuring ZieZie - Buss Down P. Diddy featuring Christina Aguilera - Tell Me Ariana Grande - Imagine Brian Hyland - Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini Shaznay Lewis - Never Felt Like This Before Quartz introducing Dina Carroll - It's Too Late Viola Wills - Gonna Get Along Without You Now This disco song was the only top 30 hit for Viola Wills. The original version by Teresa Brewer came out way back in April 1952, before the UK chart had started, so we will never know if it would have been a hit. There's an even bigger gap between the two versions of Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini with the second one going all the way to number 1. Brian Hyland later reached the top 10 in two different decades with 'Sealed With A Kiss'.

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - 1st Round Results
7 points ATB x Topic x A7S - Your Love (9PM) Cilla Black - Step Inside Love The Chordettes - Born To Be With You Dan Hartman - Instant Replay King - Alone Without You Mike Mago and Dragonette - Outlines Daniel Merriweather featuring Wale - Change (Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe scored 7 points but has been disqualified as the re-issue reached number 2) This disco floor filler from 1978 was one of three top 20 hits for Dan Hartman. 'I Can Dream About You' from 1985 has a very different sound and is also worth a listen. Born To Be With You by The Chordettes from 1956 could possibly be the earliest song to receive a vote. Step Inside Love was written by Paul McCartney to be the theme for Cilla Black's TV series. Alone Without You was the third of five top 40 hits for King with all of them in the space of about one year.

5 points Kele Le Roc - Little Bit Of Lovin' The Pretenders - Hymn To Her The Stranglers - Peaches / Go Buddy Go Sway - Level Up Dusty Springfield - Some Of Your Lovin' Wham! - Wham Rap! With its distinctive bassline, Peaches was the first top 40 hit for The Stranglers. They have another song to come and there is also another 'Peaches' left. From 1983, we have Wham!'s second hit single and from four years later, comes Hymn To Her by The Pretenders who also have a second song to come. There's a correction here as I got Kele Le Roc and Lonyo mixed up yesterday. Summer Of Love by Lonyo has been added to the 2 point list and Little Bit Of Lovin' scored 5 points.

King Rollo ranks the UK number 1 singles of 1983
Just going back to the video for 'Let's Dance', it's occurred to me since I posted about it that the nuclear bomb exploding is most likely a reference to the nuclear tests that took place in Australia in the 1950s. The Aboriginal people were forcibly removed from their own territory.

My record of the week 60 years ago
13th - 19th January 1966 28. You Were On My Mind - Crispian St. Peters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKOKZleJejw After a ponderous start, this builds up well with the tambourine, organ and saxophone. He's double tracked his vocal in two different keys. The cover of a song from 1961 will go all the way to number 2. 29. Take Me To Your Heart Again - Vince Hill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj7pT2LwDM4 The first top 40 hit for the easy listening singer who I remember from 70s TV programmes. It's a ballad that really belongs in the early 50s. 30. You Make It Move - Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRfVvgoElhM A promising chart debut for this group. A good rhythm is maintained throughout and the vocals are shared around. 36. Michelle - The Overlanders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-i7YW6JMrc A one hit wonder for this group covering the Beatles' song. They make a decent job of it but not half as good as the original. It will spend three weeks at number 1. 38. Hello, Dolly! - The Bachelors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4wqlCQZCYI The fourth version of the song to reach the top 40. It's done in the traditional music hall style starting with one of them imitating the ringing of a telephone. 39. Michelle - David and Jonathan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AIJX2semYI A rival version of the song which will only get to number 11. This has a simpler arrangement, not much to choose between them but I think I prefer the Overlanders. Record of the week : 34. A Groovy Kind Of Love - The Mindbenders The Mindbenders' first single without Wayne Fontana will be a huge success, reaching number 2 in March and repeating that peak position in the US. Eric Stewart sings the lead vocal so it's a pleasure to see him in this clip when I'm more used to seeing him in 10cc videos. The production is straightforward so I'm picking this as record of the week just because it's a great tune which has endured, with a future version by Phil Collins topping the chart. Carole Bayer Sager and Toni Wine based the melody on a classical piece by the composer Muzio Clementi.
